Just a couple of notes: My first time at Disneyland was 1980. But I didn't get to experience Walt Disney World for the first time until 2006. Also, I know that there is a "show" at the Golden Horseshoe, but really (at least in my opinion) it's a filler, and really not anything more than some of the street entertainment that is in the park, so I don't really count it. And even that's been fairly recent as it's often sat empty (and the Golden Diamond at WDW very rarely opens for anything, and even then it's been just a food service)
I saw captain EO back in the 80s when I was a kid and loved it. Saw it again as an adult in 2011. You're right. It has aged so badly that it's almost cringeworthy.
Been to Disney World about every 2 - 3 years since it opened, including being there opening day. I remember Mr. Toad, Snow White, Diamond Horseshoe Review and Disney World's versions of 20,000 Leagues and the Sky Ride. Also remember riding the Mark IV monorails, nothing like the slam-slam-slam every time you left the station. Of course at Epcot, the original Journey into Imagination, Horizons, World of Motion, the Life pavilion, and the pre-Ellen Universe of Energy.
My first visit was around 1980, and then again in 85 and 88. And I'm pretty sure there was another one in there as well. so yes, we did get the motorboats (we did everything on those visits) and the Country Bears have long been a family favorite. Well before Pooh showed up in their place (I still don't think it was a good replacement)
me too. We loved it, and almost always took a round on it. I've got a ton of pictures I took while on it. One reason I'd love to see Disneyland bring back a version of it.
sent from one of my viewers, and turns out it's produced by another one! Here's where you can order it: www.teepublic.com/t-shirt/292896-dreamfinder-and-figment?store_id=8330
When I was very little in the late 70s my favorite attraction was the Mickey Mouse Revue. It was located where philharmagic is located now. It was a musical review from famous Disney animated shorts and features and had animatronics of all your favorite characters. There was also my mom's favorite. I still remember our first visit when it was no longer there and we were told that it has been moved to Tokyo Disney. I remember I was so disappointed. There are a couple videos on UA-cam of the attraction the quality of the videos aren't very good because most of them are from the early days of video recording.
I was so excited to hear you mention Astroworld, it was my home park. It still breaks my heart knowing it is no longer there and we will probably never have another park in Houston. Thank you for your videos! I love watching
My first memory of Disney is from 79 at Disneyland. I can vividly remember every one of the attractions and rode every one you mentioned from Disneyland. Loved every one of those attractions. Still miss the people mover and skyway. Would be a great way to get around the park now.
First trip to Disney World 1977 as a 20 year old so I have experienced many attractions no longer there. First attraction I ever experienced was Mickey Mouse Revue (currently Philarmagic). Animatronics of classic Disney characters moving on and off stage preparing to give a musical concert. Attraction was moved piece by piece to Tokyo where it was shown into the 2000’s. Also in Magic Kingdom Eastern Air Lines “Wings of Man” later to be Delta Air Flight which is now Buzz Lightyear. That was a non ticket attraction back in the day where you bought a ticket book for rides Level A-E. One of my favorites was in the Wonders of Life Pavilion at Epcot was Cranium Command. A story about how the brain of a 13 year old boy reacts. Lots of video screens but fun. The original Journey Into Imagination ride featuring The Dream Finder with Figment was so much better than the current ride. Great song to go with the original ride. I miss Honey I Shrunk The Audience which replaced Captain EO at Epcot. I also experienced the legendary Horizons Ride at Epcot along with World of Motion. I miss the walking back lot tour at HS that took over an hour to do. HS when it opened was comprised of Torres and shows with not many rides. I got picked to run a special effects sound effects board for a show at HS. They quite a few shows with guests picked to play parts in shows. I have taken the Behind The Magic Tour and we visited back stage at Lights, Motors, Action and I blurted out that it was an expensive show which the tour guide confirmed. Also miss Catastrophe Canyon as part of one of the many variants of the Back Lot Tour. There are so many others but I have gone on long enough.
