+jonesy7744 that's the clock spring, it allows the wheel to rotate without putting stress on the electrical connections to the wheel, such as air bag, horn and MFSW.
Hey its not necessary to remove the steering wheel, to remove the lower molding. Just turn the steering wheel to the left and right to get access to the 2 Phillip head screws, behind the wheel.
Not so on my '03 Bora. The plastic shaft the left hand screw behind the wheel goes into cannot be pulled out without first removing the wheel(or maybe breaking the shaft/sawing part of the plastic cover off. But if you want to keep it all intact, the wheel has to come off. I know cos I tried it a million ways!

THIS IS WHAT I DID AND IT FIXED THE PROBLEM !!!! I WAS QUOTED $365.00 TO REPLACE THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH AND GUESS WHAT I FIXED IT WITH 3 PENNIES OF ELECTRICAL CLEANER SPRAY !!!! GOOD LUCK !!!! TRY IT !!! I BET IT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM !!!!
i replaced mine and the turn signal does not work. I did everything you did. is it possible that the new turn signal I installed is broken? if so how much is it to replace?
hey, i have a VW Bora (in brazil, but it's called city jetta in canada), mine does not have the Cruise control... what do i need to install it? i suppose that simply changing the turn signal arm to one with the cruise control buttons wouldn't work, right? should i buy a module or anything else?
Hi Gabriel, 3 months later. So I hope this helps. As far as I known your car should at least have an electronic throttle pedal. Also as far as I can tell, on a TDi it should be almost plug and play. On most petrol cars its a bit more complicated. Hope this helps!
+Alan t it can be done need to install the switch and the appropriate wiring to the PCM, and turn on the cruise in the PCM with your handy VAG-COM...........or visit the dealer to have it turned on.
