I hope you enjoy the video! 😀 You might also enjoy my video on how to write a persuasive essay or speech: ua-cam.com/video/tOpu16DOYC0/v-deo.html And I'd love to hear how you use the modes of persuasion in your writing. Do you tend to use one more than the others?

Interesting and hepful, thank you. It prompts me to think about re-reading Robert Pirsig's "Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance: an enquiry into values" as a teacher of philosophy and rhetoric, a lucid exposition to Pirsig's son in nightly instalments on a joint motorcycle expedition. "Rhetoric" now has a bad name denoting hypocrisy, mainly in politicians: "empty" is the adjective most often found with "rhetoric". But in ancient Greece, Rhetoric used to be a central feature in philosophy and central to any serious education: which persisted until the Middle Ages in Scholasticism. It was something akin to what we might now call epistemology -- standards for how we derive and recognise knowledge. This cannot be done without looking at modes of communication, persuasion and negation, and the kinds of logic and values they trade in.

Thank you for your comment, Gabriel! I have not read that book. Thanks for the recommendation! And I definitely agree about the importance of studying rhetoric, both to be able to express one's ideas logically and persuasively and also to be able to analyze the arguments of others.
