After Biden's poor performance and a litany of "senior moments" in the first debate, some Democrats are talking up the possibility of replacing him as their Presidential candidate before November. But is this actually feasible so close to the election?

@@julonkrutor4649he is the incumbent president and leader of the party it’s extremely rare for incumbent presidents to not run for reelection, and in American politics, the power of incumbent seat is pretty powerful. And for the longest time, it’s not exactly obvious that insert democrat would be doing better versus trump. Any replacement candidate would’ve needed to be elected by the voters in a primary, and because Biden is running for reelection. Nobody who wants a future in democratic politics, is running against him.

    • @threecards333
      @threecards333 7 днів тому

@@julonkrutor4649 Inertia, Biden is the current president and they prefer to keep the status quo whether than shake the boat to gamble on getting a better candidate. Additionally the Democrat party threatened its members not to run against Biden and they even cancelled 4 to 5 state primaries completely. They even excommunicated New Hampshire as it was not favoring Biden (excuse was a disagreement over the date of the vote), although Biden did still win the unofficial primary anyway.
Democrat party primaries are well known to be quite controlled by the party, and party elites favorite candidates usually win.
Republicans primaries tend to be a lot more of a mess because they ironically have less institutional controls. The rise of Trump is an example of popular will defeating institutional power. It is quite depressing that Trump was an example of democratic will defeating institutional power back in 2016.

@julonkrutor4649 Basically, all of the Democratic Party leadership said Biden was going to be their candidate. His challengers were Marrianne Williamson, who is outside of politics, RFK Jr, who has also never held political office, and Dean Phillips, who was told by many Democrats not to run. I can only guess that voters chose Biden because the party said so and they didn't know he was this bad.

Didn't Mitch McConnell say that there was no need to impeach Trump because he was leaving office and so would no longer be a problem?
If McConnell and other Republicans had done the right thing and voted to impeach Trump then he couldn't have run again and hopefully Biden would have stepped down after one term.
Though Republicans would almost certainly have picked another MAGA candidate so maybe Biden would have still refused to just leave after one term.
      Which makes one wonder.
If Trump wins and actually agrees to step down in four years and another MAGA Republican candidate runs in 2028 would Biden try to run again?
Though if Trump wins I doubt that the United States will have another real presidential election for a very long time.

@@loganleroy8622 No. Trump said Dems support abortion until birth, but no Dem does. Especially no one in Biden's camp. He said he had the best environmental numbers ever, whatever that means. But not only is that an exaggeration, it's an outright lie.
He gave a pass to corporation in keeping line with environmental regulations, and got rid of many agreements/organizations keeping this in check.
Trump said he had the most secure border in history, but that's inaccurate: it's one of the worst, look at how many people came across and the border-related violence during his presidency.
Biden doesn't sell himself well, but his "lies" are more in line with exaggeration. He said there were no jobs when Trump left, but what he meant was that job opportunities were scarce: which was completely true. He said insulin and senior copays were capped very low, but the real numbers were slightly higher (which is still much better than ever in the last half century). Trump makes things out of thin air, he likes to mix less extreme lies so as to inflate his own image. He's a showman, and he's perfected this trade. There's a reason why everyone outvoted him the first time.

Before the conventions? The delegates can be released I think and become super delegates, and can technically vote for who they want, though that would create some problems with the fundraising since all of that money was written to the "Biden/Harris" campaign, so unless Harris is on the ticket it would probably meet some legal problems.
Post convention and before the election? Their running mate moves to the top of the ticket, though Biden's name would still be on the ballot.

The Trump derangement syndrome is really something special in the media and online. As a Canadian I find it absolutely stunning what people can get away with saying, even when its possible to point to him having been in power before. Frightening what evils people will do in the name of a possible evil, not seeing that they have become the very thing they profess to be fighting, and in fact even worse.

It's convenient to call something "evil", even though that very thing is in no way comparable to the evils of another person. Trump being convicted for sexual assault and having had dozens of assault allegations (including that he raped his wife), now that is something i would call evil. Because you have to have a very pronounced lack of empathy to do this to another person. In comparison, saying that someone is deranged is nothing. And it's not like Trump doesn't insult people with similar (worse in fact) rethoric ALL THE TIME. So at the very least, they are even on that singular issue - which doesn't really have any significance when we are talking about issues like the economy, womens rights and the freedom of the Western world.

    • @Balorian

@@gclip9883 I think what you fail to understand is people seeing the person, and not the job. If you take away the person and the party and say A and B, A clearly did a better job and B clearly has failed at the job. Now you want to talk about evils, I'd say voting in someone that ruins economies and takes away freedoms is the far greater evil. How many people died due to miss management, or the "modern" actions of putting people in roles that shouldn't have them, or aren't qualified to have them, but they check boxes? Economies crashing beings misery to millions. If people can't see that and would doom a country to failure, and its people with it, just because the media tells them "orange man bad" is the ultimate form of stupidity and evil in my mind.

You need to ask yourself-do you want to give Trump a higher chance to win? If yes, you would've chosen a new candidate. Even if they did it four years ago, Biden would have a higher chance because of his incumbency.
Because of that, there is no way in hell the dems will let someone else take his place. It would be a sure loss.

The DNC are assuming they can guilt trip the american people into voting for an incompetent old man. That their fearmongering is a winning campaign strategy. It isn't. The majority of once every four years voters that decide the electoral college aren't going to pick Biden because Trump is a worse option. They tried it in 2020 and they weren't happy with the result. Look at Biden's approval rating in swing states for the past two years.
I'm not saying all those people are switching to Trump. They're just deciding to vote third party or stay home entirely. And it's the DNC's fault for not learning from their mistakes in 2016.

Trump made the unsupported claim that the U.S. border with Mexico is “the most dangerous place in the world,” and suggested that it has opened the country to a violent crime wave. The data show a reduction in violent crime in the U.S.

Which in turn claims the question of why the Democrats can't get a better candidate, it's not as if they expected fair ground. Exactly. The media remains Trump's greatest asset even when they put on a show of "condemning" him. I don't think there's any candidate, president, or ex-president that's had as much consistent coverage of their every word and action as Trump has been given for the past 8 years. And it's all for profit, they just know any article they write with Trump's name in the title will always get eyes on it. So they'll never shut up about him. And both of them are easy scapegoats for problems affecting this country that objectively have little to do with who's president, and run much deeper in our political and economic system.

    • @threecards333

Media is consistently critical of Republican choice of Trump. The whole meta discussion regarding Biden is not whether Biden would be a good president upon reelection but only whether Biden can protect the country against Trump. US media was promoting Niki Haley as an alternative to Trump this winter and she did so so in the primaries.
The fear is of Trump winning, so that is counter to the narrative of getting Republicans to drop Trump as Republicans want back into power. (Although i would assert than a generic Republican can likely defeat Biden easily given a lot of Biden votes are anti-Trump rather than pro-Biden).
