@dovgidesign I just finally got a jacket and new helmet. I went with the Bilt mesh jacket and a Level 1 back pad. Sedici Strada 2 helmet. Love them both. I tried on a number of jackets and the Bilt was the most comfortable while moving around
Minimum gear: ECE or higher rated helmet, DOT and SNELL are bullshit. CE Level 2 spine plate. Longest your jacket will except or use a standalone. Gloves with heat resistance and strong construction at a minimum. Any less than this you’re asking for it. Only reason boots aren’t listed is because this is a bare minimum list, not the recommended. @@BulkierFive921upgrade yourself to a level 2 pad. They’re not expensive and they do far better in a crash. Usually you can find ones made just for your jacket.

Old story from my folks. A friend of theirs was an early adopter of full face helmets when the started to come on the market ('70s I think), and his friends gave him all sorts of grief until he laid his bike down at speed. Other than a few bumps and bruises he was fine, but the helmet has been sanded down through the outer shell; pretty much everyone went and bought full face after that. (The shop where he got it had it on display in their helmet section for years)
Yup. My dad got knocked off his bike at town speeds. Flew across the road and landed on his temple on the tarmac. Fiberglass helmet ground through, too. But he walked away. Some back injuries and grazes elsewhere. But he would have died for sure, no helmet. Bike lived on. Ford Escort that hit him did not!
I like to compare speed, depends where I am I cycle 24-28mph but up to 43mph when down hill with a flat front, I go without glasses as I found when cycling the wind flies over or under the glasses and into my eyes and makes them water so I go without so I can see
I low sided at ~30 mph on an on-ramp. Was wearing a padded motorcycle jacket, helmet, and leather gloves, but only had pants and normal shoes. Ripped up my knee and hip a bit and sprained my toes on one foot. My jacket was torn through all 4 layers on the arm but miraculously my arm was completely fine. It also ripped through three layers of the leather padding on the palm of my gloves, but once again my hands were fine. Even though i ride a moped, I never go without any of my gear anymore.
Hello, you say you ripped your knee and hip, do you think if I wore knee and hip padding that I would be okay in most crashes or do you recommend more please? I'm thinking denim would GLUE itself to the road.
@@dianarune9704 I would recommend armored/padded motorcycle pants that zip into a motorcycle jacket. Normal pants like jeans or sweatpants will tear away nearly instantly on contact with the road. The reason my hip got torn up is because my motorcycle jacket slid up when I crashed leaving my hip exposed. If you get a jacket that zippers into motorcycle pants, it won’t be able to ride up when you crash.
Thank you i see so many people riding motorcycles cycles with a t shirt shorts and bike helmet if none at all I’m happy that someone on this earth has brain cells when it comes to safety

Gloves do little to protect the bones/joints of the hand aside from the knuckles. They can’t provide any support as you have to, well, move your hand. They are great for abrasion though. The best gloves try their very best to make your hand slide instead of catch on the ground by using hard plastic palm sliders on the lower palm area.

Yeah, even short rides, full gauntlet gloves and riding shoes/boots. Maybe a light jacket and jeans for short city rides, but anything that gets faster than 70km/h and i wear everything
I was in a motorcycle accident. Had a helmet on. That saved my life as my head went through the windshield of the car that hit me. I only had my padded riding jacket on. I was just going a couple miles to the gym. Jeans & running shoes. My foot got bent all the way back and my legs were pretty bruised. Where the jacket and helmet were everything was fine. Protective gear works.
I slid on ice two months into riding. Decided for the first time ever to not wear my jacket but did wear my kevlar trousers. Had small gloves which ripped open on contact breaking my knuckle and finger. Had burns all over my arms through three layers didn't realise until the next day. No damage to my legs at all, ego damaged a lot though 😅Will always wear my leathers now!!
I agree with not wearing sneakers, I made the mistake of wearing them riding to my local Starbucks to meet up with a buddy and we were then going to his garage to start converting out Sportbikes to track only bikes. 2 miles from home and well I’m lucky to still have my foot. Now I only wear riding boots when riding no matter how close to home I’m going along with all the gear.
1 fall was enough to scare me into being a full gear guy, dislocated my elbow tweaked my wrist something fierce, all from a pretty slow drop when I first started
I DESTROYED my foot two weeks ago wearing sneakers on my Fz6 😣😣 front breaks were not releasing pressure normally so they locked up on me around a turn and the bike fell. the bike peg bounced off my foot twice. I haven’t worked in two week. Not broken but LISTEN to this man. Boots or nothing.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR VIDEOS....I crashed for the first time going to pick my wife up the other day and thanks to your videos I had all my Gear on and still got to pick her up!!! Love the vids man thank you so much.ALWAYS WEAR YORU GEAR GUYS!
