I still have a M1 & M5 3 wood but I found myself…. Going back to my Much Older Adams 3Hy Wood, just upgraded the shaft to something newer and man Adams older stuff still performs to todays clubs. My M5 3 wood would average about 268 carry but I put that up against my Adams Speedline 3 wood and man….278 average carry “insane!” Should definitely re look at the older Adams stuff!!!

i honestly dont even have a wood in my bag, with local courses its not very common that i need a wood when my driver hits 300+ its not too often i am more than a 7 iron from the green, unless of course its a long par 5 but at that point i am still rarely more than 250 from the pin and i will just use 3iron and just get as close as i can for an easy chip, or lay up with 7iron to 75 yards for an easy wedge in, i am a 5 handicapper of course I could probably be more aggressive if i had a wood in the bag, but for the local amatuer player i don't see a need for one. i might head to the used sports store now though and maybe grab one just to fit in

0:02 As an older single HCP, I don't really care what male pros use. Their swing speed is as achievable for me as dunking a basketball from the free throw line.
After years of studying launch monitor data, plus personal experience, I've become much more in tune with what LPGA players are doing. Their swing speeds and distances are achievable for the vast majority of "serious" golfers.
It would be interesting to repeat your survey on the LPGA, where anecdotally I tend to see more of the high tech being used.

If a Taylormade staffer came from another brand and signs with Taylormade. But they don’t feel comfortable with the new TM clubs. Taylormade will let them use what they were using until they find a new club they feel comfortable with. Or they only signed with a certain amount of clubs. Scotty isn’t using the mg wedges cause he doesn’t have a set he feels comfortable with. Same with the putters.

I’ve been playing the same 3 and 5 wood for 20 years, maybe longer…I hit my Cobra hyper steal carbon fairway woods relatively well, 3 wood about 245 off deck, 3 would about 235 off deck. I can control them both fairly well.
That said, I was recently fit into a paradigm 7 wood. I hit it 250 and really high launch. I was fit into the paradigm 3HL and hit tat around 260-270. I’m 52 years old.
My point in posting is don’t be like me, thinking I don’t need anything new. The new stuff is really good. Now I doubt I will replace my new equipment for a number of years, but every other year, I will be fitted for every club in my back. I will not be a Luddite.

    A couple thoughts:
If the club goes the right distance, filling the gap correctly, why would you change it. How much better can you make a club that hits 240 carry when the players catch the middle of the face frequently?
there are contracts where they must use the new head covers of their primary sponsor. Even if they aren’t the same brand or up to date model. Not every pro signs a full bag contract. Look at Scottie scheffler.

The Tour Pros need their fairway woods to go a certain distance, especially if they're trying to hit greens on Par 5s in two. Many of the pros are using 16.5 3W because the new technology makes the 15 go too far. They don't need to spend time figuring out new yardages for a brand new 5W when they know exactly what their 5 year old 5W is going to do.
Even for me when the face on my TS2 3W (My favorite club in the bag) dented in I regretfully had to get a new 3W. I started with the TSR2 but it launched too high which was not good with how windy my home courses always are. I went to the TSR3 and eventually had to loft it up to 16.5 because at 15 it was going only 10 yards shorter than my driver off the tee.

Great video! I totally agree with this view. I’ve got a Tour Edge XCG5 4 wood in the bag with regular flex and I can’t find a better or more consistent fairway for me. I can hit it over 240 when I put the screws to it, and it hits 200-220 whenever I need it. I think it’s great to try new clubs but if they are not immediately better, say no thanks and walk away.

I went shopping for a 3 wood. Picked up a stealth and stealth 2, both felt different. In the shop was an M5. I had the shaft put on that, set it draw, and loved that one.
    I now have 3 - 3 woods the M5, a 975F 13.5°, and a 15° Adams F11. I have guest clubs.
New fairway woods are a waste of $$.

The oldest stuff in my bag is my cobra speedzone driver,3 wood,3 hybrid, i absolutely love the driver but theyre are all looking old now so looking to change them.
I buy new golf stuff because i like new shiny stuff and i choose stuff i sinply like the look of, i dont expect a yardage gain or anything else, im to rubbish at golf for them to make a good enough difference.

JTs favourite club is still the 915. So sad I cracked the face on my 3 wood over Christmas and had to upgrade 😢
Usually just upgrade head covers every couple of years 😜
