My cousin was on drugs and in and of jail. He had different girl friends. Well, he turned himself around. But he eventually got cancer and passed away. My dad's brother was not on good side of the law. He served our country. Unfortunately, when he got of military, that's when he got in trouble. One day, he was at wrong place at wrong time. He got shot. My uncle was paralyzed from waist down. He had been married, not sure how many times. But, he lost one son. He drowned as a kid is my understanding. His other son is happy with his partner. My uncle got married to is last wife. But, unfortunately my uncle passed away to cancer. He also, smoked cigarettes. Not sure if he stopped the cigarettes before he passed away.

He has to want to kick his addiction. I don't wish addiction on anyone. When I quit smoking, I didn't realize I was addicted to nicotine until I quit cold turkey & it was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I don't even want to know how hard kicking a drug addiction can be.

@Hayley Zarco I quit cold turkey almost 10 years ago. Did I get cravings? Yes! Did I fail and have a cigarette (or 2 or 3 or 4) sometimes? Yes! But I just kept at it. Eventually the cravings lessen. It still comes up, but i remind myself I quit for myself and my health. When a craving hits, try and wait. It will pass. Find what works for you. Chewing gum, the patch, exercise. Quitting smoking was hard, but it's worth it. It's so, so bad for us. Much luck to anyone quitting, you can do it! 🥰

    Judge Mathis is Right. 💯
I had a friend who smoked crack till he got COPD.
    Over the thirty-five years I knew him;
    he was addicted to crack.
He had all he wanted, cooked it and sold it.
He changed he wasn't the same personality wise.
I tried to help him, nothing wasn't going to part him from that.
    He was never violent.
    Always clean, dressed nice.
Just so high lots of times he didn't know
    I was talking to him.
It was so sad to see this.

      Thank You,🌹
      I Appreciate You saying that.

      bought clothes, shoes.
He could maintain, he was an Excellent
Auto mechanic. Lots of times if I could
afford the part. He would put it on.
I would pay him the labor, when I got paid.
      He was never sloppy.
      Other people couldn't tell it.
      He just kept that going
      and Marlboro cigarettes.
I begged him to stop, go to rehab.
      He was like NO!!!
I used to work at a Nursing home.
So I just have Love for older people.
I told myself I will work this shift out.
He gave all kinds of money to his family.
When he died they didn't even have any
      type of service for him.
      I called the funeral home.
The funeral director told me since I didn't sign any paperwork.
I couldn't pay for the cremation.
Plus they weren't supposed to discuss
anything with anyone who wasn't on the paper work.
      That no service hurt me.
So I had my own Memorial Service for him.
He is Alright, I know that.
I saw him in my house he looked
      about twenty.
He smiled the biggest smile and
      just faded away.
I knew he was reassuring me, that
      he is okay.

    • @citypopFM

I've been a functional addict in my past, albeit with Oxys and heroin, and it's arguably worse if one thinks of their addiction so much they know to keep their jobs, keep up appearances, and keep their life from the outside looking in versus people who lose those things because of their habit. If you know to be functional, you learn to be the best liar in existence and enable your habit way longer than the next person. I've never used crack myself but I've seen plenty of people give away everything for it. I'm sorry to hear about your friend and how he gave his years to crack than to himself and the people who loved him.

@@regina805 You brought me to tears with this one. My mom has been addicted to crack since she was pregnant with me and I’m 38 years old. Our relationship is horrible and I have grown so cold towards her because I grew tired of excusing her terrible behavior because she is a drug attack. I unfortunately learned what everyone else have known for years. I was always told by multiple people (grandmother included) that they came to terms with discovering that it wasn’t the drugs that made her a bad person, it’s just who she is down to her core. I have friends and other men in my life that revere and have so much admiration for their mother, and really hurts sometimes that Im just not familiar with that feeling when it comes to mine. In the black community people rarely consider how many men are out here broken and hurt, but our culture teaches us that it’s not the nature of a man to feel anything other than aggression and indifference. It’s one of the most irresponsible beliefs in our community, and it results in so many black men having toxic masculinity. This is why many of us are physical, mentally, and emotionally violent towards others.

I was homeless for seven years i was on meth for a year then in 2018 i chose to get clean on my own without any treatment or addiction facility i made the decision because i wanted my mom to he proud and not worry about me i also wanted to start a family and have my our own place and car and one month after being clean i met my now husband and we slept on the street in a tent for an additional year then i got pregnant we started working while in a tent then we moved into our apartment but the moral of the story is me and my husband was heavy drinkers and never relapsed just cigarettes weed and alcohol then we made the decision to stop drinking and we been a month sober off of alcohol and ive been sober 6 years in April and for my husband 7 years this month so now we just smoke weed and cigarettes and we dont plan on relapsing

That’s an awesome story! Being homeless is always rough but it’s especially tough for women for a lot of different reasons. I’m so happy you met your husband, he probably protected you and you were both able to get off the drugs and even quit the drinking! Some former addicts think it’s okay to drink since they’re not on the heavy drugs anymore but as an alcoholic I can tell you it’s just as bad, I’ve seen people in their 30s die from it, they got into the hospital with jaundice or something and never leave, they die there a few days later. So, again, congrats!! ❤

Sis, a family rental home/hardship home will be your worst nightmare. Trust me sell it and split the proceeds, if you already has a home.
Trust, this story is every day life, especially in ATLANTA. Our grandmothers worked hard, built wealth, purchased beautiful homes in Atlanta and their daughters succeed and the sons failed to drugs.
But at the end of the day, the home is property and will be best sold, if the family will turn it into a flop house...short of a drug house. 😒

@@buckAWEsum exactly! JM has the resources and he’ll hold litigants accountable. Rehab is largely a private practice that preys on repeat offenders, it’s how they make their money. It’s not cheap, either! Idk if this man has insurance (maybe SSI or Medicaid since he gets a social security check) but the ones rehab cover are super depressing and they’re usually for 28 days, not 90 which HAS proven to be the better route for recovering addicts. So I think the lawsuit was less about that $1600 and more about getting him help because we all know JM loves those crazy crackheads

Mathis isn't wrong in being blunt to the defendant about his health failing any time with his habit especially at his age. My godfather died on a basketball court of a heart attack in his 30's from snorting that 80's LA coke. I've never done coke or crack myself but I've seen what it does to people, even functional addicts who know enough to not give everything for their habit, and it never ends well. Dude made it to his age and looks alright if he's been into crack for decades, but it'll take you either way.
