- The Game of Thrones Prequel The House of the Dragon is in production and I will be covering Fire & Blood until House of the Dragon premieres in 2022! House of the Dragon is allegedly about the Targaryen Civil war known as the Dance of Dragons and is based on Fire and Blood by George RR Martin and That means House Targaryen baby! But House of the Dragon won't just be about House Targaryen, There are many characters with major roles that aren't Silver headed! In Today's video we will be discussing the leader of The Greens Wife of King Viserys Queen Alicent Hightower. Alicent Hightower of Oldtown, Alicent goes to head to head against her step daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen and the Black and the Greens play the Game of Thrones with higher stakes then ever before Dragons and alot of them! Queen Alicent reminds me most of Cersei Lannister and Margery Tyrell but in this video I will go into the past and give you the 411 on Queen Alicent Hightower! Thanks for Watching!

Alicent Hightower and Aegon II are like a not-crazy version of Cersei and Joffrey....which is what makes them so much more DANGEROUS. "Sanity has its advantages", so Cersei and Joffrey keep making stupid mistakes. Alicent is a rational actor for her own self-interest, and an adept politician in her own right - arguably the true "leader" of the Greens. This makes her far more dangerous than Cersei ever was.
Even Aegon II...while an entitled, gluttonous, lustful brat in many ways...actually was willing to face his enemies on the battlefield (he's not a coward), and while hot-headed and short-sighted, did manage to spring an effective trap at the Battle of Rook's Rest - things that were totally beyond Joffrey's capabilities.
Aegon was crazy. After Aemon killed Luke his words were..”a good beginning”
And alicent had rhaenyra fed to a dragon. Both evil and both insane.
If Joffery had a dragon. 7 hells!
@@fenixchief7 actually it was Aegon that did that
@@fenixchief7 aegon fed her to his dragon.
I really wished we could see Aegons Conquest before the Dance. To me it’s filled with more mysteries and things left unanswered than the Dance. Visenya as a warrior queen, the battles for the conquest, the three dragons of legend at their prime, Rhaenys’s death, the letter from Dorne, Maegors conception, life and death, his disputes with the faith, Jahaerys’s reign with the dragon at Winterfell and the Wall, the stealing of the eggs, the three queens, the founding of House Baratheon, and so many other AWESOME things that came before. Damn I was more excited for all of that than the Dance even.
Yes I think about that too! It has a lot of great mysteries to it too
Yeah, I think Aegon’s conquest would make for a really good movie.
Mysteries yes but not entertaining. Aegon's Conquest didn't have the backstabbing, politics that both Game Of Thrones and Dance has
Agree I am a bit disappointed that they are not starting from the very beginning. They did say they are aiming for 5 seasons of House of the Dragon so I hope ome of those future seasons or the seasons after 1 are prequels like Aegon's Conquest, Good Queen Alassayne etc.
I believe they’ll be showing clips of the conquest during this show
but I will say Rhaenyra could've been smarter about who she had an affair. There were way too many Velaryon Bastards with Valyrian features that she could've chosen to father her sons yet she chose Harwin Strong. Rhaenyra's short-sightedness only worked in Alicents favor.
look at house strongs device. its very similar to house massey from stonedance. my theory: you need a descentant from 3 powerful races with magical bloodlines. valyrians (red), rhoynar (green) and first men (blue).
Maybe her choice had to do with emotions not just "you cute come hope in my bed"
she's just like cersei, while Alicent is more like Catelyn.
@@anne-kathrinhohlig1466 Aren’t her and Laenor both descendants of house Massey
They werent there remember haha deamon also wasnt there
A tweet deleted by Ser Otto Hightower on the day his daughter married King Viserys: "“On no account can Prince Daemon be allowed to ascend to the Iron Throne. He would be a second Maegor the Cruel, or worse. Better the Realm’s Delight than Lord Flea Bottom.”
I cant tell you how much I despise Alicent Hightower.
Rule number one, never marry the hand's daughter. Something Aerys was actually smart for not allowing with Cersei and Rhaegar.
It only caused his downfall
@@Kai555100 marrying Cersei to Rhaegar would have been another can of worms that could have ended just as badly for the targaryens as everything else did. But the reason why the dance of the Dragons was so avoidable was because Jaehaerys carelessly decided to be sexist and if he knew the full extent of how stupid his actions were I'd hope he'd be wise enough to realize that gender should never determine the heir
I agree. The only thing Aerys did do right was not agreeing for Cersei to wed his son. I'm mainly saying that because of how hate Cersei is and how Rhaegar was obsessed with prophecy. Once Rhaegar wluldve felt lime his children by Cersei weren't the prophesied savior he just would've ran off with someone else anyway.
@@sydnitheromantictaylor112 him running off with lyanna was inevitable
Hasan Wilson its not sexist when you look at the customs of westeros none of the high lords would truly back a women queen. In Reineras case especially if she would have had little bitch boy Laynor as king.
Do a video of who you would cast for house of the dragon
Yes please this would be great!!
Great idea, but would be hard. The beauty of Game of thrones is that no one was really globally recognisable, apart from Sean bean. So would be difficult to think of people
Ben Dream casting for me is Katheryn Winnick, Alexander Skarsgard, and Margot Robbie for the 3 heads of the dragon!
Mel of Winterfell at this point people keep typecasting the actor he doesn’t look like a Targaryen
Shannon T I love your cast
That’s my girl in the thumbnail 🥰
If Natalie could be in House of the Dragon, I would be juiced!! Lol 😅
Viserys I was an idiot for not at least considering rhaenera and aegon to wed, he didn't even care to think about what trouble would come once he died. He knew how his wife felt about wanting their son on the throne how could he have thought everything would just go the way he wanted them once he was gone. But alicent and rhaenerya were wrong to go to war with each other they were family, the dance of the dragons was the war that the dynasty never truly recovered from. Now house Targaryen is extinguished.
Sydni Taylor I guess he didn’t believe his wife would go behind his back after he died when he made it very clear who his heir was. Also House Targaryen is not extinct in the books. It’s GRRM favorite ASOIAF theme to write about, I’m sure he will leave a flicker of fire alive in the end. Probably as will ice.
@@Hernameispamela true maybe Viserys didn't think that and I know house Targaryen isn't extinct in the books but the only Targaryen I can see being alive at the end is Jon ( the half breed dragon)
@@sydnitheromantictaylor112 jon fucking snow isnt a descentant of house targarayen. i hope the last two books are going b+l=j.

