    This is great I was looking at first to see if there some type of backing material I could use to reenforce the rip seam to help support the rest of the skin along the pallet. This is a great video because buying fur second hand is because I rather get it that way instead of going retail (which I can't afford any way) and there can possibly be some damage not spotted till after purchase. I even have one that I really would love to restyle, but I can't afford the high prices of furriers to take care of these furs for me. I'm good with hand sewing. I am glad I found this video and hope you have others on taking care of these babies and keep them from ending up in landfills. Thanks for sharing and blessings to you and all in the days to come.

    Two questions what if the hole is not only irregular but also much larger and two where would you suggest to get a patch it a patch is what needed?

      @sewway  4 роки тому +5

      The small patch can be cut from back part of collar, inside part of pocket, from hem of the fur coat, etc.

    Poly thread, cotton, silk...what ya working with?

    • @sewway
      @sewway  4 роки тому +7

      Poly thread is better. Cotton thread or silk thread loses its strength over time and in places where there is tension (under the arm) the seam will be break.

    I have real fox fur, but I noticed that there is a tear of about 7 cm on the arm, I think it may be rotten, like a little uneven, can it be repaired?

    Does the kind of thread matter ?

    • @sewway
      @sewway  Рік тому +2

      It is advisable to use a thin, elastic and durable thread. The needle must also be thin. The smaller the hole from the puncture of the needle, the stronger the seam will be.

    That’s just a piece but how do u repair the rip if it’s in the fur coat

    • @sewway
      @sewway  2 роки тому +3

      It's hard to explain, but if rotten fur this method doesn't help.

    This doesn’t at all help for fur coats lol especially mink coats. This is a fix for small patches of fur and that only

      Agreed. This is a very poor repair shown here.

    This is so embarrassing. To be a master furrier and see someone butcher the mink with wrong knife. And sewing by hand that using a needle that puts large holes to weaken leather. A simple fix by a furrier. But no one has no clue each stripe took 3 hours to sew in its entire it. Takes 100 hours to sew a mink coat and all of a sudden the history, the experience knowledge thrown out the window with this misguided teaching.

    First of all she doesn’t even have the proper Fur knife.And she’s Sewing by hand.They do have fur machines.I stumbled upon this video.Not very impressed.And to the people that would say what do I know four generations of Furriers in our family.

      This video is for those who need to do repairs of fur products with their own hands without contacting specialists.
      I have a special fur knife and a sewing machine for sewing fur skins also. Thank for comment.
