Comments are somewhat soothing becuse its good to know I'm not the only one with this issue. It doesn't exactly help that no-one in my household seems to know the Sky ID password so essentislly nothing can be done. Thanks, guys! =D
JC If you're using Chrome, go to Preferences > Extensions > Get more extensions, and then search for "ZenMate". Add the "ZenMate Security, Privacy & Unblock VPN" extension, and voila! Everything blocked by Sky is accessible again.
JC Sorry mate, I replied to everyone, I'm just trying to help people out. Not everyone's as computer literate as you. :) How do you know that this is something Sky's pushing on everyone? I mean, you've gotten it in March, and I've gotten it in May, you'd think everyone would get it all at once if that was the case. You'd also think that the Sky forums would be in uproar if it was happening to everyone, but I haven't really seen any complaints as of yet.
Nick Overside As far as I can tell from watching some of their videos, reading their emails and their website, I'm fairly sure they're 'rolling out' broadband shield to all their customers throughout the UK - apparently everyone having it all switched on at once can't happen, hence the slow change. Look at the comments - some have been here since febuary and even 2014...
JC Well, thanks for clearing that up. And you're right, it definitely should be opt in, rather than opt out. I honestly don't understand how the people who make these decisions get to the positions they're in. I'm actually considering changing us over to a new provider because of this, and I expect many will do the same when this comes into full effect. This level of incompetence could cost them millions.
I never installed this shield to my network, yet sky shield appears to be blocking many websites for me, is there a reason for this being activated without my consent?
Why the hell u guys put up shield blocking on my sky for ? We didn't ask u guys to do this and when we try to change it u guys asking to log in then when we try it's not letting us in
I understand that sky broadband shield has age ratings for websites such as pg, 13 and 18 but how can you prove your age when using a certain device? . For example if you're 21 years old and want to access a website with violence or adult content via something like a smartphone and the shield settings block that website for the pg and 13 categories, how do you access it?
What the hell? I try to get into this and it asks me to confirm my details, though i'm not a sky customer so I click *I'm not a sky costume* and it just refreshes the page and doesn't do anything! please help me
Hcas If you're using Chrome, go to Preferences > Extensions > Get more extensions, and then search for "ZenMate". Add the "ZenMate Security, Privacy & Unblock VPN" extension, and voila! Everything blocked by Sky is accessible again.
Nick Overside Do you know anything about firefox? Also sky this was not necessary. Not only does this annoy me but also my family because you gave us my father's username on the info flyer about this but not password or the details of which email he (if ever, because he does not remember so) registered with. Now I cannot disable it even though we do not need it.
they unblock it at 9PM because that's when most parents send their children to sleep and the parents can start watching pornhub but you can probably have it turned on 24/7 but I'm not sure why anyone would want that
So at 22, my mum doesn't want me watching porn? I don't even know how to react to this. Is this definitely her doing, or could it have activated by itself? And if this is something deliberately done by her, does the service give a status report? Like, will it say "14:38: attempted to access ......."? If so, I've got about half an hour to guess her password.
Nick Overside Sky had set this as default for ALL its customers so your mother hasn't done anything. I doubt it gives a report - but you can try 2 things, either ask your mum for the account no. / debit card that pays the bill so you can go and change these bullshit settings OR you can just look up how to get around it - free VPNs etc will help you.
Sky broadband shield should be taken down you forced it on people suddenly sky broadband shield just appeared we had no say in it can't be arsed with it either ask people if they want it befor giving it to them or don't have this feature at all
Sky Broadband Shield offers you the opportunity to manage all aspects of age restricted sites or added security for your family's internet usage. You certainly can block gambling sites via Sky Broadband Shield, for more information check out our article here bit.ly/OX9qeO
I find it amusing how my 10 year old sister can access virtually any online game on her Laptop, but my ps4 can't even connect to my friends list (I'm 18 and restricted to internet. what has become of my life?) What's worse is, I only get 0.4KB of Upload speed when I do connect, making my streams stop entirely!
Joe Steed If you're using Chrome, go to Preferences > Extensions > Get more extensions, and then search for "ZenMate". Add the "ZenMate Security, Privacy & Unblock VPN" extension, and voila! Everything blocked by Sky is accessible again.
I tried it on my dad's pc it doesn't, but I just signed him into his sky account and switched it off. So he's fine now, However I too am a sky customer and I don't seem to have shield on mine and I don't remember opting out. I may start using proxy servers to be on the safe side.
i dont know my sky username so i can't unblock it so now i cant go on battlelog to sit back and play battlefield 3 so sky you really screwed up now i might just get virgin
It blocks things that aren't even a threat in plain it's a giant pain in the Arse

Should be opt in not opt out.. You've basically caused a minor nuisance to all of your customers with no children, or those over 18. Congrats.
JC If you're using Chrome, go to Preferences > Extensions > Get more extensions, and then search for "ZenMate". Add the "ZenMate Security, Privacy & Unblock VPN" extension, and voila! Everything blocked by Sky is accessible again.
Nick Overside I know how to get around it, Holmes. Hence the 'minor' nuisance part.

this should be an opt-in service like all the other ISPs like BT which my dad has or virgin which is what my uncle has.....
I never installed this shield to my network, yet sky shield appears to be blocking many websites for me, is there a reason for this being activated without my consent?
help it wont let me change my settings it just says that its available to sky customers with an active broadband subsciption
Can the owner find out what websites you have been accessing if that shield comes up
Will this notify the user? When trying to access a unauthorized website?
Why the hell u guys put up shield blocking on my sky for ? We didn't ask u guys to do this and when we try to change it u guys asking to log in then when we try it's not letting us in

TheTheblacklion Either get the account number/billing info and change the settings via sky website or use a vpn.
😅😅😅😅😊0
This is cool but will it ever be available to Sky customers in ROI or just UK only?
Hi there Alan, great to hear you are excited about our brand new Broadband Shield service and we hope to offer this for you in ROI in the future.

Why is this stupid shield on by default?? What stupid internet control you trying to achieve ???
wasn't sky broadband decision blame the tories
+next gen gaming pc sky had implemented this before ISPs had to have it although some smaller ISPs don't have a mandatory blocking feature
