Ebay fees have become a crock, PayPal included. Then you gotta pay income taxes on the payouts. So you end up loosing like crazy in the end. Totally not worth it anymore, greedy politicians.
Millions stopped using ebay in the last few years, reporting private persons selling their personnel things to be taxed as income, over charging on their fees, scamming buyers/sellers.
AND, if you sell over $600 tax, shipping included for the YEAR you're gonna get 1099'd on that "income". The old threshold was $20,000 in gross sales or like 250 items sold, you'd be considered a business. Needless to say I don't sell on ebay anymore.
It's a haven for stolen equipment. I had 5 saws stolen and found all on eBay. Police involvement, eBay notified, seller confronted. All still sold to places unknown except for my Jonsered 2171, that I actually bought back.
The shipping fees, the PayPal rules, the taxes etc. I rarely use it now. Eg, an €8 CD can cost up to €25 for shipping! I stopped selling on it years ago and I’ll only buy from sellers that offer low price shipping.

They charge fees on shipping because people would list items for $1 and shipping would be $200. I believe they should be charging tax based on the location the item is shipped to. However, looks like they probably just picked the highest sales tax in the country and use that as the standard. It is difficult to program in all the state and local taxes per jurisdictions in the country. Many cities have additional taxes above the state tax. They make their own rules and as they keep getting worse, the fees will increase and due to less traffic. Also, even if you indicate the saw is junk, parts only, etc….with buyer protection, the buyer can complain about anything and eBay will side with the buyer and go into your bank account and pull the funds the buyer wants back. There is no negotiation- they get what they want. Sold 2 items on eBay, never again after my second sale. They ended taking 1/4 of the sale.
The worst part is if the buyer claims "item not as described" and then you have to pay shipping to get the item back and refund the buyer, and you lose all your profits.
I have come to view things as a consumer that if the item your wanting to sell is not worth more that $500 it's simply a throw away item, unless you can trade said item with someone for something you want. When your time and maybe a few parts(dollars spent) are needed for an item to make it whole and useful is worth less than $500, in this day and age it is simply not worth the time and effort to sell it.
I just sold my first saw on eBay and my last. I put a reserve on it and didn’t know it was going to be a $40 fee. I’m just going to eat it and keep it at this point

if you are commercial seller then eBay is expensive. For private use its without any fees. WIth this knowing you have to add all of these fees and taxes on top of what you want to earn and then calculate the prize you have to ask for at the ebay auction

Yup, they tax you hard. Nothing like paying a 13% fee on the the sale, shipping and tax. I only sell on ebay if I absolutely have to and then I mark it up around 20% compared to selling locally. The saws still sell.

Never a shortage of folks dreaming up ways to take what you’ve earned. Can’t blame them. No money in working for a living. I guess it could be worse. You could have ran a jackhammer for 10hrs in the hundred degree heat, only to have them take 60% of your paycheck for one scheme or another that you didn’t ask for and won’t benefit from, drive an hr there and an hour back using $50 in fuel plus another $50 in wear and tear and vehicle costs and once you get home you just want a beer and a steak that now costs more than you came home with! The strange part is we shame kids these days for not wanting to work for the same money we made in the 80’s. Wish I had an answer but one thing is a certainty, as long as we keep voting for they same folks we always have regardless of which side of the isle they stand on, nothing will change. That saw is worth $350-$450 in good condition like yours. What other 70cc saw can you buy for $400? I was blown away it sold for $250. And eBay sucks….for sellers.
I'm was being charged 109 dollars for revising my saw 2 times then I just took it off and they charged me again so told them I'm deleting my account and they dropped all the charges just crazy of I was not paying attention to my account I would have got screwed over

But like the guy that knocked up the prom queen, not me.. The guy in the beginning of Idiocracy.. Some guy is going to happen around it at the right time and get it. I’m just not wasting my time watching it. Guy thinks he’s gonna get rich. A lot of these storage locker and estate sale flippers are gonna learn, so they can later complain, but not on my time. I already know the bar studs and complete top end are junk.. I would only contemplate buying a clone basically for the cases. I know they need a studs carb jug and piston out of the gate. These guys wasting their time on these china copy carbs make me laugh and frustrated at the same time. Like what do you expect? But it’s not like 365’s and 372’s are common. I sell used parts on ebay because it has the most exposure to buyers. If you wanna play you gotta pay. I see a lot of whole saws go for cheap and I know the sellers are not happy. It takes time and effort but stripping and flipping can yield much higher profits than selling whole.

I sold a knife for over $41. The buyer paid for shipping. I ended up receiving 10$! What a scam! Never again!
