- Technically speaking, this isn’t every single Super Mario underground theme. It’s actually every single instance of the Underground Theme leitmotif being used in a Mario song, but that’s not a great name for a video. Please read the pinned comment for more info!

The one song that has stayed with the franchise since the beginning (apart from the main theme, of course).
this song is used even more than the mario theme.
The Super Star theme as well
It did make it into the beta release of the U.S. Super Mario 2, but the final release used a remix of the original Doki Doki Panic underground theme instead.
Quite a few have stuck around, just not too consistently
In fact i'm pretty sure literally every track from the original Super Mario Bros. OST is still being used sometimes to this day.
i love shadow mario's themes. they all sound so sinister in a childish way and familiar at the same time. (the other shadow mario themes are the cosmic comet musics from SMG 1 and 2.)

Corrections:
- In a cutscene in Super Mario Sunshine, the first 6 notes are played. I forgot to include that cutscene here.
- In WarioWare Gold, 5-Volt can hum the Underground Theme in Sneaky Gamer. I couldn't find any footage with her humming the theme, so I didn't include it.
- In Super Mario Party, during Sound Stage an arrangement of this theme can be heard. I forgot to include this as well.
-A version of this theme was present in a beta version of Super Mario Bros. 2
Additionally, I used the Mario Wiki as my main source for this video. However, there were some mistakes on the wiki. The page for The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 misspells Michael Tavera's name as Michael Tavara.

There’s a gameplay video floating around with clear audio of the theme from wonder and it sounds amazing. My favorite here though is probably super paper Mario or superstar saga

@@kindlyevilbgm you should be able to find it if you look around. I think they changed it a little but it’s still recognizable
I believe the theme with the Underground leitmotif plays in several levels in World 5 in Wonder, including the Ghost House/Mansion.
There's also an Underground Theme in Wonder with a very loose reference to the regular Underground leitmotif.

I find it interesting how the time signature switches from 3/4 to 4/4 from SB3 onwards lol
There are a few exceptions. I spotted another 3/4, and I think that in paper mario 64 it might be 4/4+ 5/4
Super Paper mario is also not in 4

There's another version in Super Mario RPG called The Axem Rangers Burst In, and it's one of the best versions of the song in my opinion.

Mario Bros 3 was the first one where they said "yo we can do some good shit with this theme"
It seems only the original, the Tetris DS, the Good Egg Galaxy Remix from Smash 4, and Mario Maker versions deviate from the 4/4 time signature, with all of them except the smash one using 3/4 instead, and the aforementioned exception 3/4 + 5/4

been trying to find it for quite awhile but i just cant find it no matter how hard i look.
I'm pretty sure the small segment that plays during Sound Stage is all that exists in-game. If you want an extended version, I'd have to manually extend it myself. I'll still try uploading it though if you'd like.

Probably never tbh, or at least not for a while. I'd more likely make an update to this video,
I feel this theme gets reused more often than the actual main overworld theme-
bro blatantly skips over the part where the support instrument adds to the mario 64 version, as well as the "deep underground" part of the song (where the eerie voices kick in). He forgot the same type of section for the NSMBW versions (the normal and the yoshi version, and the volcano). he also forgot that the SM64DS version of the hazy maze cave uses a different "beat" instrument.
