    Hydrate first. Wet inside and out and place in sealed plastic bag. Leave that way for a day. Then insert shoe trees and proceed with heating and smoothing (if by then even necessary). Apply a leather conditioner before a surface wax: Neatsfoot oil or Lexol. They will soften the hide and enable the leather to relax more easily, reducing future wrinkles.

    Ordered the heat gun after seeing this video and just rehabbed about half a dozen shoes that I was ready to write off. Now I regret tossing a few pairs that I believed to be beyond the point of no return as it’s clear to see after a proper polish and perhaps a re-heeling here and there, that my shoes definitely look almost new again. Even saved a couple of very expensive trainers...Thrilled! Thanks! Saved thousands really when adding up the cost it would have been to replace them.

    So I tried this on my WHITE doc martens, I want to share my experience in case anyone else has white leather, so I used an iron on extremely low heat and I put a damp towel between the iron and my shoes so the iron didn’t directly touch it, I was VERY VERY careful, like I used minimal heat and I checked it a lot to make sure I wasn’t burning it, I want to share this to say it is possible, but you have to be soooooo extremely careful, like SUPER careful when doing, it might be best to just leave it because there is a good chance you will mess up your shoes and like I put the iron on low and then turned it off and waited before using it so the heat would be very very low, so it’s possible but I wouldn’t recommend (and I didn’t burn my shoes)

    • @quill404
      @quill404 3 роки тому

      Thank you Ty! Do you mean add the cream before? Usually, if you dry something in an extreme manner after it gets wet/moist etc it can crack. @@theshoesnob_official My Company dress code doesn't require any shoes, lots of folk (office based) in a senior engineering capacity at a major telecom company. However my Dad always told me when I started work in the office environment - "A Soft Collared or Stiff Collared shirt, dress trousers or Chinos and smart shoes that are polished". It's a mantra that I've been using throughout my working life and it's about 27 years I've been working. Some folk in my office think i'm quirky having shoes at £140 or so however these guys are wearing trainers that are more expensive than that. You can's sole and hell a trainer!! so a good pair of leather shoes from one of the established shoemakers will last 10-15 years. Since there's extra space around the toe, I'm worried trying this will mis-shape the shoe because when I press it down over the shoe tree, it won't sit tight ovet the wood.

    Will this work on Doc Martens? I have an old pair of Doc Martens from my dad but they are all wrinkled

      Not if the Doc Martens are coated. But if they are a full grain calf then yes it would

    This don’t work at all, I tried the method from your website of soaking in hot water then the horn. Putting it next to the heater. That lasted a good while before creasing again.

      Stuff socks or balled up paper in your shoes. It should accomplish the same thing.

      Proper shoe trees have a spring inside, so that when you insert it into the shoe, it expands lengthwise to pull the leather taut.

    do i need to remove all waxes before heating my shoe?

  • @devilzwishbone
    @devilzwishbone Рік тому

    so in short apply heat and smooth out. If you have a bathroom heater you can just place them underneath them as tbey can heat up hotter than a hairdryer

    • @theshoesnob_official
      @theshoesnob_official  Рік тому

      I would not suggest doing as you state. The heat should be for short periods of time and to a direct place, hence the heat gun and/or a hair dryer.
