I really appreciate you talking about the reality of your habits informing what you buy. I would love to be a Traveler's notebook girlie with all the inserts, planning tools, aesthetic layouts... but it really would be too much! I'd love to get in on the Hobonichi hype, but I fell out of using my Weeks for habit tracking, so planning isn't it, either. Really, I just like journaling whenever, maybe in a nice Japanese notebook or something from Walmart. Making stationery my end-of-day homework, or this whole system or series of books I lug around, is just so impractical. I'm not living a work-from-home traveling influencer life, and that's okay! You've saved me from some purchases here and made me consider other ones. Thank you!
I’m only a little way through and the information is great. I think if you had of just filmed your hands at the table and read I probably wouldn’t have even noticed you were reading a script. It’s lovely seeing your face and I understand you didn’t want to miss anything out.
thank you for your kind words! I also considered that as an option, but I really don’t like top down videos where it’s a bunch of talk with a static shot. I’m not sure if this was any better though😅 regardless, I’m glad you enjoyed it!!
@@papelesdeelib it would have been preferable to see the items up close like you had in some clips, instead of watching you read a script off sideways away from the camera which was a little far away. The information was great, just the presentation would be better focused on the items, since that was the topic of your video.
Every hobby has a price tag. Even walking. Eventually you’ll need shoes, or a water bottle. Really it’s what you use and how you it (or how often) that really matters. I’m not going to watch beyond 5 mins because I can already see our journaling and stationary journey is soo different. I don’t have hardly any of the items in any of the clips. But I love you put the time and effort to make this for those that need it.
I don't mind the scripting at all, in fact I prefer it to the overuse of "likes" and "ums" in other un-rehearsed videos! As an "older" person who has spent 30 years in a professional workplace delivering training and presentations, all those "likes" and "ums" make my ears bleed! I appreciate your efforts at improving your delivery! Also, loved your thoughtful analysis and cogent observations! I'll subscribe!
Oh wow, I've been relieved at how many people have been able to enjoy the video despite the reading, but it's cool to hear that you even PREFER it! I haaaate hearing the abundance of "um"s in my unrehearsed speech, even if I have videos without a script I always cut those out as much as I can lol. I appreciate your comment, and thank you for subscribing!🤗
@@papelesdeelib usually the "umms" subside as the presenter gets into content that they are excited about or confident about! Just friendly and excited to share!
I cannot even express how much I enjoyed this video 😂😂💖 watched all the way to the end with your blooper reel! first of all, the information was incredibly helpful (I can't count how many times I've been tempted by a TSL item but wondered if I'd actually end up liking its functionality!), and I love the format of going through the different categories of one 'worst purchase' item followed up by 'best purchase' items of that category ~ it made it so accessible to follow! You've inspired me to want to try something similar and to evaluate the items I have! not to mention how much I resonated with so many things that you said. but also, you are SO funny and it's such a joy to listen to and watch you talk about all of these stationery and stationery-adjacent items, with all the hilarious asides and other realtime bits and all of your personality coming through. loving your content and looking forward to watching more, both future and past videos! thank you so much for sharing! 💕
All of these incredibly kind words, I am so touched!! Thank you for watching all the way through the video and for your comment :') I was really self-conscious about uploading this one and the way that you've been able to point out so many aspects about it that you like makes me feel proud of it. I'm so happy to hear that you're liking the content here and that you're planning on sticking around, I hope my future vids can be as enjoyable for you as well!
Wonderful video! Your rationale for best / worst was thorough and thoughtful and very helpful. I'm so happy you were able to come back and complete this project.
Love the vid. It's always so strange to me that people from other country need to learn cursive and get the feel for fountain pens. In my country, you start with cursive and in first grade once your handwriting is deemed "good enough" by the teacher, they give you your first fountain pen (which you're expected to write with all of primary school). It's kind of a rite of passage, graduating from pencil to fountain pen.
Awesome video! I tracked my stationery purchases for a couple years. I think a good finale to your video would have been to add it all up and see how much money was spent on "losers" vs. "winners", because I think that is one major takeaway from an exercise like this! And for me, I also factor in if I was able to sell something to recoup costs. The final $ total is a great way to encourage more mindful purchases. :) p.s. great bloopers, I use to do youtube and remember how hard it is, aaaack!
omg that's such a good idea...we ARE almost at the end of the year so I have a whole new year of data I can do that with for the next video like this ¨̮ That is the one thing that makes me feel alright about spending so much on stationery, is that it's usually easy to sell and make back at least some of the money. I haven't had any luck with the TSL cover though:( This video format was ESPECIALLY difficult too, because I felt so awkward😅 but I'm glad the bloopers could be amusing!
