Damon Knight's advice is solid, I picked up a 40 year old unused copy on thriftbooks and enjoy leaving my own notes in the generous margins.

What a wonderful video. And the books referenced are excellent. The 'I remember...' prompt is what I am using, as I'm trying to shake loose memories from forty+ years ago. I love Bradbury's advice on the word association too - an old Bradbury fan here.

I knew this was going to be a great video as soon as I heard Gnossienne when discussing mood. That’s literally the song I’m using to help me establish the mood for an entire trilogy. Also I tried to pick a favorite but I couldn’t 🤷‍♂️ these were all so helpful. Thank you!

Thank you! Erik Satie's music is fantastic. Excellent choice for your trilogy! All the best with your writing.

Ray Bradbury could literally write about the phonebook and it would sound amazing...

Just as those who opined before me, I like all five ideas. I'm most intrigued by Damon Knight's tip. The narrator's mood completely colors how they see everything. I think the most challenging tip is George R.R. Martin's about writing dialogue for different kinds of people. It isn't easy to get out of my head but these tips already have my creativity piqued! Many thanks, Nicole.

Happy to hear you enjoyed the writing exercise! I really like the George R. R. Martin one too. There are so many things to consider about what will affect a character's voice: age, occupation, education, and so much more. Thanks for watching!
