Thanks for posting the songs of Schooner Fare. I am not sure you are from Maine, but I live near Washington, D.C. We had a folk show on radio that played alot of Schooner Fare in the 1980s. They have a HUGE following in the D.C. area. Sell outs. I go to Maine every October since 1987. We have seen Schooner Fare in Maine and DC so many times. Sad that Bar Harbor Day in 1998, attracted a very small crowd. I told Steve, they sound the best at the Barns of Wolf Trap and he agreed. Sadly, I still have my ticket stub for a Schooner Fare concert, from December 2003, Tom's very last concert, ever. I had no idea he was ill, as he did have a tall stool on stage. My wife sad he did sound a bit hoarse at times, as that was due to the throat cancer. The brothers were in DC in January for a annual big folk concert, when they got the word that Tom was dying. They left immediately. The very last concert we saw live, before Covid was a Schooner Fare Concert. ua-cam.com/video/tU3Od3I_9YU/v-deo.html Buskin and Batteau was the opening duo, as we are huge fans of them too. All the best, Mike
Tom was my best friend in high schools father. He passed just a few years before my own father. He was a great man, and all the memories I have of him make me laugh. Its been almost one year to the day of my fathers funeral...and thinking of that broughf the words Toms daughter sent to me in a Christmas card. Both our Fathers taught us peace and Love...and Toms heart shines through in this music. Thanks to whoever up loaded it...and Marin...I lost ur #. Call Me.
AquarianCrow Hello. I saw your comment tonight. You left it a few months ago. Tom passed way too early & I didn't even know him. I appreciate you sharing your memories. It backs up what I've read. What an outstanding person, along with being an outstanding singer/musician. I'm sorry for the loss of your father. For me, the first few years anniversary's & holidays were very difficult. You were both blessed to have father's who taught Peace & Love. I love their music. I've never been able to see them. Thank you for listening & sharing. My best to you, Moppet
AquarianCrow. Just wanted to thank you for your remembrances of the beloved Tom Rowe, and your remembrances of him and (your best friend in high school), his son. And please know that I too, offer condolences on the loss of your beloved father. And wishing you “Peace and love”, in memory of both of their beautiful souls. And cannot thank you enuf, for having posted this “all those years ago” (Hari Georgeson).
+GirlyB923 If you click on "Show More" you can see the research I did. I've loved this song and this song since I first heard it. I wanted the true story told. You have an amazing ancestor! I'm glad you found this and thank you for commenting. Nice to meet you, Moppet
Yeah, this is one terrific song. I once talked about it to Steve Romanoff, who wrote it. And yes, John Percival was indeed a real person. This recording comes off of their "Classic Schooner Fare" album. Yes, it was originally on "Closer to the Wind", which was actually released in 1981.
@Garrettk41 ...2nd part. He is missed by many who never even knew him! Thanks for all your input. It is appreciated greatly. These guys deserve all the attention possible. I'm adding a link to their site also. Bye for now. Stop by anytime to check it out and keep me straight...My best to you!
I have a lot of their music up. Don't know if I have an entire album though. I've been ill and can't promise to look or make videos. (I used to do requests). Thanks for stopping by. Utube change format years ago. you could type in group name on my channel and get all their music. They took that option away. My best to you, Moppet
I've followed the guys since the Schooner Fare/ Devon square Reunions. I went to school with Tom. His loss was very hard for us. His son is doing well in the Music business. Unfortunately, nothing is for ever. God musty have one hell of a band
Claude Rounds He must have been a wonderful man from all I've read & comments that have been made. It is also rare that a member of a group is not replaced. I appreciate your info on his son & also thank you for taking the time to comment. I wish I had been able to see them. My best to you, Barbara
@577billbill Thanks, but it is really Schooner Fare who has done well! I am so glad you found this and enjoyed. Please come back for a listen whenever you wish! I have quite a bit more of their music to upload, but it is slow. Check back if you are a fan. There will be more. (I LOVE Mad Jack! Especially since it is more than half true...what a wonderful character!). My best, Moppet (Barbara)
@MyMoppet52 Glad to help. I'm a big SF fan. I didn't exactly know Tom per se', but I had talked to him a few times. It sure was devistating when he died. And yes, "Closer to the Wind" was actually their second album, back when Steve had curly black hair. And if you want to learn more about John Percival, there's an article about him on Wikipedia.
@Garrettk41 Thanks a bunch. I've changed stuff around due to your statement and am happy to get it 'right'. I'm glad you took the time to let me know. Stop by and help anytime!
@Garrettk41 Thank you for your info! It is so good to hear from someone who knows the group. I will change my info & also add this is from a true tale. I am finding many of the groups released cassette tapes & records early, Then the cds later. The cds were not considered re-releases. I will update per your info. I am sorry it got it confused. I want to get the info right to honor the groups. I respect them for themselves and their work. It sounds like you knew Tom. He is missed by many.
@577billbill Hello. I am just checking my comments since it appears I've missed quite a few. I found this from you & though I've responded I just had to say this is one of the nicest comments I've received and I didn't even let you know! Thank you very much! You have put a smile on my face today!!!! Thanks, Moppet