I haven't been to WDW, but of the DLR ones, I've been on 6 of the 8. I didn't get to try Superstar Limo or the Golden Horseshoe Revue. I miss PeopleMover and the Skyway the most because they were a break for my feet and still interesting. Great video, Sir Willow. Thanks!
haha! #3 the Innerspace one! I thought the same thing and remember my dad "confirming" that yes, in fact, we had shrunk! It was so cool. My only regret is that I can't share that with my kids.
Was Captain EO in WDW as well? I remember a space themed 3D movie with Michael Jackson dancing around and creepy things where litteraly going out in the theatre while you had the first generation (blue and red) 3D googles on. I think I enjoyed it but My musical fanboy of today would probebly liked it better. Johan.
Thank you for the trip down memory lane at Disneyland! I got to go on Mission to Mars about 2 weeks before it closed. I also saw the "very final show" of the Electric Light Parade. Some great memories there.
To be fair and to give a little more credit to the Golden Horseshoe, yes they dont have the full Revue show at Disneyland, But every hour or so, there will be a small musical performance by a person or two on piano playing Disney favorites. The first time i finally got to eat inside, this January, was during the last 15 minutes of this talented lady's performance, and I remember her last song was Carousel Of Progress' Theme Song, and hardly anyone in the audience knew the song except for me, so I was the only one who cheered in excitement for her and got to sing along! It actually cheered her up to know someone knew the song lol. But anyways, yes Golden Horseshoe no longer has their famous Revue performance, but theres always a performance every hour or so!
I don’t quite remember the name, but before Soarin, there was a ride where you got onto a hang glider like thing for 2-3 people and flew all over. I’ll never forget flying over orange groves and it smelling like oranges! I wish they could incorporate more stuff like that today. I also miss the test all you want pop from around the world even though its not a ride.
I’m still waiting for a chance to go to a Disney park for the first time 😂 My health has gotten pretty bad, so no options to work and save up to go lol
I remember the first and last time I wrote Star Tours. I was so excited because I am a big Star Wars fan. However I did get motion sickness and I was so sick coming out of that ride. And it was very difficult because it let out in a shop and I was just running for a garbage can.
I got to experience Superstar Limo too! My dad and I laughed about how cheesey it was but it was honestly fun. Plus, it never had a line so it was always good to just fill up some time. Some other rides/attractions I got to experience that aren't there anymore/changed: Innovations, original Star Tours (I can still recite it all), most of the original DCA rides/attractions (though my "favorite" was the carousel and pretty bummed they got rid of the themeing), Bugs Land (feel that was important to mention since originally DCA didn't have that), Malestrom (went to WDW for the first and only time the summer before Frozen came out), Camp Minnie and Mickey, and is Raffki's part of AK still there? If not, that one too!
20000 leagues under the sea, mission to Mars, Mike Fink keel boats, If you had wings, Delta Dream flight, the Swan Boats, in MK. All the original Epcot attractions that have been replaced.
I got to ride Adventures in a Inner Space and the original submarine ride. Those were both very fun. One show that I really liked at that time was America Sings. I miss that one.
Like you, I loved the people movers, inner space and the skyway. There is another but I can never remember the name. It was an auditorium that had animatronics putting on a show and the auditorium would slowly move. I think it was called America sings but not sure. I also loved the space one that made you feel like you were in space. When my seat started to inflate, I thought it was the coolest thing lol I also love captain eo (and still do even though it's now a little cheesy).
My Mother Grew up in the city of Orange and Disneyland was always down the road so she got to experience a lot as a kid her 3 personal favorites were the Flying saucers ride, The people mover, and the Disneyland version of the Carousel Progress My Grandfather knew a guy who could get better deals for the Ticket books
Shout to Body Wars at Epcot I will always miss that ride and hope that they do something with the place other than the festival center stuff during events. I did hear from a cast member that the simulators and waiting areas exist and are used for storage.
