In the US, buttercream is regular icing. Royal icing is almost never used to frost or fill a cake. It could be used, but buttercream tastes better and is softer.

Is this the creamed icing or is it the pre-creaming consistency? I'm trying your buttercream on my next cake. It looks beautiful. One question, I live in a humid climate. Can I add meringue powder to you recipe to assist with crusting? Thank you!
I seen alot of cakes have loke pudding filling in the middle... do i just put the pudding on the cake separately then add icing around it or do i cut the pudding up and mix it with the icing then spread it on?

The creamed icing will be softer and work better, but either would work.

Hmm, never heard of using egg pudding for a filling, but either method should work.
Do you have a video on how to make the custard you filled that cake with?
It was a lemon pudding type filling.
