A basic documentary on how F-Knives made a Custom Handle for a Morakniv Classic 2. Blade from Mora of Sweden.
It consists of Birdseye Maple, Redwood Lace Burl, Canvas, and a Black Tail Deer Antler.

To all the people bitching about the breathing noises...Lighten the hell up please. The man does beautiful work, and unless you live your life with a respirator strapped to your face, you don't understand how dangerous BREATHING PARTICULATE MATTER from sanding, welding and machining processes can be. My dad found a knife like this decades ago stabbed into the ground by a river, I’ve always wanted to find one and thanks to this video I’ve made one.

Well done and a very nice result. I like the idea of re-purposing the knife with the more elegant antler and wood. Antler is tricky. It has its own lines and curves. You've got to work it just right with the wood to make the lines of everything flow. A great project. I'm gonna try it.

Antler is a pain because making wood mate with Antler creates a huge room error.

This is beautiful! It helped me answer questions on how to join wood and antler together. Although, I think I'll try to do this without the canvas first. I'm not sure if you might now, but, I'm wondering if you have recommendations on how to repair a drilled hole that went too far in an antler? I'm making a tobacco pipe and accidentally drilled too far for the bowl piece! If a repair is possible, the materials would need to be fire resistant and safe for smoking... still searching for possibilities. No problem if you don't have a comment on that. Thank you for this video, nonetheless! Love it.

Love that stack technique... well, love to watch someone else do it. Haha... but i like this way more than shaping horn, bone, or antler.
PS- I admire how you use the vice to set up all the stages of work. Simple and genius.

It would be helpful if you gave a materials list and a little more information like how do you prep the antler before you use it etc. The finished product is excellent

It looks absolutely amazing! Btw what kinda of wood is that dark wood you used? It's one of the prettiest things I've ever seen in the cruel kingdom of god. And also, why did you stacked those pieces of cloth between the two different woods?

Wait. So when using antler, you don't need to use pins? You can just use epoxy to keep the handle on? Or am I missing something?
Modern epoxies work great,no pin needed

I’m currently working on a knife and I thought about ordering some reindeer antlers to make the handle do y’all think I should do it or get some polished oak wood
Whatever you really fancy. For me to use antler or anything I need to have the PERFECT antler. Its also what you feel comfortable with. Personally, antler is just drilling a hole and shaping the bolster, wood is sculpting out the whole thing.
Just a suggestion. Next time try a blade by Lauri. I think you will be impressed.

sweet ! personally I would have put a brass guard .
I tend to avoid using Metal on many knives. I mostly use woods, since a lot of metal is expensive and it's hard to machine.
making a Bass Guard and a Corresponding Slot to fit the blade becomes harder on the whole process of making the knife.
Putting Metal on a stacked handle also means you need to have a very clean belt on the grinder because if not, the heat could burn the epoxy (remember epoxy works with a thermal reaction)

F-Knives: Custom Blades And Handles just keep the knife cool with water and recess the tang so it’s square, ez-pz better to have a brass guard than leave end grain open, also you should probably clamp those segments together a bit tighter
He apply some glue to the wood stopper and to the deer horn.. but in the middle of two wood he put some clothes as a expansion material.for temp.change.hand palm protection..
Nice work.. but I think that all the stuff that you put at the front of the antler takes valuable space for the tang to be effective and making it a “safer” knife to use. Beautiful show piece though 👍
can i get some measurements for everything? ie: wood size for the blocks that u cut, how deep to drill into everything etc
You're going to have to find out through some trial and error.
But I will say that 1/4" drill bits are a man's best friend when it comes to a lot of this work haha.

Get sum surgicial tubing . It saves on string . Or fat rubber bands . Makes for a firmer securement

Not at all!
I try to keep it simple so just plain oil helps, it won't chip or damage over time.
In some handles we use Wood Hardener and that creates a Gorgeous gloss compared to oil.
Just using what's around you know?
Poly Coatings would work like a dream though.

If you can get your hands on some purple heart wood, it would look great with an antler for the handle, I have worked with purple heart wood once, and this is my second time (currently making a handle for a mora blade) using the wood but it is a nice color when the project is done.
Never really liked it.

It's oil.
Plain Jane Canola oil.
It not only brings out the subtle features of the wood grain but also protects the Carbon blade.

this exceeds a DIY..... u have all the damm tools, I found a broken 7 inch deert antler today and said to my self mhm maybe I can make a knife out of this... I'm not even gonna try this.
What did you submerse the handle at the end?

You can get Mora #1 and #2 knife blanks so you don't have to spent the time loosing them from their birch handles.