I think that there was a moment when Rhaenyra, perhaps threatened Alicent. Let her know that when she becomes Queen, it's a wrap. And that gave Alicent no choice and she had to take action. There could never be a happy ending between these two women. Alicent coveted the throne, from the moment her first son was born and she couldn't hide it.
I mean, yeah of course Alicent and her children will be in danger when Rhaenyra ascends the throne, she knows this since they openly are enemies and cant' stand each other in court. I do understand her motive to 'strike first.' Alicent also wants the throne for her son, so for years, she (and her father) worked to spread the whole 'Strong bastards' rumor to diminish Rhaenyra's reputation (which is not had to do, honestly) further...Rhaenyra is aware of this 100% and can't wait for the day she will rule...But all in all, I am still very curious why Viserys overlooks his healthy sons and insists on Rhaenyra on being the next ruler. I think it's because of the theory that Viserys knows that the Targaryen line via Rhaenyra is the line that will survive....which really happens...in the end. As his line with Alicent's ends after her granddaughter, Jaehara's 'suicide' (or murder).
I love this!!! You made it sound so hilarious and really showed the kind of pointlessness of fighting amongst each other for the throne or for straight up personal slights. I love that George portrays so-called historical royals like this
Alicent Hightower seeked a better future for her sons by putting one of them in the Throne, but never bothered to raise them properly and it shows: Aegon is a sulky, gluttonous and promiscuous brat and Aemond is a very caustic and hot tempered person. This ended up costing her everything, including herself.
Yes because they were grown up to become king because she told them constantly also she was not happy and it shows off to the kids
it's honestly so sad how this all could have been avoided if the kids were all brought up closely
Jaehaerys could habe just married Rhaenys to Viserys and the Dance would have never happend
That's like saying Zelensky could have just stayed neutral and they would have been no war us humans are useless reality and in fiction 😅

