My Dane is 4 and he's very loyal but gets so excited for walks he jumps on everything and pulls to see people which for them is terrifying He's also kinda of protective so it's not so great around others. Tips for this? He's a "smaller" dane 140lb
With mine, I would take him for walks an at first he would pull a little bit but I’d just hold the leash close enough to where we were walking next to eachother. After a while I’d let it go to abt 4 feet or so & he’d pull a bit. I’d lightly pull it back an tell him with me & he’s almost 3 now an walks behind me😂😂

I do love the idea of a control movement at crosswalks but a sit command is often uncomfortable for our Danes, and they often prefer do to go in full down position. In your video Gus doesn't actually sit so sort of supports our theory. This is why why crossing intersections I prefer a simple stop command. Our Dane stays at our hip...no movement until we give the a heel command to move forward. Big boi is standing straight up, fully watching us and has no need for the extra effort of half-sitting.

No way for retractable. Plain (like yours) leash. I learned the thumb was strongest - interesting. Yes...Kuda almost automatically sits when a road is underfoot.

What I do want to know is, how do you stop your GD from walking in front of you at home? My GD walk in front of me, stops and waits to see which way I'm going. Only problem is, I can't go anywhere because he's blocking my way. Is there a way to train him not to do this?
My Great Dane pulls so hard the second I take him out that he pulled me on the ground over 15 feet behind him, I lost a lot of skin on my legs, face, and wrist was bruised, I could not let go of the leash because it got wrapped around my wrist, I was so bloody. I do not know what to do. I will probably have to rehome him.

I have an 18 month old Daniff who is still frightened by strange adults. If out on a walk she will hide behind me, no growling or whimpering though. And even with my parents she is still super shy. She has finally started to stay still or approach my mum for a pat, but tail between her legs. With my father though she won’t stay still or approach him at all. I’ve even tried giving my parents treats to try and bribe her, but she won’t have it. However, whenever my children have friends over, whilst she doesn’t behave in the same super comfortable way she does with my children, she readily approaches and enjoys physical contact. Is this normal? Is there something I can do to make her more comfortable around strange adults?

I am now disabled and run our border collies leased to the sides of our golf cart. (We live in a retirement community that allows carts) we are aware that strenuous exercise after eating is no good do you have any thoughts about it otherwise? Thanks for any help.

It just takes LOTS of time and practice! Do short sessions, and make sure to reward them afterwards so that they associate a positive outcome with the leash.
Got a 5 month old deaf beautiful WHITE puppy SYRUS he is still to hyper.. at the start of walking absolutely exited ..and wild... it goes down some after a while.. but he is still to short to see my hand gestures .. as I try to signal him to slow down ..there is plenty OF distractions..plenty of tips out there for deaf GD..but nothing for a small pup.. will have one soon also down the street from us a Neighbor ...... while we got a Network of Now old Great Dane Friends ..to place every WHITE PUP so please if you could find some training tips for deaf and little jung GD...while we need to start training as early as possible.. mine..Syrus...knows now.. drop it ..sit..stay..eat ..House .stop.. pee..come.. ..need more info while being so close to the ground is difficult to teach ..and he doesn't look UP jet... any idea ..appreciated.. thank you..and stay awesome and safe🥰

I don't want him to be afraid of walking on a leash, but also I wont be able to carry him down the stairs and outside much longer. Accidents are not really a problem as long as I bring him outside in time, but getting him to go out willingly with me is the challenge. I've tried high value treats and its not enough, Any tips would really help! Thanks :)
Vine is 6 and a 1/2 he just likes to sniff things now he just stops every 2nd sniffs I feel bad this sometimes I tug on the leash and say let's go I'm such a jerk
Only after (1) the other dogs owner has approved them greeting each other and (2) I have released my dog from a heel, sit, etc... position. The second point is key because they should only be greeting other dogs after you have approved as well. Of course, all of this goes out the window at the dog park ;)
Your dog doesn't respect you. My jaxson needs no leash, as I'd leash a human before I'd leash him, and he NEVER leaves my side, NO MATTER WHAT. Bullshit buddy!

Try different high value treats, a favorite toy, and an over the top playful attitude. The latter being the most important 😉

It's not a matter or respect - it's simply following the law. Dogs are required by law to be on-leash in many public areas these days.
