    This problem always occurs in this type of car. The problem is the broken bolts. Thank you very much for the efforts

    How did you turned it at the on position?

  • @ukcitizen1158
    @ukcitizen1158 Рік тому +7

    That issue is inherent to that specific barrel, very common.
    FYI Luis:
    That Shizzel you used to tap the Security Bolts is actually called a Punch ❤

    Happened to me on a seat Leon.
    Did same as u. Took barrel off, drilled into the barrel same as urself. Broken bits inside. Took them out and reassembled.
    When u start the car the key returns from the start/crank position. Once the car is started, Normally you cannot go to start/crank position until u turn the key completely to off. The mechanism that stops u accidentally cranking the engine when it is started was the bit that had broken and bits were jamming the key

    Just fixed one of these in a caddy. Key sticking. It wasn’t the lock barrel or the key but the cast mechanism - changed it (£15 ebay) and all sorted. Didn’t have to remove the airbag or steering wheel - just used a punch to remove the security screws.

    Thank you so much for the super informative and thorough video! My VW GOLF is now having exactly the same problem, your video has helped me understand the situation much better!
    I have two questions though: 1. At 8:06, you can turn that thing with the screwdriver freely without any problem, but why at 9:03, you cannot turn that thing with the screwdriver any more (because of the steering lock?). I wonder what made the difference?
    2. at 6:52, you said "finally managed to get this out". Could I ask how you actually managed to get the key to rotate to "on" position though? Did you just keep hitting the barrel with a hammer? Or did you do sth else?
    Thank you so much in advance!

      Hi
      I kept hitting it, and trying until it moved.
      The reason why it stopped moving later, as I said on the video, was because what was in there loose inside the lock, ended up moving and jamming the lock again...
      Remember that at this point, I haven't had the lock removed or opened... if you have watched the entire video you have seen what it was...
      👍👍👍

    Thanks for that, I had the exact same problem this morning except the steering wheel stays unlocked with the key off. Apart from that, couldn't turn on or off without applying a lot of force, but I now have it to the point where it's OKish to turn it on and off without too much force. I'll have to investigate further but I'm sure something snapped inside like yours and is messing with locking/unlocking.

      @@LMAutoRepairs well yeah, after a few turns it got stuck again. Removing the mech from the car was not a big deal (except for these security bolts...) but I didn't remove the steering wheel or airbag. Pushing the plastic tab from underneath once the mech is unbolt indeed works. What I REALLY struggled with was removing the lock barrel... I could insert a rod/paperclip in the hole but it would never activate the latch. I had to drill a hole in the shell to then push the latch from the outside. Even with the barrel out, I can't activate the latch with the paperclip... Anyways, it broke in the exact same place as yours, but the small rod that goes in the steering lock is flattened / lost its spring so I think the spring on that small rod breaks, allows the small rod to stick out further and goes sideways / gets jammed / breaks the pieces around the opening it goes through. Not sure what this small rod is for, I'm yet to re-assemble and try to re-use the old mech, but I have a new non-genuine one. I'll try to fix the genuine one as the aftermarket's quality doesn't look great at all and I don't want to take everything apart again in 1 year when it breaks.

    • @encapsulated
      @encapsulated Рік тому +1

      Turns out that small pin serves no functional purpose, maybe an extra anti tampering measure? I also drilled the black tab to remove the small tab that goes in once you remove the long rod, put everything back together and it works 100% now!

    Have the exact same problem but in a 2.0TSI, 2013 155kw5N Tiguan 7spd Auto. So if the same part is worn/broken in mine and I reassemble, the only difference is that I will be able to remove the key when the Auto selector is in D, R, N and P?

      Thank you for watching and follow the channel!...
      Can you communicate with all the modules?
      Is the immobiliser seeing the key in the ignition?
      Is the key transponder OK and transmitting?
      Have you checked fuses etc?
      You need to do a the checkes to narrow down the problem, otherwise it is impossible to make any calls...

      Yes we have checked all the fuses in the engine compartment and under steering column and all seems to be good. Not seeing flashing immobiliser light but it shows immobiliser active. I have a autel maxisys MS906 which I run a diagnostic check, came up with several fault codes inc ‘01176.008 key implausible signal active/static’. We tried clearing but it keeps coming back. Our machine cannot retrieve the pin to reactivate the immobiliser.