I wonder why in the small council nobody never opposed to Otto Hightower abuse of power?
Probably because he appointed half of them
interesting how Alicent and Margery are related--Margery's mother was lady Alerie Hightower.
There is always room enough for another video about a Daemon... especially Martin‘s favourite characters the Targaryens, the Rogue Prince Daemon Targaryen
When did he say this?
Kris B sorry, I forgot the ‚of the Targaryens’ in the sentence
You can search ‚George RR Martin on his favorite Targaryen character‘ on UA-cam! There you will find the interview
"Queen Alicent, you not puttin out no baby's eye" LMFAO 🤣😆🤣
Not worried about it either Gray... just glad to see you continue to make awesome ASOIAF/GOT videos... and I would absolutely LOVE a video on the DRAGON Knight! I know I’ve asked for it a bunch of times over the years... ( yes I changed my profile pic and my display name to my actual government) but that would be an awesome gift! Stay safe and well! All these people are running around like this is all over and people are opening a lot of stuff up like this shit is gone.... smh they went and bumped they damn heads!
I love the potential of this character a lot. A pawn that is underestimated, who turns out to be a good schemer flying under the radar. I hope she's developed that way.
The marriage of Prince Aegon to Princess Rhaenyra would’ve been a good one. King Viserys refused to accept the truth. Natalie Dormer as Queen Alicent Hightower! Great video
Bonus points for Margaery actually being a Hightower, matrilineally speaking.
In house of the dragon House Hightower will be the Lannisters of the story
Hightowers are the ancestors of Tyrells. They're probably better than the Lannisters, I doubt Margaery's family comes from such an insane house.
@@maximelover3314 he meant in being the antagonists the way the Lannisters were the antagonists in game of thrones
Otto hightower had a good idea when he suggested Aegon marry Rhanera. Viserys thought that was a stupid idea but didn't really think him marrying his cousin or the daughter of his hand was a stupid idea tho.😭
He was 2 🤣🤣

