This is such a helpful episode. There’s a book coming out next year by a sweet pea grower in Oregon, I believe, that targets American sweet pea growers. I recently read 2 books on growing sweet peas. One was helpful on the history and varieties of sweet peas, but both were written by UK growers and targeted UK gardeners. Growing sweet peas in our American south is a different ballgame. (I learned from the one book to avoid “Spencer” varieties and to look for early blooming varieties if I lived in the South.) I’m looking forward to the 2025 pub. of the new book.
Thanks so much for sharing, and that definitely sounds like a great book to be on the lookout for! Wishing you a wonderful day and lots of sweet peas next spring 💚🤗💚
This episode is so TIMELY--Just planted my sweet pea seedlings 3 days ago(started as you had recommended) --I used 1 qt milk cartons cut off at 7 inches. They germinated in 3-4 days outside on my deck. I give you ALL the credit for this! A surprise bonus--when I planted them in the prepared bed, dozens of sweet peas from last year had germinated and were coming up so we shall see which ones perform better next spring. I am in 8b and rarely get below 20 degrees--would that temperature be ok without protection?
Fantastic! Yes, your sweet peas should do fine without protection in zone 8b. It will be interesting to compare the self-sown ones to your transplants next year! Best of luck, and have a lovely day 💚🤗💚
I simply love sweet peas! Thanks for the tips!
Same! 😍 Best of luck with your sweet peas, and have a great day 💚🤗💚
On some walking trails in Colorado, the sweet peas grow wide on the trails. Great scents!
Oh, wow - how amazing! 😍 Thanks so much for sharing, and have a wonderful day 💚🤗💚
