Love Bad Wolves version as well as the original. What a beautiful and touching tribute to Dolores. They did her justice, and helped her family.

Nothing can touch the original, IMHO .. But Bad Wolves have certainly given a very worthy performance here, which I am sure that Dolores would have approved of .. Effective video too .. Plus, big credit to them for helping out her family 👍

More than a cover, though it may have started out that way, but rather a tribute and dedication. Bad Wolves did the song justice, and even included a little extra edge, if that's possible. Will always love the original more, but appreciate the Wolves for their effort.

Aye, never listened to this version as I didn't want to hear what I thought would be an insipid cover: glad I listened now; I'd call collaboration/dedication rather than cover. Ta to Daniel for reacting to this.

Wow, that was great ! I’d never heard this cover before nor even heard of Bad Wolves. I wholeheartedly agree with your approach to cover “comparisons” - you don’t have to choose between them. In this case Bad Wolves have delivered a fabulous tribute to Dolores and to the original song but have brought more to the table. The original focused specifically on the politics of Northern Ireland whereas the cover version gives the song a much more universal meaning. A real revelation - this is why I love your channel, Daniel.

I of course love the original, it is one of the most powerful of the past couple of decades. I think the timing was very healing for the fans, if not the Cranberries surviving members. I think they have a right to feel however they feel about a cover of their creation, but since O'riordan was planned to be involved I also chalk up their negative review to grief. I wonder if they feel differently now. Daniel, I think you are correct about the PTSD angle, only I'd go even further and say that in the case of these specific conflicts it's an entire country that has PTSD, and that is why the song resonated with both Ireland and the rest of the world so deeply. There are not too many places on earth that are unaffected by the wars inflicted on our world.

Daniel...the pronunciation of Delores' last name is said as "O-reerdon". Just so you know. That you for doing both versions. Both are great in their own right, for different focuses. Both are antiwar but also Bad Wolves also added the tribute to Delores.

Hey Daniel, I just wanted to tell you that I was a Hippie back in the 70s. I am probably older than your parents. I don't know if you would even care or not but you would have fit in PERFECTLY back in the day. Your sensitivity, love for music and the kind of mind you have just reminds me of kids I knew back in the day. Peace out, Little brother!✌️🌺❤️✌️🕊

I grew up with B52 bombers flying in to a nearby American Air Force Base, with the IRA and Vietnam daily on the news, closely followed by the Iran/Iraq war. We never saw it in colour, most TVs were black and white back then

Great song, but then again I do have a soft spot for power ballads which I would categorise this under. Not heard this before - love it! My favourite all-time power ballad has to be by the prog rock band 'Spock's Beard' called ' The Slow Crash Landing Man'. Hoping that you'll revue that one day :)

Thanks for the reaction. While I still prefer the original, it really doesn't matter, If The Cranberries version was a shout in protest, then Bad Wolves cover is screaming in outrage that it's still going on.

Spot on Daniel ...like Sound Of Silence and other covers like Hendrix/Watchtower, sometimes the original artists are impressed at the new genre interpretations. 5FDP also changed the lyrics in "House Of The Rising Sun" from New Orleans to their hometown of Las Vegas.

Wars are terrible things. You might enjoy the song "The Simple Truth (A Child is Born)" by the singer songwriter Chris de Burgh. All royalties from that song have been donated to children's charities. It was the centrepiece of "The Simple Truth: A Concert for Kurdish Refugees 1991" ( www.imdb.com/title/tt1055314/ ). There are many, many versions on UA-cam - including several from charity concerts.

OReeerdon (pronunciation). She was very rich through her life, $25 million when she died: I don’t think the family needed this band’s donation. I think they might have said that/did that after negative comments (not saying it wasn’t good that they donated $ to her kids).

"There’s a song on the record about my twin brother who’s currently serving 17 years for attempted murder, who tried to kill me during a home invasion when he was high in 2010. We really opened ourselves up not just from a creative standpoint but also a subject matter standpoint, to talk about topics that are really important to us.
" Here is the link to the song he is talking about

Daniel, I agree that the lyrics might be, or could be said to be, sufficiently non-specific and therefore lend themselves to be interpreted differently, except in one respect. This cover actually changes words in the song, which removes the very specific and particular context that does inform the exact meaning. I can see why they have done it, it makes for a more universal comment on violence, and it maybe that Dolores had agreed to the changes given she was going to sing on it. The lyric change - removing the reference to 1916, the Easter Rising - that leads directly decades later the IRA Warrington bombing, which killed two small boys, and was her catalyst for writing it, does in fact have an impact on her explicit original meaning. Surely, the Zombies are those that were capable of planting a bomb in a public space with the intention of killing and maiming, without apparent compassion or empathy, and not knowing who it might kill or main.

I can understand why the rest of the band were not happy with the Bad Wolves releasing this so soon after their bandmates death. A lot of people thought Bad Wolves were getting famous off the death. There was no way they were planning on releasing this song in Jan 2018 so it does feel a little suspect. The chorus drop was really good on this track but for me it lacked the emotion and lost the original guitar solo which evinced pain better than the quite generic solo Bad Wolves had. And, obviously, Dolore's vocals take it to another level. And they couldn't match Fergal Lawler's passionate drumming and the clarity of the sound. (Also, it is pronounced O'REARdon).

Hallelujah is one of the most covered songs around. But the writer's version, which took five years to complete and involved whittling down more than 80 verses, should be reviewed first, at least in my opinion.

Nice tribute, but not impressed with Bad Wolves; too much post-polish on the track and the delivery did not convey the emotion of the lyric... and you can easily name a half dozen outfits with nearly identical vocal stylings. Had a similar reaction of Limp Bizkit's cover of the Who- they just did not get the meaning behind the words.
