  • This is the Zombie reaction. I entered this reaction with no idea what to expect. I am a little shook and a little pleased to see the tribute done by Bad Wolves, while in turn keeping the sprite of the song.... simply amazing! A subscriber has left this recommendation in the comments section for a while. I wish I had reacted sooner. RIP Dolores O'Riordan.

    Another head hangs lowly
    Child is slowly taken
And the violence, caused such silence
    Who are we mistaken?
But you see, it's not me
    It's not my family
In your head, in your head, they are fighting
With their tanks, and their bombs
And their bombs, and their guns
In your head, in your head they are crying
In your head, in your head
    Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie

Delores has the most beautiful voice in rock. She was one in a billion. When Bad Wolves did this video without her they were still grieving her passing. When the woman portraying her showed up on the set in gold paint they broke into tears.

@@AkReaper Honestly I don't know. But there is no way for me to say it in the song. I always thought it was a song about all the atrocities made during wars. In Ireland the "Bloody Sunday" but also the bombs and attacks of the two sides.

    • @AkReaper

@@maximebriochain5567 Your right of course it is a musical protest about war in general, but from my vague recollection it was more specifically based on an attack that happened during the conflict the IRA was having with the other half of Ireland at the time the song came out. If you watch the official video by the Cranberries, not long after the 2 minute mark you can see markings specifically referencing the IRA. I did a quick research and fond two links placed at the bottom. The first one is a story from the BBC (aka the British Broadcasting Channel), so it's information is fairly closer to home, a less biased then CNN is in America. The second was just interesting, so have a nice night. www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/entertainment-arts-42702781 and www.radiox.co.uk/features/dolores-oriordan-cranberries-zombie-story-meaning/.

Dedicated to 2 little boys blown up by an ira bomb in warrington. This song has a huge meaning on both sides as it describes the terror violence fear and sorrow not only in the 30 years of the troubles but since partition in 1921 hence dolores mentioned 1916 as that is when the easter rising happened in dublin which eventually led to independence for 26 counties of ireland.
But ireland and britain earlier england have been at conflict for over 800 years. Its only since 1998 have relations between our countries massively improved as trust is gained.

    Yes, the original Cranberries video!
The song was inspired by the IRA bombing in Warrington, Cheshire, England on March 20, 1993. Two children, Jonathan Ball and Tim Parry, were killed. The IRA (Irish Republican Army) is a militant group that was determined to remove British troops from Northern Ireland.
“Zombie" speaks about "the Irish fight for independence that seems to last forever." The lyrics even say, "It's the same old theme since 1916."
This song takes the unassailable position that killing young children is tragic, but in venturing into the political fray, it created a great deal of controversy.
Getting painted for the video was O'Riordan's idea to symbolism, to make it magnificent in a way, at the cross. It was metaphoric for all the pain that was being caused, and it was slightly religious as well."
    RIP DELORES O’RIORDAN ✝️

I live on the opposite side of the world from where this happened, but I can remember asking my mother why she was crying after reading the paper one day, she read the article to me, about the bombing in Warrington and tried to explain to me about the disharmony in that country, that had caused the loss of innocent lives. Hi
I have lived in Warrington UK for my entire life and listening to this song brings back a lot of painful and terrifying memories.
I was just 14 when the bus that my friends and I were on had just turned onto Bridge street approaching the town centre when the 1st bomb went off, and before we could comprehend what had happened we heard the second explosion and could clearly see the carnage unfolding.
    2 young boys were killed.
I will never forget that day.
The Cranberries released the song Zombie in protest to the violence that had occurred not just for that day, but for the continuing atrocities in Ireland.
For Dolores O'Riordan to sing alongside the Bad Wolves in an updated cover of this song in protest of the violence which still occurs till the present day would have been amazing, and I'm whole heartedly saddened that she died before it was made possible.
This song will be forever in Warringtons heart.
    Thank you

I was 10 when this song came out. I thought it was amazing, I used to belt it out when it was on the radio. My grandmother asked me if I knew what it was about and that day I learned what Terrorism was. I learned some of my family had left Ireland back in the 1800s. When the Bad Wolves cover came out it brought the song back to the fore. What happened when the original was released was STILL happening 100 years later. The Bad Wolves version expanded the scope of the song with a word - Drones. Taking us out of Ireland and pulled in Iraq and Iran and Syria and Pakistan and Palestine and so many more places. To places where terror happens often and for a lot of people has been on their TV since they were 10. I am glad this song is making us look into history. I hope 100 years from now... the only place terror lurks is in the history books.

There were a lot of bombs going off in London and I remember this one time a child was killed when a bomb was put in a rubbish bin - that's why there's that line in the song, 'A child is slowly taken. [ ... ] We were on a tour bus and I was near the location where it happened, so it really struck me hard - I was quite young, but I remember being devastated about the innocent children being pulled into that kind of thing. So I suppose that's why I was saying, 'It's not me' - that even though I'm Irish it wasn't me, I didn't do it. Because being Irish, it was quite hard, especially in the UK when there was so much tension - Dolores O'Riordan

I love both the original and the cover by Bad Wolves.
The original is definitely from the times. Its one of those classic songs from the 90s that defined rock. And not just bring awareness to a very screwed up situation.
The cover is a very well done, honoring of the song and just how amazing Dolores was. It never lost the message, it had originally. I can understand some people wishing the duet could've happened as was planned. But what Bad Wolves did shows how good people and how much they cared for the Song, the artist, and her work.

Great reaction, sorry I am late to see this. Two small bits of symbolism. The first time she touches the glass divide with paint on her hand, she left her mark finger prints and all. The glass is symbolic of death, the separation. At the end completely closing the window with the paint....

Best reaction I've seen by far! You take the time to analyze the two versions and their messages, both the Dolores and Bad Volves versions, and at the same time you interpret the message that the cover gives Dolores through their version and the video. Thanks a lot!

Bad wolves sounded good, but still doesn't get the point across and pull at your heart like the original video, and the emotion she captures with her voice.

As you know Richard, Delores was supposed to perform on this version which would have made it more unique. However, under the circumstances, Bad Wolves did the song justice IMO & dedicating the proceeds to her children was a beautiful gesture.

Curios the day she Died in the plane accident was the day that she was suposed to record that song with Bad Wolves and dont know if you noticed in the video they put in the glass the date that she passed away.

People usually overlook the “On January 15, 2018 The cranberries’ Dolores O’Riordan was set to “reprise” her iconic vocals on Bad Wolves’ cover of “Zombie””
Meaning she was supposed to be in the song but couldn’t because the message after says she left the world that day.
She died in a plane crash heading to the studio to record the song with Bad Wolves
People always overlook that part and never mention anything about it

Great channel. I really enjoyed this. IMO there is no way to one up a PERFECT song but somehow Bad Wolves might of found that way. They somehow found a way to portray her message and pay respectful homage to Dolores. Both songs are perfect. I think you missed one valuable piece of info during the song. You turned towards your viewers at the exact time Dolores wrote 1-15-18 which was the date she left this world. Delores was the lady in gold and he couldn't touch her. Absolutely iconic song and an iconic remake. Thank you for playing this

I like the Bad Wolves rendition, very powerful BUT, I still prefer The Cranberries...if you don't know what the song is about, read about The Trou les in Northern Ireland...2 little boys 3 and 5, I believe had been killed, which I believe drove Delores to write this
