I'm a 49 year veteran long haul driver, and I say you pass. You get it! Most new drivers can't believe that a truck can shift this fast, and they try to shift slow. Slow shifting a truck will never work, but you get it, and shift it at it's correct fast speed. I float most gears going up and down on my Peterbilt 18 speed, but I can show you a better way to use the clutch if you want. I call it partial clutching. You take it out of gear with no clutch, and then clutch it into the next gear. Of course it is very fast, and much easier. Half the work of double clutching. Taking it out of gear with no clutch is a bit of a steep learning curve at first, but very easy once you get the hang of it. The secret is to preload the stick for a half second. No more! You do not want to wear out the shift forks. You should be able to pull it out with two fingers. At the correct moment as you let off the throttle the transmission will let go (losen) and it will fall out of gear, and quick, into the next one. So, to review. To do this you cannot be accelerating or decelerating, but rather right in-between. I have videos for this if you like. I'm a driver trainer, and I always enjoy it when new students finally get it. Good to see a young lady pull this off. You go girl!

I do it exactly opposite. I tap the clutch to relieve torque, take it out if gear, and drop it into the next gear as I come off the clutch to match engine RPM for the gear selected. Or, about half the time, if I use the clutch at all, I just double clutch like you are supposed to.
Everyone thinks they know the way... I'll stick with what I was told by an Eaton Mechanic! After starting out in whatever gear (1,2,or 3 depending on weight) you clutch in about an inch to pull out of gear, release clutch. Then repress clutch in about an inch and move it to next gear at around 1400 to 1500 rpm's (of course, on a Cummins). Only time I will float is on the highway, whether up-shifting or down-shifting.

Very nice to watch. I'm from Europe (Netherlands), our trucks are so different. Outside and inside! I would like very much to drive a KW or Peterbilt some day. I have my full license, but I'm a busdriver at the moment. Driving busses from 12m - 22m and doubledeckers and like it very much. Weirdest thing: In Europe most cars are handshifted and busses and trucks are automatics. And the way around in Canada/USA, I know. In the old days the trucks were handshifted, but the new ones are almost always automatic. Automatic cars are upcoming however, but when I watch videos about your trucks, also the new ones, they're all handshifted. What I like also is that many Canadeans talk English AND French! I speak French as well, but not very well anymore, unfortunately. Have a good new year and many safe miles/kilometres!

A W900L is the ONLY classic truck left on the market today!! It is the BEST truck... PERIOD! *Edit:* After watching this for a bit, I can see she really doesn't know what she's doing. She just shifts, to shift. With a Cummins, you need to be shifting around 1400 - 1500 rpms. So, you glance at the tach and shift when appropriate. I can hear those little grinds, because she isn't shifting at the proper time, along with knowing your speed. It takes a while to get in the groove... Sometimes years.
It is fun shifting manual trucks, sad thing is they are about to disappear at least here in Sweden. Any new Scania and Volvo comes standard with auto gearboxes.
Shifting is fun, no gears is comfort. American trucks are cool, European trucks are efficient. American cars are automatic since long time, American trucks have gears. Where’s the logic?
The powers that be are getting rid of manuals everywhere across the Earth! Anytime there's something good, they'll take it away. They think that manual transmissions pollute the air. How hilarious is that?? They can make a point out of anything but the elitist pricks that run the s*** show that we live in are nothing but the elite morons!!
Beautiful truck with a fantastic engine and transmission. I think you have chosen a very good truck. The only thing that I suggest to you is that you should get used to Fasten your seat belt before you start driving. I wish you good luck and a Happy New Year.

Nice truck, even though I wish the Cats were still available. This is my 32nd year of driving and you can have all the crowded places up your way... lol I pulled windmill blades for a couple of years after many years of heavy-haul, but now run winch trucks in the North Dakota/Montana oilfield (making more money than windmill blades, which is backwards). 18-speeds aren't so useful for highway trucks but work well out here where we pull some steep terrain in the badlands. Tri-drives are common here, as well, with even more "lower gears"... Not to lecture but that seat belt might well save your life, for I've seen the aftermath of bodies under trucks or thrown through windshields (won't lecture more lol)... Be safe out there and enjoy it all while you can, for time passes fast! :)

So, you glance at the tach and shift when appropriate. I can hear those little grinds, because she isn't shifting at the proper time, along with knowing your speed. It takes a while to get in the groove... Sometimes years.
Again! It was MY FIRST TIME DRIVING THAT TRUCK !!!!!!!!!!
@@DaisyPurpleFlower Lol..
Yes and never ever open a hood from the side. Good way to ruin the hinges in the front
Do you have a better way to suggest?
J’aimerais y retourner.
😉
Good girl, I'm glad she's not driving a sissymatic 😊
Thanks Thomas ☺️😉
Cooler Truck und eine coole Frau ❤❤❤
Thank you very much !😃😊💜
It is fun shifting manual trucks, sad thing is they are about to disappear at least here in Sweden. Any new Scania and Volvo comes standard with auto gearboxes.
I know, it's awful! Unfortunately there's nothing we can do about it, I guess.
Thank you for your comment Mr. Jokkoma 🙂 It's always a pleasure ! ☺️
Scania and Volvo are nothing but garbage!!
Thank you for your comment. ☺️
There is pros and cons about wearing a seat belt in a big rig btw. So, my choice ✌️
@@DaisyPurpleFlower $200-300 + 3 points and explain to your employer - your choice.

Yep, no problem. 😉✌️
ca fait changement des trucks a Rosedale... et en passant un W900 ça ne ce fait plus automatique.
Oui en effet, ça fait changement et je me suis gâter à conduire ce camion là 😉
nice ride.
Thanks 😃😊😉
Nobody wears seatbelts anymore i guess..
😉
That wouldn't look good on camera I reckon ?
Yes but also it's hard to move with the seat belt.

Hello. Nice video. Keep it up.
Thank you ! 😃 It's very kind of you. ☺️
Don't shift so fast and hard. I know the transmission oil is cold but take it easy on your shifting
I don't drive that way when I'm hauling a load. ✌️
Merci!, Beautiful rig :)

Well done, ma'am, that was great. Just change the camera position so you don't get distracted. 👍🏼

Hello from Brazil!! Nice Truck.
Thanks ☺️💜
I like watching you drive drone would be different content sometimes ❤
Yes for sure! I'm still learning how "to drone". Be patient. 😉
Thank you for your comment. 💜
Thank you very much Johnnie for sharing this with us. It's very interesting. 😃
For the seat belt, I always forget to use it when I make a video. Also I do local deliveries so I have to stop very often and I do very short drives so I lost the habit to use it. Shame on me. 🤦♀️
Thanks again for your comment, I appreciate it a lot. ☺️💜