Considering your shirt, I'm surprised you didn't mention the original format for figment. I've only been to Disney as a little kid. I believe it was 87. I don't remember if we rode it, but we did see the Dreamfinder with the Figment puppet.
Bear country jamboree! That was the best, sing with me, "blood on my saddle..blood all around." Rode rocketrods nothing special, would have been a great mouse ride if done right, it was like riding a ride driven by grandma, slowed down for turns to a crawl. Rode alien encounter something that belonged in Knott's Scarry farm. I enjoy the posts. They are gone for a reason.
I remember when they were testing and training for Lights, Motors, action. They used a part of Epcot parking lot in 2004. I miss Maelstrom, original Test Track and Soarin’. I went to WDW in 75 and rode the sky ride but 20 thousand leagues was down for maintenance so boohoo. Eastern airlines had a ride “ If we had wings”. I think was the name. In 85 I did Epcot so I rode the original everything I think.
I know I saw Captain EO back in 1988 when I was 10, my first trip to Disney World, but I don't really remember it because I struggled a great deal with trying to work the 3D glasses, which I'd never used before. It was probably the first hint that I needed glasses, which I would get less than a year later. It's just too bad that fumbling around trying to figure out how to focus with these things caused me to not remember a single second of the film.
in truth, you haven't missed much. it was very much a product of the 80's. My kids when they saw it a couple of years back in the short lived "revival" were not impressed.
At this point I've only been to Disney World. Back then there was just MK and Epcot. (It was the late 80's) I remember riding Maelstrom (which I liked) and watching Captain EO (it was just ok). One ride that sticks out to me is Mr Toads wild ride I know it's no longer at WDW, but not sure if it has a place at Disney Land. I was really disappointed when I found out that Lights,Motors, Action stunt show and Disney Quest aren't there anymore I would have really enjoyed both of them. Oh well. I still have plenty to look forward to as I'm going back to WDW this September (2020)
The whole pavilion that had body wars in it for the life of me I can't think of it, the old test track, the sky way in magic kingdom in wdw similar to dl
wonders of life! I've been in the pavilion during a couple of the festivals when they used it for those, but it was long after the rides and shows were closed. Should be interesting to see what it's like in the new form when they reopen it next year
Never been to WDW but yes did all the extinct Disneyland ones! There is a new show at the Golden Horseshoe but not sure what. I'm going next week if we see it I'll let you know!
First I am the other one - lol - EO had a good message and think it a bit dated in fashion but could still be prevalent today and especially with the nostalgia of MJ I think it could still play --- Had friends that moved to Tampa and so we got to go to WDW before even EPCOT was there - I loved Stich and didn't see a problem with it but when we first went - it was Mission to the Moon - I think we did that the first time or it could be my Mom telling me about it when she went with my sister's band trip but I think it was Moon the first time which was really about the same as Mars - maybe a little different and the video changed but then after the moon landing of course was old news and we weren't going there any more I guess they upgraded to Mars and I can remember doing it some - we went down usually once a year --- then of course the Extraterroristial (?) I did it a few times but it was very scary that first time - there was some man with a little 5-6 year old or maybe younger one and he kept pushing to get the cast member to let him take him on and we thought please to give in cause we knew nightmares would be following --- - It of course had more story too it in the beginning - out in the first indoor area - they were promoting the international exhibition type thing with posters and maybe slides from different groups - then you had the pre show and the live actors knowing they weren't quite ready for the tell-a-porting and the leader of some planet deciding that instead of the one person picked from the group coming to meet him he would come himself and we could all be blessed with seeing him in person -- then the cute demo with the poor critter getting toasted - then you go into the big room - but our saving grace was we ended up on the back of the 3 rows and so I knew that there was no way a alien monster was running or breathing on me from behind cause there