Not only is Greg an outstanding guitar player, he's also a very nice guy as a person. Those of us who have acually met him appreciate his humbleness. He doesn't make a lot of wind - he delivers and has an incredible knowledge about guitars and amps. Rock on, Greg!
since i discovered this guitarist/song/sound...a couple of weeks ago...i drop by frequently...there's something addicting to this guitarist/song/sound.
Greg -- I first learned of you while searching YT for an ES335 review and I've been through most of your clips. Your playing--tone, technique, compositions--has knocked me out! Thank you. Just received "Blue In Red," "Golden Voice Blues," and "Sweet Rain" (from CD Baby). I'm ordering your other CDs. "Blue in Red" is on the stereo, second time through. NICE! Quality speaks for itself. Great sidemen! --GH fan in Northern California UA-camrs: Buy Greg's music. He's good. Support him!
Thanks a lot. No problem. The most people like the music and the sound. But it is normal that some people have different taste and they show their opinion it with a comment. That's ok!
Klasse, klasse, endlich wieder mal ein "richtigen" Gitarrenton. So muss es klingen, statt dem albernen Tiefton-Metal-Gedröhne, von diese Nichtskönnern ! Excellent guitar Sound !!!!!
glorious ...do more the world needs more of this tonality ... way too many ppl playing the same shit without the nuances and tonal acrobatics ... teach the world ...my new soulmate you , sir ... get a hug
I didn't pick up a guitar until I was 34 (I'm 48 now). I couldn't play a note then, and believe me it has been slow work ever since! I guess I'm not qualified to say much, I'm not even a jazz fan, but I enjoy listening to what he does. He has taste and feel; I'm hoping some of it rubs off on me!
Very nice. Close my eyes and I would swear it's Mark Knopfler ... and believe me I mean that as a VERY BIG complement. He one of my top 5 favorite guitarists. Cheers mate.
One of my favourite modern blues tracks. I ended up ordering the CD and there's some nice stuff on there. Am currently working in Germany, so will have to see if I can get over to Munster sometime and check out Greg's guitars....
The older Dumble Overdrive specials had 6L6 tubes.. the newer ones are usually EL34 though keep in mind Dumble tends to voice the amp for a particular guitarists so no two amps are completely alike.
Beautiful. Perfect tone for all the creativity you expressed through the song. It's good to know that someone still makes really good music. Keep it up.
This is the best sound I have heard from all the gear you have tested .. The LP and the Dumble give that lovely sligthly overdriven tone, which is not overpowering as is all the clones and pedals. Unbeatable...and you sold it !!!
Dumble took Fender amps and changed the Plate resistor values and cathode by caps in the preamp and used the reverb section for the overdrive channel. In some amps he changed the tone stack values and added a jazz/rock switch which modified the tone stack. SRV used Dumbles later in his career and sounded the same as his Vibroverbs. Robbin Ford sounds like Robbin Ford whether he plays a Dumble or a Twin Reverb. Check out The Ultimate Tone Vol 6 (Dumble Chapter) by Kevin O'Connor
Yup, the backing track (and the guitar played over it) is mimicing a couple of Dire Straits songs (most notably Brothers In Arms) and Hilden is using a bag of Mark's licks, but expands the style nicely and ads a brand of his own tasty guitar blend. Just my cup of tea :)
@rickmatousek the asymetrical clipping of the triodes on V2 (overdrive tube) The clean channel is cascaded into a second tube where the first stage compresses and the second overdrives. The result is the warm, woody, chirpy, dumble tone.
very tasty and great skills. Bin als Hollaender oft bei meine freundin in Nottuln. Irgendwie komme ich nie in Muenster aber das wirt sich bald aendern wenn du da spielst. Deine musik ist sooo relaxed!
with the right player and speakers they sound absolutly amazing. they give such a sweet pleasant tone. Greggor is using Alnico blue speakers which have a little more highend than i prefer but put some alnico golds in there you have the sweetest smoothest tone
why do these dumble amps sound so freaking amazing? I am a keyboard guy but all the guitar cats I see using dumble amps sound absolutely killer...what great tone....Robben Ford, Larry Carlton, Santana...now this guy...terrific. Saw Joe B using a dumble clone that sounded damn nice too.
In my opinion, a little lack of sound thickness, but because I love very warm sounds on LP neck PU. But this is very very cool to listen to! great playing!
Cool, I had the pleasure of hanging out with Howard Dumble in the early 80's up in Santa Cruz. He was just starting his company and offered to make me an amp for a grand. I just couldn't afford it at the time.. Darn.. wish I wouldn't sold my manager to get one..haha. Great playing dude. ADDIE
I wash dishes in a seedy motel restaurant venue cigarettes cheap whiskey and visual lies told by all the skirts that slither in looking for relief of a hungry belly or a place to sit upright for abit after spending all night laying on their backs trying to make rent with some left over to buy gas and lipstick but the boss he listens to this guy playing this music. Not to soft not to loud just..... you know. Like to mellow you out and let the dreams you once had play out in your head , good music. Like a good cup of coffee. To savor on before you plump down the cash and little tip you leave on the worn out counter and sounter back out into the cold vicious reality of life marked by the little bell that rings as you pull back on that door and thrust yourself back out into the world
I love this track and your playing is exquisite! It's been on my 'favourite' list for ages and I'm slowly weaning myself off it; I'm down to six times a day now! heh-heh! Sometimes I get a bit carried away and play along with you on my strat (sorry) and the Dumble setting on the old amp modeller (oops, done it again)! Strange how this always makes people bang on the walls....
Since I bought a Collector's Choice Les Paul and got the same pedals as Greg my sound has never been better....now there is no more excuse to sound great :)
Dumble sounds more like Fender, maybe because of the 6L6's. I had a 1960 Fender Super Amp (35 watt) that sounded a lot like this (turned up to about 7). I was thinking about building one of these but I think I'll build a 50 watt Marshall clone instead, maybe this one later. Nice sound, lots of different sounds from this amp if you check out the clips on UA-cam of Cieratone clones of this amp.
Not only is Greg an outstanding guitar player, he's also a very nice guy as a person. Those of us who have acually met him appreciate his humbleness. He doesn't make a lot of wind - he delivers and has an incredible knowledge about guitars and amps. Rock on, Greg!

