I've crawled all over and under the full scale 4005 at the old Forney Transportation museum in Denver before they moved to their new digs. It's a one-of-a-kind in that it was modified to burn oil at one time. Didn't work out and it was converted back to coal.
Ha, just like working on the BIG ones--- always something!! WOW-- I love watching it, but can't do it.. no tools, don't know how- and can't afford to either...GOOD LUCK to you getting it smoothed up. Can't wait to see it run (I'm doing this now as you're milling the pieces..)
I hope you guys understand that it would be easier to mount the driver arms to the wheels and hook up the tender and fire it up and back it down there under it's own power.
Nice job on converting to 7 1/4” but i was horrified to see the angle grinder used with no protection to the surrounding parts cleanup must have been a pain, this is the same engine in Modeltec ? I presume the valve gear was disconnected to make it easier to push around the track
Martin Taylor if I was that old and had a passion for model trains, I wouldn't care if I was the only one pushing, ITS A BIG BOY MODEL TRAIN! AWESOME!!!
How many hours to build that engine? I do machining, casting and boiler work, but this engine looks like a lifetime project. When I was a kid, I got to see a real Big Boy running up close. About 1952 or 3. The ground moved.
What is the plan for the conrods etc? Bush them out each side to keep them in line with where they were for the wider gauge? Must have caused a pause for thought before cutting into the parts of such an expensive loco!
Totally amazing what you guys are doing with that model loco. Are you planning on coming to Europe to show it off? You would be very welcome in the UK.
Well, something bigger than the Big Boy is a Jawn Henry Class C+C+C+C. My sourse says it operated on N&W with a overall length (tender and loco) of 161 feet.
This one was built in the US and recently purchased by the bloke in the video,. it was on discover live steam for something like 250k? The one from Dobwalls is down in victoria and is a long way over scale size. happy steaming
Sales Winter - Tom's locomotive was built by Severn Lamb in England and shipped to the United States. I have pulled the throttle on that locomotive several times and thankfully have it on vhs tape. Visited Tom's place many times over the years and as a UNION PACIFIC engineer I hated to see it go. At least the big boy built by Floyd Epperson is still at the Riverside Live Steamers in California.
L TR no my daddy was tool and die man by trade .he worked two blocks from our house.when I was just about eight years old my big brother would set me up ow the Handel bars of his 26 Inch bicycle an we we'd cruise to the shop to watch Pop working on a lathe turning down a piece of tool steel in a shaft of some kind of shaft of some kind.or with some other machine.but anyway I definitely remember that smeel of steel and machine oil . haven't thought about this in years . but thank you for the memory of the smell and taste of metal in the air . we knew just about all the guys at the shop ..we'd HANG out for maybe an hour or so . had some cool times.do miss those days . were rich with great times and didn't even know it at the time . wouldn't trade my childhood for nothing

Whilst I certainly wish you well, don't you think that the point of a locomotive is to provide motive power, rather than being pushed around by three middle aged guys? Next month, Ynot build a B-36? It pushes easier. All in fun, JL.
Hello. I watched your videos. I think it is very interesting. You are a locomotive manufacturer, is that true? I really liked these locomotives. I'm from Russia, Moscow. I want to buy one of these locomotive. It's real? What is the cost? This is very important, thank you!
+doobear320 Thank you for the thoughtful suggestion. However after giving this 30 minutes of deep pondering & consideration, I must respectfully decline. But do keep this suggestions coming. You just may find one which will fit! Happy New Year!

+Alan S No need to hint. It doesn't matter! Great job, operate & own my own business, no women, great hobby, brewing beer when I have time, living on my own & own my own house. Besides, parents are elderly, but living elsewhere. I am happy! Seems your guess is completely wrong!

I have 3 of these locomotives in HO scale. What an amazing locomotive.
Fascinating to see the same passion and steam hobby all over the planet! :-)
Well, who does NOT love Big BOY in the train community anywhere in the world?
should have used one of the running engines to push it around.
I need that in my life, now I only need to convince my wife we need to sell our house for a steam locomotive and just live in our car.
Or a caboose attached!
@Adam Zaidi I'll help 😊
@@briansmith8967 Not a bad idea!
@@danhill9952 Do you mean you'll help in quickening my execution from my wife? Lol
Lmao😂😂😂. A very understanding wife is needed. 😂😂😂

That is magnificent! I only wish you had more video of her running under her own power
Thanks for the up date, way to go guys,Jon.
The real thing UP big boy 4014 is undergoing a complete overhaul at the UP steam yards now.
William Jackson cz
Yes he is and I went to see it. It was truly magnificent.
I saw her in college station. You cannot get a sense of scale of the thing until you are 6 feet from it.
@William Jackson It's complete and up and running. Since your post 2 yrs ago 😊😅😅😅😅
It looks as though things are coming along Jono. Great work on the engine to do the modifications needed.
I had no idea we had a Big Boy here in nz. Next time I'm travelling to Auckland, I'll have to try and coincidence it with an open day at your club.
That’s a cool model b Union Pacific big boy. Nice video.
Very very good job!! Génial! Stéph.
I hope you guys understand that it would be easier to mount the driver arms to the wheels and hook up the tender and fire it up and back it down there under it's own power.
im late to this but i absolutely appreciate her numbering it isnt 4014 but its 4005. this to me is amazing and love it

