- Ty Segall & Freedom Band rip through a discography spanning set filmed at Occidental College’s Remsen Bird Hillside Theater, a Greek amphitheater in the hills of Los Angeles.

The Freedom Band’s first stream was recorded by their 6th member, live sound engineer and sonic guru, Matthew Littlejohn and fellow head, Mike Kriebel. They teamed up with director Joshua Erkman to film the band in the round. The film was co-produced by LA’s Sid The Cat, with audio mixed by Mike Kriebel.

It is interesting to note that the album lists 'Sleeper' as the name rather than 'And, Goodnight' (which is the name of the song on 'Freedom's Goblin')

Thats how I feel about bloodshot Bill & king khan in tandoori knights Curry Up, bloodshot Bill's 15 solo albums, bloodshot and shannon Shaw, Bloodshot Bill and Mark Sultan in The Ding-Dongs ,Mark Sultan's Sultanic Verses & $ albums, those blow my mind along with Mark Sultan/King Khan and The Black Lips as Almighty Defenders, shannon & the Clams, and especially cannot stop STILL listening to BLOOD VISIONS by Jay r.i.p. Reatard (James Lee Lindsey Jr) and his Angry Angles albums. He mustve known he had a short time with us as his body of work in over 9 bands in less than a 10 yr period is something to behold. Then theres Thee Oh Sees who've changed the name spelling each time theres a significant line up change. The OSEES are the closest to Ty's psych,keys,nuggets garage ,punk rock style ,vocal fx ,echo chambers and stylistically together that show would be too much lol. I thought Dinosaur Jr. Was loud but Osees are LOUD

really glad i saw ty during the slaughterhouse, melted, goodbye bread, reverse shark attack days. to me that is some of the greatest music ever recorded

Totally agree! Ty came through Madison, WI twice in the summer of 2012. The first time was while his band was touring with White Fence for the Hair album, and the second was when they were touring with Thee Oh Sees to promote Slaughterhouse. Ty's band for both tours was Emily on drums, Mikal on bass and Charles on guitar. Every band killed it both times. Ty and his band signed my copy of Ty's Singles collection and talked to me for a bit. They were all really cool.
I was 11 so I don't think I would have been that into it back then personally. Happy to be a fan now though, all that matters.
Agreed however I didn't catch ty back in those days (was also a younger chap at the time, about 14-15 just getting into the music of Ty) but I more recently caught him during the double album tour performing both his latest record-First Taste-- along with Emotional Mugger and it was some firey shit they were jamming wicked heavy it rocked for a 1st time!
That take of alta almost made me quit my job. Fucking Rips.

one of the coolest things about watching any iteration of ty's band play is seeing the cool vintage gear they use. these guys seemingly own hundreds of vintage and expensive amps
Love seeing Ampeg getting repped hard, and Ty's Super Reverbs (or are they Bassman 10's?) are very choice. Love me a Mustang more than anything, but ever since Ty switched to Travis Beans his wu-tang powers have increased ten thousand fold (he got GOODERER)

@@rocketsalad truth!!! in another live video (Ty segall at KEXP) that rhodes is run through a traynor head and cab (iirc). they are always slipping out phenomenal gear pieces
@@evanstack8909 just saw them play on Friday 6/25 and that Rhodes (and a Krumar electric piano, too) thru a Marshall FULL STACK was the cronchiest, most beautiful sound I've heard since I don't know when. Standing dead center behind the soundboard, that was the loudest show i've heard in my life. actually, probably the loudest _thing_ i've heard ever!

After my intro to this guy, via 'Freedom's Goblin', I did a quick scan. He is in the line of genius.
Ty is fucking sick, he's a shredator. Dangerous to the eardrums, even while they bleed you feel the need to turn it up! I love all the different formulaic styles each band takes in form as they shed another skin and formulate something new again,forever refreshing. Early on i thought his stuff was soft while listening to jay reatards blood visions but ive had my eye on him and w respected mikal cronin i keep being surprised by Ty! I must see him live now its the logical next step

This is the magic lineup for me, all these guys have such great musical chemistry. Same band that was on his Freedom's Goblin and 2nd Self-titled records. Also on the live record Deforming Lobes which is also fantastic face melting live music. Ty Segall continues to be at the top of his game, I'd love to see him live in real life.
Exactly my thoughts. Mikal and Charlie are killing it on the rhythm section, and I’m not sure of the keyboardist’s name, but he’s awesome too. Of course Ty and Emett killing it as always. This lineup is perfect
Sad that Charles is seemingly stepping away from music (not sure if it is a complete hiatus or what) and out of respect for his great friend Ty is officially retiring the Freedom Band moniker. Last couple shows for Ty with Freedom Band are coming up but I am so grateful to see the 3rd/4th to last performance of theirs in Detroit on the 6th but my god did their performance make the announcement more of a bummer than it already was. They were absolutely amazing and the complete rearranging of classic Ty songs was a blessing to witness 🙏

I've only just got into this band thanks to discovering kexp radio I didn't think there was any newish bands that were so good meatbodys,squid kexp have opened a new fresh playlist of amazing sounds, it's been emotional at times thank the music god's, be safe people......

Great shit.... the cinematography, the music. The night shots are phenomenal. Anyone who worships at the altar of Live at Pompeii has to pay homage to this effort. Busy drummer is the weak link.
If you find Charles Moonhart lacking on drums (personally, I don't), you may consider sampling his guitar work with FUZZ and see if that don't change your opinion of the man ✌