You are one lucky guy! It doesn't get much better than this combo! Sweet!
It is an original title by Gregor Hilden from the new cd "Blue In Red". It's called "Blue Clouds"
Even german guitarists are able to produce warm embrace from deep heart. Thank you, Gregor.
it is an original tune from the new Gregor Hilden CD "Blue in Red" called "Blue Clouds"
All these years later this still gives me chills. Great playing.
absolutely .. all the hairs ... both arms ... wonderful control and yet freedom of expression ❤
Auch deutsche Gitarristen können ganz tiefe große Gefühle zeigen. Danke, Gregor.
Gregor you make me feel very well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks

I wonder who's disliking this beauty. Gorgeous playing

So captivating, this music has changed my life
Gregor Hilden has a real nice touch on his strings. Warm and melodic blues that is easy to love

your scratched gibson is amazing, wonderfull
And you music ... I have no words !
Cheers !!!
honest to god, I've seen a pro guitarist, as a joke, TEAR IT UP on a hello kitty guitar. It's the talent of the musician that makes a difference.
lovely Kit...lovely sound!
Very nice. Close my eyes and I would swear it's Mark Knopfler ... and believe me I mean that as a VERY BIG complement. He one of my top 5 favorite guitarists. Cheers mate.

Grande guitarrista, som agradável, show de música!!

Kind of like Snowy White from back in the Eighties - remember "Bird of Paradise"?
Nicely played, of course.

Tasty sound and brilliant playing !
SO GREAT !!!
those Dumble amps really have a nice, compressed woody tone! Helps when the player has a good left hand, as well. Keep Rockin'!
That is positively fantastic... great tone, beautifully played. Your playing needs to get some traction over here in the states... its awesome.

Love that Tone!!!
Great tone and nice chops, love the song.