was a wall there but in the dark and the effects it was sooo real but not only that part but also when there is a power outage and the two running it from somewhere else asked a tech person to go check the fuses and you see the light walk across the cat walk above and then on a screen see something and hear him screaming and maybe more fluid splatter you like when the alien breaks thru the glass - oh because the machine wasn't ready instead of getting the Leader another planet passes in front and we get the monster which you see in the case in the middle - but yeah it was scary - I think in the end you get really splattered as if he blew up maybe -- Was not very family friendly Disney - Also got to ride thru Delta Flight and If You Had Wings before Buzz - I think the first time or two we did Snow White's Scary Adventure it was from her view so you didn't even see her - and The Honey I Shrunk the Audience and before that the 3 D Movie with the kids flying kites and later witches faces flying toward you - before Capt EO = and the Making Memories pre show there ---- the Kids and Kites movie was also over where Philharmagic is and I remember the Lion King puppet show in there and another 3D Cartoon before that too - also a Walt Disney display where you meet Mickey now - and of course Toontown there ------ Now for me when I see most of the people on The Dis talk about rides and shows that they never saw and I am thinking really - it isn't that long ago when we first went so they must be very new to the parks but I remember that we went a few years before my son was born - he went his first trip at 2 months and we did EPCOT during their first year - so he will be 37 this year but still forty years doesn't seem that long ago lol - Of course we did the now extinct Universe of Energy before Ellen joined the show - Tomorrow's Child and the Valdez were part of the shows outside the dino ride but that first time it broke down and our friends were holding our son and we came in at the last part right before loading so we got separated to sit down and had no idea the seats moved but we were stopped near the 2 fighting dinos up on the rocks and we looked back when the lights came on and our friends were 4-5 rows back and our friend that was holding our sleeping son was trying to shuush the roaring fighters jokingly because we had the diaper bag and food and they had the baby lol and he didn't want him to wake up - lol we also go to do the Hydrolaters of Living Seas and both of the other shows in the Land - Food Rocks and the first Kitchen Cabaret - which I had to feed our son during and he wasn't a bottle baby lol ----- it was just the right amount of time in the dark and a cute show too ---- and of course Horizons and the Original how we traveled show in what is now Test Track -- and Wonders of Life - it's Body Wars was like the shrinking show you talked about --- and before Lights Motor Action was the back lot tours where you had the walking part of the tour with special effects because MGM Studio was about the making of movies and then you had the right thru tour with the house facades like the Golden Girls House and the one from Earnest Saves Christmas - and one from Splash and of course Catastrophe Canyon and then you walked thru the sound stages and looked down from up above and they did some more special effects putting kids in the crowd on a giant bee to film --- You also could walk around in the back lot some and The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were doing shows and riding in their van with April - and of course both the sound stage shows one with Bill Murray and the Drew Carey one -- Also had a different Beauty and the Beast show where they opened the Sunset Blvd at now and over toward the Muppets section the did a Hunchback show too and the Dinosaurs from the comedy show would ride a double bus thru the streets and stop in front of the Chinese Theatre and with dancers do Walk The Dinosaur song --- wow so many great memories - thanks for reminding me - and of course the Movie Ride and I know I am forgetting some of the things but I have already went too long - oh sky buckets there too and the race track was much longer then too ok one more - Mr Toad's Wild Ride - my husband and son never got over that one lol
I'm waiting to see. I loved the old bridge, but if you were in a wheelchair it was horrible with the bumps. Supposedly the new one is also wider. I'm expecting that they'll still have the theming, and hopefully the guy in the window still.
Coming from the SF Bay Area (raised not born) moving to Houston and visiting 7 flags in Houston was such a downer. It was, anticlimactic to say the least.