Awesome video! Please do a video that focuses on Rhaenyra. Something is up with that girl! There are a few inconsistencies that Have always gotten to me. First, the Christian Cole heal-turn against her. That story never made sense to me how he could turn so hard against her. It made me think that we are missing something or supposed to be reading some thing that isn’t spoken about Rhaenyra. Another thing that doesn’t make sense to me about Rhaenyra is that her father often brought her to council meetings and she grew up training to be the leader... but then when she became a leader, she made some really bad decisions that I found a bit surprising for her character. Which leads me to my last thing that I find odd about her character... she evolved from the “realms delight”, to a pretty aweful and incompetent ruler. Is that too harsh for her? What is the underlying message there, that grief can destroy you? She had a lot to grieve and I get that grief is different for everybody, but Good Queen Alysanne also has a lot to grieve, warred with her husband towards the end, but never lost herself like it seems Rhaenyra did and that’s saying something because Rhaenyra seemed more prepared to be queen than Alysanne...
I always wonder why Christon Cole suddenly switched for Alicent. Rumors had it that they were lovers (Christon and Rhaenyra) then again, there's another rumor saying that Rhaenyra tried to seduce Cole and failed...
Could be GRRM was borrowing from historical events again, in order to propel ASOIAF's plot forward. That is, the attempt by princess Matilda to become the first Queen of England, which caused a civil war, that ended when her son became king. Any attempt by a woman to ascend to a throne only held by men before, tends to be bloody. I think GRRM was exploring that here. Also the pointlessness of war, how no one really wins in the end.
I also think he's using this plot to explain how the fall of the Tygaryens begun because of infighting and missed opportunities. I also don't understand why Rhaeynera becomes incompetent even though she was exposed to the rigors of rulling by her father. My guess is that the corruption had greatly infected the Tygaryen rulling council at this point in time, that there's not much Rhaeynera could've learnt from them about rulling effectively. Basically king Viserys was an incompetent ruler and thus a bad teacher? Sought of like Geoffrey being expected to be a competent king after being trained by Robert. To be the best, you've got to learn from the best right? Say, Rhaeynera had been trained directly by Alysanne and Jahaerys. Perhaps she would have become an astute ruler.
ngl I really love Alicent's energy....I admire her ability to be able to put up with all the bullshit her father pushed her to do
When reading Fire and Blood I found myself taking Mushroom's point of view with a grain of salt. That dude's mind was constantly in the gutter.
Thanks for the JUICE!!!! What about Saera Targaryen who might have had a child w/ a Hightower? If so Alicent Hightower could’ve had Targaryen (Valyrian) blood & perhaps more to it than we see? There’s even comments of Jaehaerys calling Alicent by the name of his daughter, Saera, many times. They had a very close relationship as well... Lastly, Saera supposedly disappeared from Oldtown without anybody knowing? How could that happen if not for the Hightower family helping her?
D Halps saw this theory on an Order of the Green hand video
Ya boy Ed Thanks Ed! Saw this a while ago! See you’re well informed! Great video... Might have to watch it again. Lol.
Most of all I look forward to The Battle Above The Gods Eye.
I hope the series will concentrate its story around The Dance of Dragons and only show the conquer, Maegor the Cruel and the Old king in flash backs. The dance is filled with interesting characters and dramatic moments.
Your breakdowns are so helpful
Alicent is definitely playing the game in the show already, but only because her father expects her to do so. Like, I’m getting some Asian parents vibes from Otto. Should be interesting to see how things devolve in later episodes
Hey Gray Area, would you be interested in doing a video on the dysfunctional dynamics of the key members of House Lannister? When it comes to Lord Tywin's relationships with his children to their relationships with each other, I think there might be more than meets the eye... From a psychological analysis perspective. Think "Flowers In The Attic"... How can they all loathe and constantly undermine each other so much, and yet they're constantly and incestuously intertwined in each other's lives? It's like they're addicted to the drama and to each other... I would like to see that idea explored much more. Human psychology is fascinating.
Margery is related to Alicent--her mother was Alerie Hightower.
With the juice to get me through the long night !!!! U forgot the last part!!! Loll
LOVE YOU 💙💙💙
I think she is the granddaughter to the old king. Her mother may have been his daughter who ran away from old town. It maybe that the Hightower's impregnated her and once the child came they sent her to the brothel in essos
This was so good, CAN NOT EVEN WAIT til the Daemon video! :heart eyes:
Jaehaerey was a good king but very misogynist. He promised his wife that the first born grand child regardless of sex will ascend the throne but he quickly walked that back when it was a girl.
At first I was a fan of the Blacks but after reading about the Blood and Cheese incident along with Helaena and her children's death I stopped liking them. The only people I sympathize with is Helaena, Daeron, and the children from both sides. I honestly feel that both Aegon II and Rhaenyra would have been bad rulers, and this whole war was just senseless.
like most wars in our real world. iraq and afghanistan are the proof of it.
well Daemon was the master of whisperers/littlefinger type of person, so that's how he viewed revenge.
@@bensonfang1868 Agreed, Daemon is already a hot-headed person in a good day, and he was responding to the murder of his step-son. Something that even the kindest person would harshly react to.
@@anne-kathrinhohlig1466 Iraq was senseless, but Afghanistan was textbook in being a justified war. Taliban was supporting Al Qaeda in repeated attacks against the US, after all.
The Blood and Cheese was Daemon's answer to Rhaenyra's Lucerys being killed by Aemond when he was only delivering a message to Borros Barantheon. It sucked that they did what they did to Haleana though. Poor Helaena.
I’ve always hated all the Greens and glad they got cooked, but alsoo something always bothers me about Daemon grooming Rhaenyra since she was a kid...he’s a creep
That's the thing... in the books, GRRM calls out groomers. Daemon didn't treat Rhaenyra in a sexualized way and Daemon didn't spend a lot of time in KL when she was growing up. The one who IS side-eyed as a groomer is COLE. Alicent: "Ser Cole protects the Princess, but who protects the Princess from Ser Cole?"
Do y’all think Rhaenyra would have been a great queen from the beginning had Alicent tried not to replace her with Aegon II? I always wonder what could have been. 🥺
I think her father set her up for failure marrying her to Laenor... & tbh I don’t think Alicent’s children would have been safe.. they were a threat because Rhaenyra’s 1st 3 children were indeed bastards
GrayArea honestly, yeah. There was a serious lack of planning and carefulness on Viserys’ part. That screwed everybody 🤷🏽♀️
I think that if there is no conflict with Aegon II (or Viserys never remarried), her reign would be...interesting. Idk about being a great queen, but she certainly would change a lot and many would challenge her still (if there is no Aegon II--she's still a woman on Iron throne, there would be different challenges than just civil war). And being married to Laenor and having those 3 "strong" boys definitely would not help her reputation. But her having dragons would definitely help quiet things down lol.
Viserys should’ve just let his daughter marry his bro Daemon and let it be done
Rhanera's reign would have been questioned constantly. Not only is she a girl but she also has what is supposed to be the biggest sin in westros three bastard heirs and Aegons true born son would be an automatic replacement. Either she makes Aegon's son heir over her own or she has her 4th born son ( definitely Daemon's and trueborn) become heir. But she wouldn't even get that far because she'd have Alicent and Otto hightower constantly trying undermine anything she does or would do. Otto hightower would likely try to remove her sons as heir for Aegon's son and Alicent would likey try to have her removed from living period.
What do you think of the possibility that Alicent was Jahaerys' granddaughter through Saera? He mistakes her for his daughters and is convinced that she's Saera in his last days and her children with Viserys look more Valyrian than Rhaenyra's children with her boyfriend. Since Saera went missing in Old Town and didn't appear again until a year later. That's a lot of time to have a child and then be sent away to hide what happened.
Winter Wolf isn’t that theory from the order of the green hand
It’s a popular theory. Lots of people came to the Saera=Alicent conclusion
@@alistairrae9807 Yes, I saw it on there first which made me go back and look that period over in F&B myself. It seems pretty solid, so I was interested to see if others thought the same.
Saera left Oldtown in 85 aC, Alicent was born three years later in 88 AC. It's just impossible for them to be related.
I can't wait for House of the Dragon! I would love to see Alicent portrayed this way. Bring on the Dragon Drama!

