Nice visualization. I'd like to add another point: on the drydock tour recently, our guide from the battleship foundation talked about the four columns on her starboard side that stabilized the Texas over at its San Jacinto berth. They allowed the ship to ride up and down with the water level without having to worry about ropes parting or chains pulling out during storms. The system evidently worked so well that they plan to install the columns again at the Texas's new berth. He said the columns were extracted from her old berth very soon after she moved, and they are currently in storage somewhere awaiting reuse.
Great rendition showing the scale. For note: they intend for the Texas to be roughly about 100 yards further to the right, with a majority of the stern closer towards the Ocean Star. The onboarding ramp/elevator will be down at the far right of the pier, which will lead out to walkways towards the front and middle of the ship.
For what its worth, the Texas will need to be moored further to the right so that the stern does not overhang the entrance to the party boat dock area. Also, from time to time, the Elissa will use the dock area to the left, where the small white boat is docked. Other than that, what a lineup the Galveston Historic Seaport will have. Carnival Cruise ships, Fertitta's yacht, the Elissa, the Texas, and the drilling rig.
Royal Caribbean built it's own dock but it is separated by some distance and the Del Monte Fruit dock. It's hard to imagine but the RCL cruise ships are roughly 10x the size of the Texas.@@BELCAN57
They need to purchase some land adjacent to water and dig out a dock. Then place concrete on the bottom and some sort of platform for the ship to sit upon. Fill in a levy behind the ship and drain out the water. Then build some sort of dome covering the ship. It will protect the vessel for years to come. leaving it in saltwater will just lead to more corrosion.
Thank you for doing that. Great job. I used to live in League City and kept my boat at the Galveston Yacht Basin. I have really good memories of fishing around there. Signed, Land Locked in TN
@@ThirdCoastDrone i’ve given up on it too. I have watched videos that say they can help you figure out the algorithm. I’m not sure there’s any real figuring it out. Unless you have 500,000 or better subscribers, it seems to all be a crapshoot, but I’m OK with that because I still have fun doing it. As I know you do too.
Thanks for that. I've had trouble envisioning what it would look like and the proportions. I admit it would be easy peasy to just slide her across the channel, but given the visitor center they want to put in place, looks like they would have to get rid of Harbor House Hotel. I'm not 100% convinced they will park her right where she would block the view of everything currently at Pier 21. But if not there, it will be very very close, and will still cost a lot of $$$ for prep work!
I was the first member of the General public to step foot on the Elissa in 82..(I think 82) they took my picture but didn't give me a plaque or anything 😂😂. I was 14
If i had to guess, the bow would be closer to the oil drilling museum. As I understand it, the owner of that restaurant still wants berthing room for their boat.
I am not sure if Pier 21 be the home spot for it... but if you look alittle to the end of the waterway, you see the other museum ships in that spot which is the seawolf park.. the submarine and that escort destroyer... theres space there for the Battleship to be place... i figure that be a good spot... other than that... if you think about where the small area the few boats are parked... the end of the ship would be in the way or the front of the ship as well... so I honestly don't know... other than that, i love to see Texas having its new home again...

The Texas is big, but she's still very old, basically a prototype for what would be the Standard line of battleships. She's small compared to the later battleships we're used to, especially so compared to the much later WW2-era ones that are actually preserved.
Money they didn’t have enough visitors to support the normal cost to keep it up or run the museum. On any setting it’s all about location, the draw of visitors should double or triple.
And the other guy said money. Her old home is an industrial area so not much tourost traffic here at 21 much better chance for funds so she doesn't get so bad again
San Jacinto to be such a important part of our history is just a very bad location because of all the industrial around it, get to it is not pleasant. Visitors to the park I believe will drop even more due to Texas moving😢. The new location will allow Texas to have a high draw of tourists which will increase its funding. The park because of its location was killing Texas because no one wanted to go there because of its location being so hard to get to. It should have been a great spot but no one other than Texans care about it.
That be worse then water. Ships are designed for water pressure. Victory os runni g into issues with her drydock amd the Mikasa is practically ruined i. Her concrete coffin
It's sad she's been in there for over a year now and still doesn't have a confirmed home to go to after. Any work needing to be done will just further delay her reopening to the public and hurt her financially.
The memorial battleship North Carolina (BB-55) used to be in overall Haze Gray but was thankfully repainted in a dazzle camouflage scheme. Texas will be repainted in Measure 21 overall Navy Blue which she wore at the end of the war. Other historical wartime schemes for Texas would be either Measure 22 (Haze Gray upper-works and hull above the sheer line and Navy Blue below) or modified Measure 12 (Ocean Gray base color with Sea Blue or Navy Blue splotches on the hull and Haze Gray splotches on the upper-works).

As I understood it from the group and the tour, the ship's starboard side will be in the channel. Therefor, You won't see the pylons from the pier
Thank you so much for posting. We went to see the Texas a few times over the years. I love that old girl, and am thrilled to see her being saved.

The destroyer and sub is still in Galveston at Seawolf state park.
Just took a cruise out of Galveston and took some nice pictures of her. Can’t wait to visit when she’s open again to visitors.
Great use of drone and photo capture! It really does give you a sense of how the USS Texas will look.
Thank you,
Thanks for the great areal view. Great pictures. Don't come down South much. But find it very interesting. Waco, Tx. 😁👍 Again, great job. 🇺🇲

Very well done video. Thanks for your work on this. Just found the channel. Instant sub!!
super cool
Great work.
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice video. I’m still concerned about the proximity to all that salt spray from Galveston Bay. I’d hate for all this work to be undone soon.
She's been in brackish water for decades. Not much will change with this move.
Ships are made for the ocean. ie, salt water.
That came out really good, I would suspect you’d get a lot of views on this one.
I have given up on guessing the good videos flop.

Thanks😊

Even with texas moored there it will be a great draw to the area. 😊
Hope so!
@ThirdCoastDrone well a hotel right there they will help eachother. I think Texas' biggest issue is the current economy

What happened to the plans, to build a permanent mooring back on Buffalo Bayou?

why is the ships hull black 3:21

Dark Blue.
I thought they were building an out of water pier for the Texas to sit on…..
Its actually safer for ships to stay in the water. Voctory os running intp many ossues because she is drydocked
Putting back in the water is going to damage it again, It would be better to put on stilts or in concrete. Just Say'n

Why doesn't Texas painted in haze Grey. The color it is ugly .
Im a 10 year navy vet just need the haze grey
The ship will be painted to match its last wartime paint scheme. I don't like it myself, but the logic is sound.
It's a protective coating, not paint. Her paint scheme will be the original 1940s navy blue.
there is a new video from these guys with Her new paint job.
