    That white cop did what he did because he could. He knew there would be few or no consequences. Can we please just stop the BS train

    I want to read the book. The bar is high and hype even higher, I hope the book does not disappoint.

    I need to buy this book! I always knew that people get wrong impressions because I come off emotionless etc. I try not to jump to many conclusions when I first meet people and how they act. It's something that I've had to learn. I think this book would be an excellent read and very insightful!

    I've found that, rather than change who someone is, alcohol is very revealing as to the imbiber's true character.

    Hmm..I’m having a reaction to this interview. Long fan of Malcolm
    Gladwell, but this interview left me confused. Some problematic things were said.

      Let's talk, what do you think was problematic? In my opinion this is one of the most vague generalizations I have heard from Mr. Gladwell. Broadstroking is an slippery slope.

      I concur .. this author's view totally vexes my spirit in his speaking on as well as in his thoughts and motivation on why he wrote this book. I saw numerous interviews from him now on the topic of this book. In my opinion he has this bubbling undertone of over simplification of what is blatantly obvious in certain cases such as Sandra Bland which he says was the premise of this book. His perverbial "dance around" is nauseating to me on many levels. One thing is clear for me ... Rasism doesn't require deep thinking and eloquent speeches...

      Gladwell goes into incredible detail about the Sandra Bland case in his book. This clip was not an interview- it was part of a publicity tour designed to get people interested enough to read the book he is selling. For more information, just search his name with the book title "Talking To Strangers" and you can find interviews and lectures that go more than an hour. Of course his short responses were oversimplifications- that's why he had to write an entire book to explain what all went wrong in the tragedy of Sandra Bland.

    People with very small worlds, living "inside their own circle", in their bubble, not interested in anything outside of their own world, their direct surroundings, those can never be, never become real humans. But then again, take an objective look at your 'Mericuh, what kind of people it creates, and ask yourselves: was it ever humane, human worthy, normal human behavior, human's own. It's not. You are the ones who distance yourselves and your world from the rest of the humanity. You're in the wrong. You are floating on your own island, and you are afraid that if you walk one step too far, you'll fall off of that island.

    The issue is not talking to strangers. Today if your white everyone outside your race is an enemy. To people who are not gay of all races your an enemy or this person may try something with me and for some strange reason people get mean and dangerous when it comes to anyone who doesn’t look like them or meet their expectations of how you should look, dress or act. This is all mostly related to whites. Most non White humans have experienced some form of discrimination so WE tend to be more open and inviting to others of a different race. We are not strangers we’re all humans and God intended us to look, speak, dress, eat, worship and to be different in many ways from a disability to our sexual orientations. We are not strangers. Simply treat people with love, kindness and respect.

    This guy is a smooth operator but his arguments are ludicrous. He simply does not understand how white supremacy works in the USA. Here’s why: Black people do not not have a stranger culture but white people do.
    The field of modern western psychology is predicated on Freudian analysis which was developed to serve European needs and not African ones.
    As late as the 1980’s both black and brown peoples were in a pitched battle to remove the most egregious aspects of white supremacy from the field of psychology. The battle is still ongoing. Now we are supposed to believe that he has the 411 on interactions between black and white peoples? Seriously? These are just some ideas he made up they don’t reflect reality. SMH........

    That bit about the humans not being able to tell if someone is lying does not hold true for everyone.

    • @FTLNewsFeed
      @FTLNewsFeed 5 років тому

      I'm not sure what you mean. The research shows us that humans are not good at spotting liars, we think that facial cues are important, we rely on incorrect gut feelings. We're just not good at doing it.

      He talks about the exceptions, but that is exactly his point, people like that are exceptions and not the rule.