I have a buddy the crashed because someone pulled out in front of him. He went sliding a long way but had full gear. There he was go to go in the regard. Only issue was he slid under another vehicle. Broke some bones in his neck and leg but he lived. His doc told him he would be dead with out gear.
After using the center kickstand on my Honda interceptor, 500 and pinning my leg against the parking lot lights with the concrete base and my super hot muffler. Turning my calf liquid skin all bubbly I never wore shorts again. Hard lesson at 16 lol
As someone who makes a living working with my hands, I always wear gloves but I would never even think about using my hands to break my fall. Tuck and roll baby.
I've been riding for 35 yr .never dropped a bike never had an accident. My dad told me assume nobody sees you and always drive with your head .if you come up to an intersection slow down if it's at night swerve a little as you get close to the intersection as to shine your headlight at the cars about to pull out into your path. Be safe drive safe and be aware of your surroundings at all times .
People really need to understand how dangerously others are driving now. And the worst part about a crash is not knowing you're going to crash, until you are crashing. The best you can do is prep for the unknown.
Years ago was riding home. Luckily, I had on boots, jeans, riding jacket made out of fighter, jet, polyurethane, gloves and a helmet someone hit me and threw me over the left side of my handlebars, and then could care less if I was dead or alive in the road. Luckily, though like I said I was protected the only thing I suffered was a very bad bruised hip.
Oh man be protected, stay safe.I was riding my bicycle other day going around 35mph down the hill and i fell on my back my skin and my clothes were all ripped, imagine what would happen to you going 70mph don't even wanna talk about going higher than that, stay safe.
Dirtbike rider here, boots gloves and helmets are beyond essential. I've been saved from countless serious injuries due to those three pieces of equipment.
I wear knee pads that protect my shin and knee, I wear riding boots, I wear leather gloves that are also reinforced and I have a nice helmet as well, only piece of gear left is the jacket.
I'm impressed you ever considered riding without proper gear. I dropped my 135kg 125cc Yamaha a few weeks ago and my foot got caught underneath it at a bad angle. If it wasn't for the full-height riding boots, I'd have multiple broken bones to deal with. Instead, I just have an overstretched ligament that's almost healed. Always wear your gear.
My dad let me get my motorcycle license when I was 16 and bought me a bike. Initially I had a lot of bulky and very uncool looking gear. My dad realizing that got me Kevlar jeans and riding shoes. He said I got you this because I don’t ever want you to ride without full gear because your safety matter but I also get not wanting to look like a fireman. Bout a week after that he and my mom got thrown off their motorcycle. We laughed because you could see bruises were there were no pads but they were completely uninjured. Moral is wear your gear folks
My ex descriptive geometry teacher is an avid biker and cyclist, and once upon a time me and some friends were talking with him, and at one point he handed me the same black jacket in the video. It’s heavy as hell, and for good reason. I’m glad he wears safety gear, and if I ever get a motorcycle, I’ll definitely do the same.
This could save lives...had a very close friend lose his life on a bike, and he was wearing denim shorts and pair of sunglasses. That was it. I have his riding gloves and some pieces of the bike. Just because you think it's cool, doesn't mean your family needs to carry your casket. Ride safe guys and gals
Glad to see videos like this. I know it’s tempting to wear less gear, especially in the heat of summer…but remember: if you’re that much of a pansy, just drive your car.
Heat stroke ain't no joke make sure to stay hydrated camel bags are good since they have a bladder in the back pack so you can drink while you ride as well
Amen brother. I need to drop some money on some riding shoes but other than that I never ride without a helmet or gloves. If I ever ride with short sleeve shirt I got elbow pads.
The funny thing is when I got my worst moto injury, the only thing I was wearing besides gloves and a bullshit non DOT German helmet were 400 dollar Alpinestar boots. I had a hoodie and regular jeans on. Guess which bodypart was the only one to get damaged? My ankle and foot lol. It appears the boot did absolutely nothing on one of the weakest crashes I've ever had. Put me out of work for 6 months with a shattered ankle and every bone in my foot broken.
You may never need any of these things, but when you do it's worth it. All the gear all the time. Spend the money......your skin and body are worth it.
I used to ride in shorts, tshirt, and a helmet because helmet is required by law. I wrecked twice on the dirt back roads heading home at night. I landed on my feet both times, then fell over. It all happened so damn fast. Never got hurt, minor road rash. Helmet flew off cuz i didn't buckle it. If i ever get a bike again im getting the full outfit. Can't believe how dumb i was back then.
