More than one person commented saying 禁じ手あり means that forbidden moves are allowed, which is not the case. Hopefully this will help some Japanese learners: 禁じ手あり = 禁じ手がある, literally: There are forbidden moves (there are moves that are forbidden = forbidden moves are not allowed) 禁じ手なし = 禁じ手がない, literally: There are no forbidden moves (there are no moves that are forbidden = forbidden moves are allowed) Practical examples: ua-cam.com/video/a08PClSQWMs/v-deo.html Sora tells Miko and Subaru she has been practicing against the やばい CPU with 禁じ手なし ua-cam.com/video/LH0YfgRLHcM/v-deo.html The practice in question, here you can see Sora set all the forbidden moves to ゆるす (allow)
I feel like just saying "There are forbidden moves" works better, since "Forbidden moves are not allowed" is basically a tautology (I understand that these moves might be forbidden in a more specific sense, like "moves that are forbidden [in a standard competitive ruleset]", but for a person unaware of that context "forbidden is allowed/not allowed" just sounds silly)
For context, Kanade ended up playing with Nakayama Tomoharu 7 dan, professional renju (competitive gomoku narabe) player and ranked 3rd in Japan (and even finished 3rd in 2023 world championship). This was absolutely the final boss. Fitting opponent to end the stream.
That was very well executed from the opponent. The scariest moves aren't when they make a 3 or 4, but is instead when they are setting up an eventual 4-3 some turns later if not stopped.
The crux is "timing" attacks where there's many, many threats that you didn't check properly early on that coincide (and as soon as you "have" to put 2 pieces on the same turn, you lose) have to circle around and count moves like in Go, but it's much easier If you make knight's moves and don't create threats, you're giving your opp free turns.

japanese ranks are split between Kyuu and Dan it basically goes from 25th Kyuu -----> 1st Kyuu ---> 1st Dan ----> 9th Dan onwards. Dan is a 'professional' cut off point. Another commentor said dude is ranked 3rd in Japan, won 3rd place in 2023 championship. I didn't double check but it sounds legit.
Nice clip, but imo Instead of highlighting the diagonal heading towards top left, you should've highlighted the vertical path that crosses the horizontal line, since that middle part where Kanade placed her piece would've been the next move if she blocked the initial attack. The other highlighted path is never going to be a winning path, nor does it contribute in a winning path
I assume they highlighted that diagonal because it's what meant she "already lost" at 2:08 (though her opponent ended up ultimately going a different route, if they made a 4 in a row at 3:08, those diagonal pieces would've been instrumental)
@@NhatAnhPhamDr There's a thin line between calculated moves and reckless ones man. I'd rather avoid that risk and settle the game with 2 winning moves at most.
Gomoku is a game where the first mover has a major advantage. If you can't push the first mover into a defensive position right from the get go, and it will be very hard to come back.
I love seeing the girls finds their niche with the most random thing. Like, who knew Ollie would be good at chess? Who knew Azki would be good at GeoGuessr? Who knew Kanade would be good at freakin gomoku of all things?
cut off enemy set up and looking for surprise counter is how you win on white, her second move is already a weak defense move, but the fact that she keep refuse to cut off that important position on her 5th move just seal the game, now the enemy have too much set up by taking that position
Any worthwhile defence requires some 'attack' or 'threat' in the first place. The issue with her strategy is that she 'defends' early attacks without building up her own threats. Basically the opponent could safely ignore her and just keep on the offense. An example would be at 1:28, where the opponent has 4 pieces, all of which are 'connected', and 2 of diagonals ended up being part of the winning sequence. On the other hand, Kanade similarly has 4 pieces on the board, but they're all spaced out by a knight's move, none of them could ever connect to each other.
禁じ手あり means there are forbidden moves. In other words "forbidden moves are indeed forbidden", or if we turn it into more natural English "the rules regarding forbidden moves apply". 禁じ手なし would mean "there are no forbidden moves", meaning restrictions for forbidden moves do not apply.