So glad that your video popped up in my sidebar. This was such an interesting video about stationary. I have ALWAYS loved stationary, thanks to my mom and Sanrio products, but it gets REALLY expensive, This month I've found myself being over influenced and bought waaaay more than needed. Your realistic take on why you purchased something or how you ended up using it when the original purpose didn't work out, was so refreshing! Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you friend! The intro was a lot of work but I really hope to be able to make more like that in the future 'cause it was also a lot of fun and I do love the end product :')
Great video. The warping on the box can be fixed. It happened to mine. Put a really heavy book on top and leave it for at least 3 months. Wood needs to acclimate and honestly they should have told you that when you bought it. Doing that when you first got it and letting it acclimate would have eliminated any issues. This happens with any fine wood that comes from a different climate. 😊. Hope that helps. It will go back to the way it was.
This was a fun video. I tracked all my stationery/hobby purchases in 2023 and had a come to Jesus moment when I tallied everything up and it came to $3,500 😅 I've bought very little this year in comparison and have decided to be very very intentional when buying things. I plan to do even better with my spending in 2025. It feels better to appreciate and use what i have. I appreciate your honest review on the TSL pennroll you're the second person ive watched whose brought up the cons and ive decided not to spend the excessive money on it.
I don't even want to say how fast I spent that amount of money...I fell SO HARD into this hobby. I've also spent a lot less in my second year. However, I did spend a few hundred on a camera and some different kinds of microphones and tripods for UA-cam😅 That part about appreciating what you have is so so real though! Like developing a relationship with your tools that most serve you. It's so nice. I see secondhand TSL pen rolls that COULD be a nice purchase if you store "regular" pens, but then it feels kind of weird to store something unremarkable in an expensive case. I truly do wonder what TSL was thinking of when they came up with the product.
Excellent advice !! We can learn from what not to buy first. Stencils and stamping are great. I don’t buy stamps because I worry about the ink getting on something.
Write nice things about “yourself” on your mini letters. That way you still have them to enjoy. After a year, you can reuse by reading them again. We all need to remember what are strengths are. To be sure not to get discouraged in those times when things aren’t going smoothly.
This is a fantastic video! I'm so glad you came back to finish it. 💜 I didn't expect to watch the entire thing but you had such great advice that I kept coming back after every interruption of my evening.
I loved this video as someone who is just starting out with fountain pens, stationery, and journaling. I laughed out loud several times because it felt like I was being called out either for purchases I’ve made or have been wanting to make 😂. But it also helped me to rethink some things.
I adore your energy. Thank you for refocusing my head space in what I think I need. I am 4 years stationary obsessed and am finally figuring out my style.
This is so fun! I LOVE my sailor Shikiori brush pens because they’re the only brush pens I owned for a long time. I don’t brush letter. I just color with them. I reach for them more than the few Tombows I own. 12:20 when I first got my passport TN, I didn’t like it. But now I can’t live without it! That’s my favorite TN! ❤ 13:54 I love my medium delfonics pouch for travel! But yeah-I know my system and I know what I need and what I don’t need to bring with me for travel. I also use it to keep everything journal wise together and out of toddler hands. 😅
This is such an awesome video!! You explained exactly how I’ve felt with this hobby. I got rid of a lot of things I don’t use and now I intentionally buy what i need and will benefit me. Great video and such a value for the stationary and fountain pen enthusiast. 🙌🏾👏🏾
Love this video! I did a stationery no buy for a year because of falling down the consumerism rabbit hole. I'm also so happy it's being discussed more now
This was such a great video. I was sitting trying to organize my own planner hoard wondering how I ended up with all this stuff I barely use even though I love my little planners. I have tried so many things and keep being influenced by people who use things that work great for them. I am just not going to do things even though I really admire what others do. Thank you so much for this video, so clever!
Great video! I love your lists of best and worst purchases. It reminded me to keep in mind that I won't necessarily like everything that other people like, and that's okay. It's better for my sanity (and my wallet) to examine why I want something and really go for only the things that resonate with me. Thanks for sharing!
Travelers notebooks are great. I like the passport size best. Either size is a great place to start. However the best place for me to start is the passport size bullet journal. The best system for beginners IMO.
Fantastic video, all the information packed here are worth at least 5 videos LOL. I appreciate the balance between the visual content and information provided, which is quite a difficult task, keep me engaged till the end.😊
I think for 2025 I'll follow your lead and dedicate.a notebook to my stationery spending. I spent way too much this year. Ive been using my Delfonics bag as a purse, but i think I'll switch to using it for my "not everyday carry" stuff. Things i dont want to search all over for, but only use occasionally.
This came at the right time because I'm literally taking inventory of my over spending after getting into stationery a year and a half now. Funny enough, my best and worst are the opposite from you in the beginning LOL. I love watercoloring and actually have a Koi set. I didn't end up using my hobonichi stencil, pochito stamps, or paintable stamps much at all.
