It was because if you already had a tie fighter, this would remind you that Vader didn't fly a regular tie and you would want to get this one. Maybe.

I looked online but can’t remember where I read it from. There’s also Vader’s head on the early full size Vader tie box. It was originally going to be a “collectors line of vehicles”. Vader’s tie fighter was the only vehicle they produced, before someone scrapped the idea , and just added it to the regular vehicle line. They then removed the “Collectors Series” text from above Vader’s head from the later boxes. They left the head because it was his starship. Maybe when they did the die cast run whoever was in charge of the card back print, looked at one of the early boxes and figured it was just part of the packaging. Not sure if that is the exact story, but it was something along those lines.

When Anakin became mostly machine, it affected his Force abilities, but I don't know if that's exactly why he had a targeting computor or if they went that far with it.
Another reason might be, maybe regular TIE pilots used this fighter and having a targeting computer is a standard feature and in a more refined TIE Advance that was strictly Darth Vader's there wouldn't be one.

After the printing of the cardback was nearly completed, the Darth Vader head was discovered and it was deemed to costly to go back, remove the head and do a reprint, so they just let it ride and the rest is history.

Except the same head appears on the full sized box as well...
If I was going to make up something like that, I would have said, "My dad was a production coordinator for Ben Cooper masks and told my brother that Vader was being promoted because they realized they had overproduced Halloween costumes featuring the character. They also didn't expect to sell as many since they went off bad Lucasfilm stills and put the white around the eyes. Dad's boss called up some buddies at Kenner and tried to get Vader imagery pushed just a little more on certain items. The company that made the pajamas also bought into the erroneous Vader pre-marketing skew."

That video game looks sweet. Maybe it was because Vader is awesome, and they wanted people to buy both TIE fighters. (Vader should have been in the AT-AT!) I like the regular TIE. I think they wanted people to buy both TIEs, and Vader is sweet. I wish Vader would have been in the AT-AT instead of Veers. Who cares about Veers (who kind of had two figures)? It seems the AT-ATs, which hold troopers, were sent after the generator just so Vader can land. Vader and Luke could have had a telepathy thing. I have several issues with the Hoth battle, though it's cool. It's maybe the weakest part of the OT. It's dull and silly while looking cool.
Also, Vader seems wrong when talking to Veers earlier. Lucas kind of made Vader look dumb and cowardly, though this clashes with the 77 movie. You have to think about it though.
The ESB is like a dream and fantasy (it has iffy logic), so it shouldn't be completely logical (the 77 SW, my favorite, is a legitimate Sci-Fi movie and mostly makes sense), but they should have put more work into making the Hoth battle more compelling and believable. I think we begin to see Lucas's weird decision making with it and the dumb edit at the end (though supposedly he was reluctant to do it). (RothJ has many more issues though.)
Why didn't Vader just send (special?) TIE Bombers??? He seems to want a sneak attack when talking to Veers. How can they do a sneak attack with giant walkers??? I guess the rebels haven't been on Hoth long, but this is unclear. I think Lucas wanted to spice the movie up with a Death Star like situation and sell (cool) toys. I'm not sure an on planet fighter battle would have worked though.
The AT-AT battle feels tagged on. In the original draft, tanks attack the base, and there isn't a battle. The battle is with the Wampas which is weird. In the movie, it's not clear how Vader blasts into the base.

    • @tomcruisenukedmyaccount5388
      @tomcruisenukedmyaccount5388 9 місяців тому

And I think they should have mentioned or showed the rebels have mobile robotic mines to kind of explain why the Empire uses AT-ATs. (EC Henry (awesome channel) tried another explanation related to shields which fits into the larger continuity, but it sounds like magic. Going by the 77 movie, I don't think the walkers going through the shields is an issue. RothJ changed the shields, and this was used in the prequel era.) The Hoth battle is too long and there should be three AT-ATs instead of five.
It's somewhat compelling, but I'm very happy when the movie gets back to Han and crew. There are other issues. It's very confusing what is attacking the base and where the base is, and it doesn't seem the Imperials need to destroy the generator except to help Vader land. It seems the rebels coincidentally have the cables, and it's not clear how they blow up the first AT-AT.
(Veers had more figures than Vader. I think the Imperial snow trooper and Emperor's guard costumes should be Sith related. The Hoth battle foreshadowed the noisy blockbusters we got in the 00s and 10s like Bayformers.)

    • @tperson8347
      @tperson8347 9 місяців тому +1

      @@tomcruisenukedmyaccount5388
The AT-AT blows up due to the snowspeeders shooting the neck of the walker.
The neck is always the most vulnerable spot. :)
The tow cables on the snowspeeders are common features left present, because these were domestic vehicles since the Rebels have very little in the way of support or funds, they had to use common airspeeders.
The few things they've added were canons and the vents on the the back in order to keep the airspeeder warm in the freezing temperatures.
The shields on Hoth, you can still drive a ship through, it just prevents bombardment just like in the start of the Naboo battle.

I think it needed to be downed to really sell the visage of the small victory, if that makes sense.
The way I see it, there are alot of jokes in Star Wars that make up the action, drama, and so forth that surrounds the core/true meaning of Star Wars.
Not that Lucas was going for straight comedy, it's that there are temporary limitations on every situation that characters are put in.
There's always an impromptu way of doing things when there's a particular challenge that set before the characters.

    I disagree on that.
That's more of a post prequel propaganda.
Luke SHOULD trust the Jedi, but I'm coming from the standpoint of original trilogy.
This might be unpopular, but I feel that Obi-Wan lying to Luke was necessary.
It would have compromised the whole thing to tell him the truth.
The galaxy depended greatly on Luke. He was their ONLY chance defeat the Empire.
But you gotta remember, Darth Vader wasn't Luke's father in the original Star Wars, so what Obi-Wan said wasn't a lie,
from a certain point of view. :)
No one really says much about Merlin's lies and mistakes.
I see this as the same thing, Obi-Wan made a mistake and he admitted it.
I resent that the way the Jedi order came off as corrupt as the Catholic Church, and that's not the case.
They're more so to blame for being arrogant in a time when they should've been staying alert and readying themselves. They were focused on the wrong thing and becoming more involved in politics than they should have.
Look at the way the prequel Jedi are address vs the way Luke is dressed.
Luke, Yoda, and Obi-Wan are dressed appropriately, the prequel Jedi were pretty much in costume.
That's one more thing that makes Anakin and Luke so similar and unique is that they actually earned their Knighthood, because they've done so in battle instead of just in ceremony.
Not all padawans have experienced battle to the same degree Anakin has.
Obi-Wan wouldn't have mentioned Qui-Gon whether he was a character yet or not. Any story or mentioning of Qui-Gon would've been irrelevant to Luke.
