    Your channel is such an amazing and fun adventure. I really want to try and electroplate some of my old gi joe toy vehicles as i think its an alternative to vac metalizing since some of the chroming has flaked off. My only hold up is the copper conductive paint. Im not seeing many videos on how its made but am seeing lots of graphite paints. So may try that alternative. Thanks for keeping us informed on all the processes.

    I love how far us nerds can take our hobbies - i also heard that electroplating can help preventing dreaded "lead rot" in older miniatures

      @kessearl1181 Місяць тому +11

      But be careful in choosing the plating. You dont want to accidentally make a battery that destroys your beloved mini. Standard Reduction Potentials give a hint to which metals can be used to electroplate metal minis.

      @Hellsong89 25 днів тому +2

      @kessearl1181 Also if you have those, go and 3D scan them case something happens. Also helps to record the minis that are no longer in production and rare, so people can 3D print them since you can buy them and stock only gets less when accidents happen like house fires destroy them.

      @robertroughley1923 You know, even according to their business prospectus, they make most of their money off the models. I've been thinking, for a while, that they should set up some sort of community game development system. The players can collectively come up with rules we like, and they could streamline their company.

    Hello! I know that you can use masking before Step 2 - Applying Conductive Paint, and thus leave plastic exposed. Could you apply masking in between steps 5 and 6, so that the nickel was exposed in some areas after applying the gold? 🤔 Also, are you able to use different karats of gold to get different shades of gold through this process?

    It's great for the armor parts that are supposed to be gold BUT you also made every other nook and granny gold. They are so shiny you can't really tell by the video without applying a light coat of dark wash to see if it has deformed. It's a great decorative item for Cavill, or a statue prop in a game, but is it viable for use as a base for a whole army I'd have to see how all that paint works under it.

      @@hen3drik 5:40 you say 0.5mm/min deposition rate but you left them for 4h, so that would be 120mm of copper? That'd be a blob. I'm trying to figure out what power-supply I need and I'm confused by the numbers. even 0.005mm/min would be a solid 1.2mm tick layer?

    If you can prime and paint on top of the plating it'll be pretty cool.

    Hi, congratulations, your videos are truly amazing!! I’ve been thinking about this for a while now: I’d like to coat my resin 3D printed action figures with copper and then nickel to make them more resistant to breakage and time. Do you think this process could make my prints nearly indestructible, or would the metal layer be too thin? I’d really appreciate any advice you might have! And if you ever create a course on how to plate objects properly, I’d be your first student!

    • @hen3drik
      @hen3drik  Місяць тому

      Hi, thank you. I create a 200microns thick layer of copper first, so these become very rigid and stiff. Very thin parts may actually break when force is applied but it’s very unlikely (some fell down the shelf on concrete, no problem at all)

    Can I go straight to the nickel or do I have to do copper first?

    • @hen3drik
      @hen3drik  Місяць тому

      You could electroform with nickel but I don’t recommend as copper is faster and easier

    Es wäre noch gut gewesen, die Minis hinterher zu wiegen. Kannst Du die Werte irgendwie nachreichen? Mich interessiert einfach, ob die sich dann tatsächlich nach mehr als im Wesentlichen Luft anfühlen (bei Space Marines-Größe).

    Neat!! I don't care what anyone says. I miss the old metal models. When you pick one of my troops up, I want it to have weight. I want it to tell you to put it back down on their own.

      This method give you roughly 40% weight gain. I mean you could leave it in even longer to crank it up to 10g I guess

    Is this skin safe and waterproof.
    I wonder if I do this for jewelry, like rings and such, whether the gold would start coming off when people wash their hands with the ring on and the copper would irritate the skin afterwards

    Awesome job! Quick question, any reason why you copper plated them separately? Wouldn't it save a lot of time? Or would it ruin the eveness of the copper?
