Wow Neo is doing so good now I love getting to see him smile so big and hear him trying to talk as well. I’m deaf on my right side completely and I understand how frustrating it can be when you have no idea who’s talking to you or what they might be saying either one but you guys are so lucky to have a child as sweet as Neo and Abella as well if you ever need a baby sitter I’d definitely volunteer to do so for you
I am also deaf on my right side with hearing loss on my left. I have worn a hearing aid on my left since I was 5. I just turned 64. My twin has nodes how to sign and his hearing is perfect. My sister who is 15 months older than us can can lip read me perfectly and I can as well back to her. We would have conversations across the way if we needed to say something without anyone else being able to say it. My mom. Dad and another older sister have no idea how to lip read or talk. Just Sandy and me have this ability.

Just some advice from a fellow deaf person. Talk normally when he doesn’t have his CI’s on. Over emphasizing your lips makes it harder to lipread. Because it distorts the way the lip naturally move when you talk. And also lip reading is very exhausting after awhile. Neo is so amazing with how far he has come. Definitely keep using ASL with him. You would not believe how useful that is. Or how much it means to those who do not have a CI to be able to talk with them in their language, our language. It is awesome that you all are still learning ASL. Neo is going to be able to say he knows 2 languages from a very young age.
For us who have been following them for awhile, the feeling of happiness with Neo's improvement is tremendous! ❤️❤️

I loved it when he copied you, but when you were saying to many words, he let you know he couldn't hear you by touching his ears, and going to get his Cochlear implants, he's so smart! Can somebody let me know what papush means, I asked a couple of times but I never got an answer! 💗
Pupush is Neo's nickname. It started as PaPas but became Pupush
I'm so glad Neo can lip read as well. Its important to have a backup if his CI breaks or just when he is not wearing it. Not everyone knows ASL.
That's exactly why every family with deaf kid should learn sign language, because deaf kids have the right to know and learn their own culture. People can't always expect deaf people to rely on lip reading because lip reading is harder than you think (I mean, try putting on a headphone with blast music on and try to lip read, then you know how hard it is). It's easier if everyone would just learn sign.