Curios as to how much this replica weighs ? Great work fellas
Will there ever be a part 3?
the REAL 4005 is on display in Forney Museum in Denver, Colorado!
You've got to cone to Wyoming to see 4014 when it comes back
Hi there. Hay that’s filmed in Tauranga Nz. When will you have that out again? I live near by and would love to see it

I know this is about the train but I actually think that the music was great!
I need to get into this hobby!
Sorry if I missed it but how much does the locomotive and tender weight???
IMPRESSIONANTE 👏👏👏
Why is no one helping old dude push that thing, what a great bunch of friends
Martin Taylor if I was that old and had a passion for model trains, I wouldn't care if I was the only one pushing, ITS A BIG BOY MODEL TRAIN! AWESOME!!!

Ocean Mariner I heard 4014 will move under own power in May 2019.
that is completely...EPIC!!!
It's weird to think of taking an angle grinder to a part of a model locomotive.
Did you get your Big boy running good down under. Just curious......
Excellent music choice!!
What is the plan for the conrods etc? Bush them out each side to keep them in line with where they were for the wider gauge?
Must have caused a pause for thought before cutting into the parts of such an expensive loco!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Totally amazing what you guys are doing with that model loco. Are you planning on coming to Europe to show it off? You would be very welcome in the UK.
I agree, the UK is a hotbed of garden live steam, altho this baby's track width is likely 5" or so.
I can't believe this is in Tauranga or is it in Whakatane I don't know but I live in Russell and I went past through Tauranga a few weeks ago
Tane Sig
ley
can i buy your 3d model ,i also want to build this locomotive. that is great, I very like it thank you .best wishes for you。
Bonjour,
Comment peut on avoir un contact avec le propriétaire de la machine ? je serai très intéresser par les plans de cette machines
Cordialement
COOL
4 years and you never updated this?
Is this the same locomotive that came from the USA?
Awesome Job .. Nice all
super lok klasse
And we never found out what happened to the locomotive
Is the the UP Big Boy that was originally ran at the Forest Railroad Park in Dobwalls UK ?
No, the Big Boy was only made in the United States.
its too small to be the one from Dobwalls i remember it being a lot bigger than that
Well, something bigger than the Big Boy is a Jawn Henry Class C+C+C+C. My sourse says it operated on N&W with a overall length (tender and loco) of 161 feet.

And to think I got tired pushing Marx cars around a Lionel track when I was 5.
Where does it go on to?
What gauge is this and where can I get one!?
Go The Allblacks.
Do the drives pivot in the middle of engine?
I'm going to subscribe I really want to see it run
I'm not jealous! You're jealous!
Imagine pushing the real Big Boy by hand
That would be impossible, unless if you had 10 Saxton Hales pushing it.
Kenneth Martinez I think the same thing! Lol! 😂😂😂😂😂
Ain't that a kick in the head?
Yeah lol
joe it would take god to do that XD
whats the steam temperature and pressure on it?
Well there goes his life savings
Even when I watch someone grind metal on video I taste metal in my mouth...is that weird?

no wonder that loco was derailing it was the 4005, HA, Train joke!!!
How heavy is this locomotive?
I would like to know the actual weight as well
Got to be a ton or over.....
Apollo355 its gotta be over 2 tons :/
+Shin Gojira 2017 Yeah, must be :/
I was wanting to know the same as well and I would estimate around one and a half to around two tons.
where can i get the 3d model 。i also want to build this 😅
Was it pushed on the tracks to test it?
Jfc, what scale is that ?
need to see it in steam

Are you guys in New Zealand?
do you have a video with running big boy?
What Railroad is that?
HOW MUCH does it weigh???
Who built the big boy

These are the builders: severn-lamb.com
Another source of kits: www.reindeerpass.com/live-steam-locomotives.aspx
LET'S GET FIRED UP!
as fine a model as that is, it deserves professional video production....
Well what happened?
And they said a Big Boy couldn't run in the UK.
DellaKitty But this is in NZ not the UK!!!!
A jaga kaha pa hs
I knew they were kiwis
I hate when people sit on these. It ruins the effect.
What's the 3rd rail for?
I'm guessing it's a dual gauge track; so they can run 7.25" and 5".
That would be my guess. Dual gage track to run different size trains on same track.
The location is new zealand tauranga
But, isn't Tauranga the zoo in Sydney?
Really its a giant
That a point less video I want to see so fun trains run guck this shit
How expensive is that?
Elwood P. Dowd easily over 150k
You know it's very expensive when you notice the Aston Martin in the background as they are loading it onto the trailer.
I gave it a thumbs down only because no follow up was made...
Wow! Wonderful!
Waste time showing driving and then do not show it coming off trailer?
They didn’t run it tho
Please sell this engine please
So
Must be nice to have the money for a "hobby"
Great video on the engine, music sucks.
This thing should be junked!

They don't have to be great film directors to show a true love for their passion and to share it with all of us.
And actually I think the video is pathetic
