    Couple of helpful tips I’ve learned from the KME experts: You don’t really need to use the 50 grit (or, usually, the 100) if you are profiling/sharpening steels that aren’t too hard, like the S30v here. You can get the job done with the 140 and save a lot steel. Save the 50/100 for super steels or if you have a damaged edge.
    The other tip: On your first stone, flip the knife often to avoid creating a lopsided apex. You don’t need to work only one side chasing the burr; flip often, then get the burr, which will come quicker. Also, you don’t need to get a burr with the 50; save that for a less course stone.
    Hope this helps some folks.

    Gotta love those lapping films. The first time I used them I couldn't believe my eyes. Nice work on the heel of that Shaman, I think that's harder to get right than the tip on a Spyderco. Keep it up Sean!

    That heel-to-tip line clamping will get those big bevels at the tip. Clamp straight across the spine for an even bevel width from heel to tip.

    What spyderco was the knife in the beginning. I like the blade length and the locking system

      That is a Spyderco Kapara. That might be a special run. The regular Kapara has carbon fiber scales and a blade in S30V steel.

      I have a link for the KME in the video description through my Amazon link which helps the channel at no additional cost to you! KME does have their own website though. I believe it’s KMEsharpening.com or something like that!

    I’m not sure why, but on about few of my knives I’ve sharpened on the KME I got scratches on the blades. I usually have to put some painters tape on the blade to avid this from happening. Have you ever ran into that issue ? I’m thinking it could be because the stones were new and needed to be broken in and they are diamond stones.

    Oh was wondering why I got an Uneven bevel on my shaman, I clamped it paralel at a straight line frome the tip to the pivot, but I see you draw a line frome the tip to the heel

      @BLADESANDFADESOFFICIAL  Рік тому

      Depends what system and stones you are using as well as the angle. There are many variables! I always suggest people try a variety of ways until you find what works best for you. There’s more than one “right way”! 👊🏼

    I was in suspense watching this because of that 50 grit stone and how grabby it is lol. I know you've probably sharpened 100 knives by now but ive slid my hand off the carrier at 50 grit and bumped my knuckles into the edge. 50 grit creates a ferocious bitey edge lol

  • @MrEric0822

    Those tips get wide when you clamp heel-to-tip line.

    • @BLADESANDFADESOFFICIAL
      @BLADESANDFADESOFFICIAL  2 роки тому

      Soo do you think this tip is wide?… Because I think it looks damn good and a ton of other people in the Spyderco groups seem to think so too. Not only that but it cuts much better as well. I mean I’m not opposed to different ideas, opinions, suggestions etc but tip to heel on Spyderco leaf shaped blade has worked perfectly on the 50 or more knives I’ve sharpened. Now on other blade shaped tip to pivot works great for me.

    • @MrEric0822
      @MrEric0822 2 роки тому +1

      @@BLADESANDFADESOFFICIAL Yes, your bevel is wider as you get to the tip. (Look at the bevel at the heel compared to the tip.) That’s not a criticism; that’s in fact how the knife is made because they make the edge thicker near the tip for durability. For those who want a consistent bevel width from heel to tip, clamping straight across the spine will keep the tip from widening. But like I said, I wasn’t being critical. For heavy use, your method is totally fine.