My list: Superstar Limo Captain EO Honey I Shrunk the Audience Disneyland Skyway Fantasyland and Tomorrowland Autopia (they were once a separate rides) Rocket Rods Mickey Mouse Revue Electrical Parade Submarine Voyage Original Star Tours and The Adventures Continue pre-Episode 9 (I assume that one is extinct now since they replace it with episode 9)
I have no objections to going to Galaxy’s Edge on the west coast, but I told my girlfriend I’m boycotting the east coast one until a Star-Wars stunt show is installed. For those of you who care why, because Lights Motors Action was my favorite attraction on the complex. (With it gone, Fantasmic has defaulted to the top spot.) I’ve also got an idea for a new show at Norway. “As Told by Olaf”, where an Olaf muppet retells Disney stories in the same parody style that he did in Frozen 2. Example: The Lion King - m.ua-cam.com/video/8l60biFhrrw/v-deo.html
I didn't mention it because I never experienced it. the current version is the only one I've been on. (Remember, I didn't visit Walt Disney World for the first time until 2006)
I only went to Disneyland once when I was 11 in '79 at the end of the year, so I remember orange E tickets and my dad's gf rolling her eyes at the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse. The Matterhorn line was waaaaay too long, but YAY Space Mountain was do-able, and the Southwest looking train that went underground, Thunder Valley? I went on a submarine ride that I loved but not sure what the theme was, not sure if Pirates of the Caribbean was a thing yet but I think I rode it, ride looks very familiar though. Small World (hated it but was grateful anyway I got to experience it), Teacups, Haunted Mansion (mind blown by mirror illision), People Mover,...(trying to jog memory...). Night closing Parade,... On really cool thing was the fact that I was on tour with my dad who was the musical conductor for Holiday on Ice, it was the biggest traveling show on the planet, and we were playing the convention center across the street and on New Year's when the ball dropped I got to watch the fireworks from on top of our trailer! (we all parked there because there was hook-up) I remember the Village People debuting "Ready for the Eighties" on tv. It was exciting but I was alone for it because I wasn't working that night, the whole company was doing the show. Ugh wall of text, apologies!
I just screamed out loud when I clicked on the video to watch and realized you are wearing a shirt I designed!
Really? That's awesome! It was a gift to me from one of my viewers- Barry Hom. I love Figment and Dreamfinder.
I saw captain EO back in the 80s when I was a kid and loved it. Saw it again as an adult in 2011. You're right. It has aged so badly that it's almost cringeworthy.

Did you ever get to ride the motor boats in fantasyland at disneyland? I loved them. How about the original country bear jamboree? Lots of fun

I remember Captain EO. I was 8-ish when I saw it. I thought it was really cool... maybe it was cheesy, but I liked it!
Besides the Electric Light parade 80's addition. ...lol. I can say that I got to ride the 20,000 Leagues Under the sea at WDW.
My favorite part of my family's one trip to Disney World was Cranium Command. The whole Wonders of Life Pavilion was really cool too.
I lost it when you described the showgirls, that was so adorable, hope you didn't catch cooties!
I'm glad WDW still has the people mover. It's my family's favorite "ride".
me too. We loved it, and almost always took a round on it. I've got a ton of pictures I took while on it. One reason I'd love to see Disneyland bring back a version of it.
Definitely miss the original Journey into Imagination. Has to go down as the worst refurbishment in Disney History!
I always love the bloopers! Thank you for adding them! And, Thank you for sharing a part of your day with us!
Can we just talk about that shirt! Neeeed waaaant!! Figment is my spirit animal lol
sent from one of my viewers, and turns out it's produced by another one! Here's where you can order it: www.teepublic.com/t-shirt/292896-dreamfinder-and-figment?store_id=8330

Awesome video as always. Really brought some light to a not-so-fun day. Thanks, SirWillow

WDW: Catastrophe Canyon and Backlot Tour, 20,000 Leagues, and Sky Ride.
Totally agree about Captain EO. Glad I experienced it. Glad I never will again.
Thanks for the new video! Love your channel.

yes it was. Captain EO replaced Magic Journeys in the Magic Eye Theater in Epcot.
Zac Brzuchalski So I could have seen it in 1990? J.