Mini-cards make excellent gift tags. Just write a sweet message, punch a hole at the top, and attach with ribbon or string (or even attach with washi). Lots of people that I know keep these little tags, and not just as ephemera for their own journals.
Fantastic video! Seriously. You touched on so many pluses and pitfalls that I’ve never heard in one place. I started howling laughing at your very first “regret” item, the koi watercolors, because I did the same thing back in 2015! 😂
Lovely video! The pops on the microphone were quite annoying, I'm glad it got fixed after the intro. I love the idea of writing down the stationery purchases, I'll start doing it too!
hahaha oh yes, I made that when I was still getting accustomed to using such a high-quality microphone. I eventually learned to turn down the gain😅 I hope keeping that record will be as beneficial for you as it has been for me!
I'm still watching but what a fantastic video! It's so refreshing to see your honesty about what actually works for you and why 💖 A fellow newbie here too!
Yay! Thank you for this video. I really enjoyed it. Also, I’ve been thinking about that A5 slim cover and I haven’t seen anyone review it. I use the Jibun Techo (I like the lite one) and haven’t found a case as beautiful as the TSLx Baum-Kuchen one. I worried that the little rivets might bother me so I’m really glad it’s one of your favorites.
WOW! what an Awesome video, so informative, fun, and well thought-out. Thank you for helpling another newbie navigate soooo many planner journey pitfalls & options. It felt like i had jumped off a cliff with no safety equipment. This gave me a life line, I dont feel so alone. Love the script, you voice is so soothing and your explanations are clear, include necessary details. very useful. Really enjoyed the video start, and dividing topics, then breaking into worst then best. Everything was perfect, sound lighting etc. I am so glad your video showed up on my feed. Thank you for all your hard work collecting a years worth of information together. Such a freat ideal to track our spending and consumerism. Really appreciate recycle and idea of reusing syringe and pen cartridges. 💞💡😜🌈🥳
Very thorough video. I really would have appreciated links. I know it’s a lot of hard work but I know that it has really paid off for creators who do that. Good luck.
Hi, I'm also a stationary newbie and I love all of the points you brought up in your video (tracking your stationery purchases is actually so smart I'm going to start doing that). I'm thinking about getting into fountain pens (I have a platinum preppy) and was wondering what inks you'd recommend since I see you have quite the pen collection.
Nice!! Since you're new, it should be easy to go back and record what you've purchased so far, I started to do it a few months into my journey as opposed to from the very beginning ¨̮ Honestly, I don't have any favorite inks! I just like to play around with samples from Yoseka (Vanness and Anderson Pens are good for samples also), and I'm usually satisfied, although every now and then I'll get one that's way too wet for my liking. I think Sailor has a really wide and lovely range though, and they're never too wet for me. Hope that helps!
@@papelesdeelib I've been browsing Sailor inks on JetPens and I totally agree. The only issue is that there is like only 1 stationery store in my entire state so finding good prices or getting my hands on ink samples ends up being pretty expensive :(
I love this. I would love it even more without the music in the background. Your voice is beautiful and it would be more calming without any other noises… and easier to listen and follow
Thank you so much for the feedback! I have to be honest and say that I don’t think the music is ever going anywhere. My husband made it specifically for my channel and I think it perfectly captures the vibe I want to bring so it’s really special to me! I do know that a lot of people are bothered by background music though, so I have tried to keep it at a level where it can be heard only faintly with high volume, and the video could be listened to at a volume where my voice can be heard but not the music. Keeping you in mind, I’ll try to bring the music down even lower for the next video! Even my husband has told me in the past that I should bring the music down to a lower volume.
If I ever sat down to write down how much I spent on stationery I would force myself on a no-buy because that money could have been spent on a great vacation out of the country, lol. So I'm just not going to calculate that. I'm going to live in my bubble.
Just curious how much money do you have invested in your stationary hobby? Impressive collection and knowledge..wonder if you have thought about sharing possible lower cost resources?.. thank you!!
I really enjoyed this video! Loved it! I would really appreciate it if you felt like listing the products but I can understand how time-consuming that would be.
This video is awesome. Great reviews. Ilove that you tracked your pruchase. I should do that. The only thing that bugged me is... were you reading a text? did you write this whole script? I'm impressed by that. However, the fact that you were reading kept you away from interacting with the camera. it's not really a negative comment (I hope it doesn't seem like it). It,s more like a "you might want to fix that aspect" kind of advice. And I'm not an expert. You do you!!! :) I still loved your video
Haha thank you for the support--I did write the whole thing and read it on camera, and I would not want to record a video like this again! I'm happy that you could enjoy it despite that though¨̮
I had to chuckle when you said you thought silver was so ugly because I feel the exact same way about gold trim. I think gold trim is gaudy, ugly and cheap.