Alicent Hightower is not insane like Cersei thou lol. Alicent, at one point, preferred to just split the territory with Rhaenyra (obviously too little too late at that point) and her son. And when Aemond took out Lucerys after their chance meeting at the Barantheons, both Otto and Alicent were shocked and unhappy since now their side (The Greens) 'drew first blood' so any diplomacy talk would not work out and Rhaenyra would have to take revenge since one of her sons was killed.

Comparing Ser Otto Hightower to Lord Tywin is a joke... the man had bitten more than he was able to chew!
A comparison to (book) Mace Tyrell would be more fitting
Michèl Morio bro Otto was hand of the king forever he just got to big for his britches and over reached
AlexOne I wasn‘t speaking of the time he served... rather the power he as hand symbolizes... which he is FAR from Tywin!
No Lord (which he even wasn‘t) that serves as Hand can compare to the power of a Hand from one of the Major Houses, not even from House Hightower which might be the most powerful of the ‚lesser‘ houses...
He might have had ambitions in the league of Tywin, but certainly nor the power/influence nor the (family) power base like a LORD of the Rock, especially that Lord who might have been the most influential and powerful lord throughout Westerosi history
Otto Hightower's tenure as Hand of the King is remembered with disgrace, as a reminder of what NOT to do as Hand.

Thank You for this video & analysis! This was some "tea" for sure.
There are definitely clues that Cersei is the Green Queen (I recently did a video on this), but the Dance of Dragons is a mirror - Cersei plays Queen Rhaenyra's part. Allicent is probably a mirror of Margaery Tyrell. (Margaery's mother is a Hightower, too.) This is a fun topic and it's great to see you back with the juice!