I got alpinestar riding shoes/high tops I love them I’m hoping next summer to get my license, I bought the bike and gear early cause I was scared to even ride around my parents neighborhood cause of other people possibly hitting me now that I’m getting comfortable going around the neighborhood I’m hoping to move onto the street in the new year :) I didn’t wanna push myself and spend the 1200$ extra on the mandatory class just to learn if I’m comfortable I did how ever buy all the gear cause u can’t be to safe :) I can’t wait I’m so excited!!! I got the new Daniese spotavia 2023 white black and grey it was on sale and it’s full leather with padding I’m hoping if I do fall it will keep me protected I’ve seen some bad wipe outs and heard some crazy stories so I didn’t cheap out :)I hope one day to motovlog/motocamping for my channel :) ur videos pushed me to buy my bike it’s a 1982 Suzuki GS400T it’s small enough for me to ride and it has cheaper insurance and it gets me around town :) unfortunately I’ll have to rent a bike to get the full bike license but still for what I need it’s perfect and my dad actually used to have the GS550 before I was born which is a cool extra fact in my opinion

I was just going a couple miles to the gym. Jeans & running shoes. My foot got bent all the way back and my legs were pretty bruised. Where the jacket and helmet were everything was fine. Protective gear works.
man has to spend 30 mins getting ready to take a 5 min ride to the gas station
it takes you 30 minutes to put on some boots, gloves and a jacket?
Lol even if it did take that long better then being in the hospital for weeks, or with a broken bone/s for months
@@awannabe-_-nerd true
Have the same jacket for 6 years... Love it.. Just clean it,
Wax and looks like new
As someone from Texas who uses majority of boots i recommend sting ray boots since they are super tuff and durable boots
Riding without gear will eventually give you an Darwin award.
Once you take a spill, you know how much it hurts, live to ride another day
Dress for da slide my guy got all the box’s checked
After using the center kickstand on my Honda interceptor, 500 and pinning my leg against the parking lot lights with the concrete base and my super hot muffler. Turning my calf liquid skin all bubbly I never wore shorts again. Hard lesson at 16 lol
As someone who makes a living working with my hands, I always wear gloves but I would never even think about using my hands to break my fall. Tuck and roll baby.
Wow this dude is actually really smart!
He rides in his riding gear which protects him!
Wow, I usually just put them on for fancy looks.
" This is why im no longer wearing sneakers when i ride my bike "
* shows a sneaker *
just got in my first accident 2 days ago. never riding without full gear ever again
For what I can remember, I never rode my motorcycle without gloves and jacket.
This is true. Wearing the propwr can be the difference between going home annoyed thay your bike is damaged versus going to the hospital
Been there and I definitely recommend full gear all the time! Saved my ass literally lol 😅
Fr gloves are insanely helpful especially when it's hot outside and your hands and slippery as hell on the grips
My biker neighbour always used say to his son "Dress for the fall, not for the mall"
As og bikers used to "we'd rather sweat than bleed"
that's another reason why I am designing a military grade suit
Yep. Low side sliding next to your bike. My leathers did me good.
Can we take a moment to appreciate the time taken to cut out the cardboard gixxer armor 😂😂
The first shoe u showed I got on right now just tied them up and about head out for work. Crazy
I will forever be thankful for my jacket and gloves and helmet during my lowside
In texas its currently a few degrees away from pizza oven so i dont fuck around with gear i choose skill
Bro would have an aneurism if he came to Florida😂😂
i woulod never drive a motorcyle without those things
Ice packs in the summer dude, the ones that freeze for sports injuries are better because they are flexible they fit well inside the jacket.
Preach!! I don't see how ppl ride without gloves.
Glad to see videos like this. I know it’s tempting to wear less gear, especially in the heat of summer…but remember: if you’re that much of a pansy, just drive your car.
My dad would threaten that if he ever caught any of us on a bike without the proper gear he would go at us with a cheese grater
As a motorcross rider, a neck brace is rule no.1
Heat stroke ain't no joke make sure to stay hydrated camel bags are good since they have a bladder in the back pack so you can drink while you ride as well
I wish I could wear leather down here in Arizona!
If i need a whole astronaut suit just to be safe i think I'd rather walk
You don’t dress for the ride, you dress for the fall.
You used to ride without gloves and with sneaks? Definite GSXR rider.
Road rash is gnarly. Reddit has some gnarly showcases
that aprilla is sick af
Sneakers while riding is just outrageous
Yeah no crap man I've never ride without either I've always worn boots and gloves
heavy denim also works great too for protection if it's to hot for leather