This was a great video. Isn't crazy how good Platinum Preppy pens are? I have 4 of them inked with my less used colors. I never hear anyone talk about Levenger. I have several of their products and they've all been really high quality. I do a lot of long writing and do love my Levenger disc notebooks in both sizes. With the larger one, I do find that that I use the horizontal ruled paper or graph paper far more often than the vertical sheets. I know that book was expensive so maybe getting the horizontal paper might make it more useful. It's awful to spend that kind of money and dislike something.
Very interesting! It might have worked better if you have only shown your hands and the items-that would have made it less obvious )and a tiny bit distracting) that you were reading from a script and often not looking at the camera. Just my thoughts-loved the video anyway!
If youre gunna shell out "superior labor" kindda money for a leather cover get a Gillio instead, they really ARE all they're cracked up to be, theyve spoiled me for any other leather cover options 😂
As a viewer, it would have been preferable and easier to see the items - which were the real draw to this post - if you had focused the camera **only** on the items and just talked off-screen. Maybe focus on you only at the beginning and the very end as a wrap-up. Can’t see the items you’re talking about from “halfway across the room”.

Small pen cases that hold and protect a few of your most used and inked pens is really good. You never need to travel with 100 pens. IMO

Mini-cards make excellent gift tags. Just write a sweet message, punch a hole at the top, and attach with ribbon or string (or even attach with washi). Lots of people that I know keep these little tags, and not just as ephemera for their own journals.
I have been obsessed with stationary for about 20 years now. I took a break, and am now back to buying pens and notebooks. 😅
Fantastic video! Seriously. You touched on so many pluses and pitfalls that I’ve never heard in one place.
I started howling laughing at your very first “regret” item, the koi watercolors, because I did the same thing back in 2015! 😂
I just ordered to totes. But yours looks exactly what I’m looking for! Great ideas. Thanks so much.
Looooooved this video. Great info, helpful reflections, fun all the way through.
If only I had foresight to track ALL my stationery spending 😅
I want your Midori bookmark. Where can I find one.
What a great idea. I would be crying if I did the same
I love your video style, awesome job. and so happy I found your channel!
Loved, loved, loved this video & loved your bubbly personality.Very best video I've seen recently.Thankyou xxx
That is too kind, thank you so much!
Repurposing items also shows maturity. Just because it didn’t work for your original purpose doesn’t mean it can be useful for you in another way.
WOW! what an Awesome video, so informative, fun, and well thought-out. 💞💡😜🌈🥳
That was fun. Thanks for sharing
Very thorough video. I really would have appreciated links. I know it’s a lot of hard work but I know that it has really paid off for creators who do that. Good luck.
LOVELY video! Newbie here, I related so much to the “beautiful things to look at” I’m the same way!
Consumable, thats the word you wrre looking for. 😉 planner and stationary supplies are consumable items.
The only issue is that there is like only 1 stationery store in my entire state so finding good prices or getting my hands on ink samples ends up being pretty expensive :(
Check for stationery swaps that might be happening in your area. People take what they don't want to trade and find great things they do want.
I saw the whole video and subscribed! 😀👏
Impressive collection and knowledge..wonder if you have thought about sharing possible lower cost resources?.. thank you!!
loved this video! glad you made it
Thank you very much! ¨̮
I really enjoyed this video! Loved it! I would really appreciate it if you felt like listing the products but I can understand how time-consuming that would be.
Thank you so much for your kind words! Ask (a small UA-camr) and you shall receive...the products are in the description now😌
This is really good information. Wish I had this when I started out.
thank you so much! I really like to think that it could be helpful to someone :’)
I enjoyed your ideas. I hope you will keep making videos. I subscribed!!
You could use the little mini cards as tip ins for your own journal.
Honestly I’m kind of embarrassed I didn’t think of this before…brilliant idea, such an easy solution!
Don’t worry, I’ve been journaling for 30 years and I’m still learning new things. 😄
Cool intro ✨ TFS
I immediately checked the description for links to products 😅 what was the A5 slim techno system? Looks interesting
It's a Jibun Techo, and all of the featured items are now in the description! Hope that helps ¨̮
Thank you thank you!!
Love this video!
Great video
I think Galen products are course looking. I much prefer Levenger quality.
Your nails are beautiful.
Having your head not focused on the camera is distracting, it’s as if you are not focused on the audience. Info is great.
I agree
Travelers notebooks are great. I like the passport size best. Either size is a great place to start.
However the best place for me to start is the passport size bullet journal. The best system for beginners IMO.