If I look back I am lost.
I would love a video on Unwin Peake and if you believe he had Jaehaera killed... if not who did 👀
If Dance of the Dragons is the plot of House of the Dragon, it's such a long period of time, that they'll have to do several time jumps or condense time to keep the pace of the seasons going.

I am a simple man, and I want Daemon Targaryen video
Queen Alicent (and Cersei) like her real life inspirations Queen Isabelle de France, Queen Margaret de France and Queen-mother Margaret Beaufort are simply despicable human beings that knew no moral borders, even the medieval had some of them, willing to do almost any atrocity to reach their goals.

There are much better antagonists, ‚villains‘ and female characters in general in all of Martin’s books
Lol the exact reason I love them is because of how truly they awful they all are like you described
Nah I disagree, Alicent for the win, y’all just mad Rhaenyra too busy getting “busy” with her cousins and uncles then actually preparing herself like a queen should have, there’s a reason Aegon II bodied her ass.
@@indigo3896 I'm queen Alicent all the way.
One thing that gets to me is that Allicent was described as resembling Saerra... and Jaeherys frequently called her by that name. So... she looks Targaryen... perhaps without the purple eyes, but who knows? I think the Maesters/Hightowers did conspire to rid the world of dragons... the first time... every time... and infiltrating the red keep and sparking discontent that led to the Dance.

I’m probably going to root for the black too, but I can somewhat see Alicent’s side. If I had to have sex with a rusty old king, I’d expect something to come from it. But she knew the deal and she should’ve respected her king’s wishes.
Yassss she’s back!! Lol hope your safe!
this explanation of family history is so comprehensible!
The King by law or the Queen by appointment.
In the end, the king cannot appoint whoever he wishes to be there for the hair. No one is above the law not even Kings
Great as always. Thank you
Who is here after Episode 6 ?
When you said she wanted to put that other boys eye out I lost it 😂 He’s 5!!!!!
She was a mess, they are making her way more sympathetic in the show
@@GrayArea still feel like she going for that eye; I can see with what Alicents going thru that she’s quickly gonna say fuck them kids
I want to know more about Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen + Roberts rebellion… I really wish they did a show about that.
Alicents line died with Margery
watching this after watching the last two episodes of HotD
Alicent's misuse of the dagger twice already, when she attempted to remove Luc's eye, and when she just gaslit herself about the prophecy, I think they made her more impulsive and protective of her children, more like book Cersei. Instead of kissing and making up with Rhaenyra, she said NAH, FUCK THAT😂
Olivia Cooke is gonna kill it as Alicent 🔥
Where do you get these great pics of all these characters!?! I know some are just stills from the history & lore videos from TDOD and whatever but like the one of her holding the flower and the people in the back hating on her lol
There are many great artist that do A song of Ice and Fire art. The art credits are in the description box.
Here in 2022
Thank you so much sweet summer mother
I'm here after the Oct 2021 trailer came out. The theories seem right. The cat's paw seems to be the dagger involved in the children's spat @12:30
hey could you please do Helaena Targaryen video if there any more information about her?
Love the content bro! Subscribed and binging your content
Mushroom... what a reliable source of Information 👍🏻😂 I would rather rely on Roman historians when collecting information about their enemies then on him!
And just with a little wink... there isn‘t always some super secret conspiracy behind EVERYTHING; neither in Westeros, nor in our history! Some things just happen and people took advantage of the situation! That doesn‘t mean there had to be some secret operations behind any event or long developed plans... sometimes, it is just coincidence and people are in the right place to act on behalf of their interests and/or ambitions!
It would get pretty boring if that weren‘t the case, as it gets boring, when almost every person fakes their death or true identity just to make some thin theories of parts of the fandom fitting
But it appears this is a form of social cancer of our time... conspiracy theories everywhere, just to find explanations WHY and HOW things came to happen we have no answers to... in the past, people at least had the creativity to invent gods and religions to explain things they couldn‘t explain themself
Great vid. I vote for Theon 'The Hungry Wolf' Stark.
Great juice boo!
What does Anne Boleyn have to do with this video? 🤣🤣
That being said, love your videos! I, too, stand by Daenerys! 🖤