That would be the original version of Soarin': Soarin' over California before they changed it to Soarin' around the World.
I’m still waiting for a chance to go to a Disney park for the first time 😂 My health has gotten pretty bad, so no options to work and save up to go lol

That one that was where stitch was. Alien something where you got monster slobber all over. Ugh.
I rode the original Snow White and Dumbo at WDW, also the backlot tour at Hollywood Studios as well as Ellen’s Energy Adventure at Epcot.
I did hear from a cast member that the simulators and waiting areas exist and are used for storage.
the simulators have mostly, if not completely, been stripped down for parts for Star Tours, sadly. they'll never operate again.
Considering your shirt, I'm surprised you didn't mention the original format for figment. I've only been to Disney as a little kid. I believe it was 87. I don't remember if we rode it, but we did see the Dreamfinder with the Figment puppet.
I never had a chance to ride it. My first trip to WDW was in 2006, well after the original had already been replaced.
I remember Mission to Mars. I remember how the seat sunk to mimic the feeling of g forces pushing you down into the seat
Hey I’d love a pin collection video!
My old rides I liked at DisneyWorld was Body Wars, the original Journey into imagination, Malstrom.
I was ten when I was on Mission to Mars and I had the same impression.
At this point I've only been to Disney World. Back then there was just MK and Epcot. (It was the late 80's)
I remember riding Maelstrom (which I liked) and watching Captain EO (it was just ok).
Should be interesting to see what it's like in the new form when they reopen it next year
I have vague memories of Bear Country Jamboree at Disneyland.
We saw that one several times as well, but I didn't list it since it's still at WDW and I've seen it there also. :-)
Never had the opportunity to go to WDW, just Disneyland.
My family mom, Dee and I really liked the great movie ride.
I miss the great movie ride and maelstrom!
Never been to WDW but yes did all the extinct Disneyland ones! There is a new show at the Golden Horseshoe but not sure what. I'm going next week if we see it I'll let you know!
Wasn’t the Six Flags in Houston the one where the girls feet were torn off on that one ride?
No that was Kentucky. Which is no longer owned by Six Flags and that ride is long gone.
I remember riding Mission to Mars when I was 10
I was disappointed that Captain EO was gone when I went to the 60th anniversary
That ride was kind of scary and it got me sick
I’m sad that they demolished the bridge at sdc and rebuilding it. I hope they guy in the window is still there after. 😰
7 flags? Do you mean 6 Flags Astroworld? :-) It was certainly an "interesting" park. look for the video I did about it specifically. :-)
My list:
Superstar Limo
Captain EO
Honey I Shrunk the Audience
Disneyland Skyway
Fantasyland and Tomorrowland Autopia (they were once a separate rides)
Rocket Rods
Mickey Mouse Revue
Electrical Parade
Submarine Voyage
Original Star Tours and The Adventures Continue pre-Episode 9 (I assume that one is extinct now since they replace it with episode 9)
I have no objections to going to Galaxy’s Edge on the west coast, but I told my girlfriend I’m boycotting the east coast one until a Star-Wars stunt show is installed. For those of you who care why, because Lights Motors Action was my favorite attraction on the complex. (With it gone, Fantasmic has defaulted to the top spot.)
I’ve also got an idea for a new show at Norway. “As Told by Olaf”, where an Olaf muppet retells Disney stories in the same parody style that he did in Frozen 2. Example: The Lion King - m.ua-cam.com/video/8l60biFhrrw/v-deo.html
Nice ahirt
The "GOOD" Journey into Imagination ride, surprised you didn't mention it, I'd call it extinct compared to the "Thing"That is there now
I didn't mention it because I never experienced it. the current version is the only one I've been on. (Remember, I didn't visit Walt Disney World for the first time until 2006)
Send in the German uboats
It’s not empty they have dueling pianos in their now at the Golden Horseshoe
Not the same. :-) It sat empty for a long time. That's a short term filler.
