Toyota blew it by not making second row seats that slide, by ruining 3rd row legroom, and by making a useless cargo area…all so they could replace the V8 with a V6 hybrid. GM hasn’t walked into that trap yet, which is what makes the Yukon the clear winner here.

The denali is truly an upscale luxury vehicle so they intentionally keep their engines quiet enough that it won't annoy you but you know it is there when you really get on it. We drive a denali and we always look for one on turo when traveling.

This is my first time owning a full sized SUV and after driving the ‘24 Sequoia Platinum for the past six weeks, here are my observations. First the seats are firmer compared to the Expedition Limited and Infinity QX80. Gas Mileage 13-15MPG City 18-23MPG Hwy. it is more fuel efficient to use “Normal” mode when driving on city streets with stop and go traffic. Full tank on a road trip is approximately 450miles. The drive is very comfortable.
There’s seems to be an issue with the power liftgate. If you opened the rear hatch and not made sure it was completely shut, you will have the error tone when using the liftgate. Indoor cabin is very quiet, ventilated and heated seats are very comfortable. The vehicle does not have the Toyota “Digital Key”but the Toyota App for remote start and lock/unlock works. I am unsure why it was not available. For charging your phones, this comes with both USB A and USB C ports. It doesn’t have the traditional “cigarette adapter”.

As someone who owned a 1st gen sequoia for many years, it’s sad to see how they handled the 3rd row with this new gen. I would’ve loved to get into a newer sequoia but that compromise makes it a hard sell vs competitors. I do think the seats and ergonomics are better on the sequoia’s interior tho. Yukon wins on styling too imo, those seats are just so flat and uncomfy

Y’all are always wanting to count *gm’s* pockets & their profit margins trying to determine what something’s worth is just from looking at it. That’s not how this works. You can’t tell how much development costs are just from looking at something.
You intentionally left out the fact the sound system is a serious upgrade with speakers built into the seats & roof which costs money. You left out the fact it comes standard with Supercruise (worth $3k alone), massaging seats, and much more expensive leather and stitching throughout the interior. Also the attention to detail in the D. Ultimate as the regular Denali doesn’t have laser etched woods or topographical maps embedded into the leather. That kind of attention to detail costs money.

    • @ktpinnacle
      @ktpinnacle 6 місяців тому

@@G-Rated I didn't "leave out" the audio system upgrade. The audio system upgrade goes from 14 to 18 speakers, due to the headrest speakers. You can no longer get the 3K super cruise upgrade on the standard Denali without GMC adding another 3K in upgrades for a total of 6K in mandatory upgrades. The laser-etched leather and real woods still don't add up to 20K for me with the audio, radar chrome and massaging seats (which evidently are a better constructed seat as well - why not give a more comfortable seat to ALL Yukon buyers?).
I've been driving GM trucks since 1981 as daily drivers. Two K-Blazers and a Yukon that today has 365K miles on the same engine and transmission. I have no reason to look elsewhere unless I feel that GMC is picking my pocket. They have with this Ultimate version of the Yukon.

@@ktpinnacle You’re all over the place. The attention to detail and craftsmanship found in the D. Ultimate interiors you can’t put a price cap on because you have no clue how much of a premium GMC paid for the more expensive materials used throughout the whole truck. It’s expensive adding speaker systems into seating with fancy authentic metal grilles. That costs money. Real leather isn’t cheap either, that’s why luxury brands like Mercedes use faux leather called “MBTex” because real leather is so expensive. GMC went above/beyond by having their real leather engraved with topographical maps of Mount. Denali, the extra detailing throughout comes at an additional costs as well or else everyone selling a SUV in this segment would have it. That’s just _most_ of the interior.
      D. Ultimate also comes standard with air suspension, a bespoke chrome finish, and a unique set of intricately designed 22-inch wheels. Certainly reasonable to suspect at least $15k in upgrades here.

Oh yeah, that Sequoia works nicely until that turbo and/or that hybrid battery goes then it becomes a lawn ornament. Oh btw, the battery costs about $6K to replace and the turbocharger costs about $6,500.00. Toyota says the turbo will run between 100/125,000 miles and the battery should last about 150,000 miles but seeing as manufacturers lie all the damn time, I suspect those numbers are a lot lower. They'll just band-aid fix the problems until the truck is out of warranty and then it's "Oh your battery died? whaaat? Your turbo died and you have no power upon acceleration? OOOh, I'm sorry, it seems your warranty has expired. Unfortunately, you'll have to cover the cost out of pocket, F**K YOU, PAY ME!!!!

1.) This isn't the XL, and 2.) they are absolutely comparable. Google Yukon vs. Sequoia and you're going to see hundreds of articles. The ones you list are good comps too of course, but why would you exclude the Sequoia?

LOL. Expedition is definitely NOT in the same league as others you listed. But Navigator is.

Nothing wrong with the Sequoia... but the Yukon outclasses it in almost every way except towing. And it should be noted that the Yukon is getting a much bigger and improved infotainment screen (same one in the new Acadia) for 2025.
I'd definitely take the Yukon over the Sequoia... but since I can't afford either 🤷‍♂

There is a lot wrong with the Sequoia. I thought I was Toyota for life, but they missed the point of "large SUV" for the 3rd gen Sequoia. Unless you are 5'9" or less the 2nd and 3rd row simply don't work and the "cargo area" is near unusable with its "shelf"

The one real advantage for the Toyota is its looks. Out on the road in real life, it surprisingly looks very good compared to the Yukon which looks “meh”. I also think the interior design is better in the Toyota but it does not look as premium as the GMC.

Serious question. What height are you and your family? I test drove the 2024 Sequoia TRD Pro and had gone to the dealership intending to buy it# but I could NOT fit in the 2nd or 3rd row without breaking my neck. My daughters fit fine but they are under 5'8". I walked out without buying because despite the size on the outside, the inside wouldn't fit anyone 6ft+ which is a problem for half the people I carry.

You clearly haven't been paying attention to the Toyota/Lexus brand lately. Their engines/transmissions are failing after 10k miles. Dealers won't even take 2022/2023 models back on trades because they're so plagued with problems.

Toyota has issued recalls for various reasons. But recalls, while unpleasant, are good - it shows the manufacturer is willing to fix issues. Toyota has a stellar reputation for reliability - they’re not going to tarnish that.
