Tbh the orginal ending for project WHAT is disturbingly cool but you know-an entire trilogy slays so hard. Project WHAT has my heart even if I’ve never read it LOL. I actually have pretty similar processes lol. I built up my most-developed trilogy book by book until realizing that it wasn’t very streamlined and had to rework all the lore and replan the entire trilogy to get it fixed. That was completely on me bc i always knew it was going to be a trilogy, i was just too lazy to actually outline it fully and worked book by book until karma hit me LOL. I finally learned and outlined my superhero trilogy before wrriting it haha. Currently in act 3 of book 2 and it’s going well but we’ll see what happens lolz
