Your channel is such an amazing and fun adventure. I really want to try and electroplate some of my old gi joe toy vehicles as i think its an alternative to vac metalizing since some of the chroming has flaked off. My only hold up is the copper conductive paint. Im not seeing many videos on how its made but am seeing lots of graphite paints. So may try that alternative. Thanks for keeping us informed on all the processes.
But be careful in choosing the plating. You dont want to accidentally make a battery that destroys your beloved mini. Standard Reduction Potentials give a hint to which metals can be used to electroplate metal minis.
@kessearl1181 Also if you have those, go and 3D scan them case something happens. Also helps to record the minis that are no longer in production and rare, so people can 3D print them since you can buy them and stock only gets less when accidents happen like house fires destroy them.
@robertroughley1923 You know, even according to their business prospectus, they make most of their money off the models. I've been thinking, for a while, that they should set up some sort of community game development system. The players can collectively come up with rules we like, and they could streamline their company.

This has helped loads thanks. Look forward to how you made your rotary jig as well. I’m planning on doing this method for my dnd games to make copper/silver/gold coins. Already done some 3d print testing with them. It’s just coating and electroplating to do
Hello! I know that you can use masking before Step 2 - Applying Conductive Paint, and thus leave plastic exposed. Could you apply masking in between steps 5 and 6, so that the nickel was exposed in some areas after applying the gold? 🤔 Also, are you able to use different karats of gold to get different shades of gold through this process?
Hello, what process would You recommend for gold plating small brass parts? These parts are used for electrical signal transmission, so emphasis is on functionality over aesthetics.
It’s a brightener that‘s already in the commercial acidic electrolyte. You can order replenishments for this, make sure to look for „brightener for acidic copper electrolyte“. I got it from a brand called tifoo. But there are also other distributors.

Fantastic. I am a bit curious how well they would take a wash, wherher something like a contrast paint or a good oil wash like one of the Villainy Inks It could be GREAT to see some Nickel Necrons, and the only thing I can imagine using this on upcoming project wise is to do a Space Marine 2 Killteam and have all the gold trim extremely blinged out
Ive never painted electroplate but using wash on metals gets streaky. Id probably use an oil wash and apply it very deliberately where I want it and not do the typical cover the model in 💩 then wipe it off.
I’ve watched many of your videos about electroplating. Could you make video riview kind of durability test for electroplated items and provide tips to make the coating more durable? For instance, if the electroplated object is a 3D-printed item that is frequently handled, such as a PlayStation controller, a phone case, or a fidget toy.
It's great for the armor parts that are supposed to be gold BUT you also made every other nook and granny gold. They are so shiny you can't really tell by the video without applying a light coat of dark wash to see if it has deformed. It's a great decorative item for Cavill, or a statue prop in a game, but is it viable for use as a base for a whole army I'd have to see how all that paint works under it.
Thank you for making these videos this is something I wanted to try doing to a 3d print of the shards of Narsil from LOTR and you are very detailed in your videos
G'day mate. This isn't something I can set up just to electroplated the occasional miniature. But I love the concept and outcome! If you do another batch, I'd happily pay to have a miniature electroplated at the same time. It would just be awesome to have my centre peice stand and be safe in real metal.
Yeah seconding this, it's something I'd love for one or two minis (having already gone into using metal leaf) but the setup is too much for my own workspace. Very cool!
how resistant is the plating to paint strippers and handling in general? for example can I drill gun barrels after them being plated safely? can I soak the miniature in like acetone or will it sill damage the plastic underneath? so many questions to such an amazing process for those specific minis :D
