Hello, I made a comment on your last video about my first game as a goalkeeper. Tonight I had my first league game... Due to current events we weren't able to practice for the past two weeks while the team we were up against could (were in a different state). The game was an 8-0 loss. My team shot 7 times and I was shot at 40 times (.800 save percentage!). For me this game was a huge success even though it was a loss. Watching your videos has been a huge help in improving my skills.
I'm glad you are back for Season 2. Warm ups are so important especially when you are playing in pick up games. Getting thrown to the wolves is an accurate assessment of what can happen in these types of games. I still loved it and would play again, if I could. Looking forward to your great insight into the game.
That was my go to back in the day, but Mitch Korn also made me learn to shoot wrong handed, hence the straight stick I used in the NHL to be able to shoot forehand equally well both ways...
Love the section about nerves. For me I get butterflies up to 3 times a season. First game, first playoff game, and championship game if I make it. For me the butterflies always go away after I face that first real shot of the game, because that’s when I know how well I’m tracking the puck that day.
Been playing for a long time and still love watching videos to help improve my game. Now in my 40's and my game has been steadily improving for position and decisions. Now if only i had been disciplined as a younger man id be so much further ahead. Great video, thanks for posting. And i loved my old V5s but now have my 2S pro's and cant imagine anything other than my bauers
Love to hear guys still playing their whole adult lives. This the real reason we should all be strapping on the pads. I fell back in love with hockey playing forward after I stopped playing in the NHL for a living.
Love Alaska. Have done clinics for many years there in Fairbanks and Anchorage... love the coffee shacks. Stephon Williams is one of goalies who played pro from AK
Great to see another season of videos! I have always identified with my nerves. They allowed me to know what was to come, and to start envisioning saves, etc.
I love this video and the movement drill (which I will use to warm up once we are allowed back on the ice). Must be the best feeling to get on the ice with your son. Biggest thrill would be for my daughter to follow in my footsteps and play goalie. Love that they're both full right goalies and their masks are the reverse of each other (if I saw correctly). Great advice too. I always do a 20 minute warmup/stretch at home before driving to the arena and then a 5 minute warmup/stretch on the ice at the arena before getting beaned with shots. Welcome back Steve

Great video Steve. Paul and Stanley were a great source. I've had the pleasure to play with and against Paul. He is a fantastic guy and goalie. He is telling the truth about being a gear geek. Lol Great job Paul and Stanley! Excellent points.
Like Russel Wilson says, " the separation is in the preparation". I have found no better words for almost every aspect of life. I don't play goal but I make it a point to be warmed up, stretched out and focused on before half the team is there. And I think my team sees that as a keystone of their mindset.
Great video with two great points. First, nerves. This was my nemesis in the early days. I did not start playing ice hockey until i was 24. After a few years of pickup I joined a work team in a beer league. Was always nervous before the game being new to it and especially skating out looking up at the restaurant windows that over look the pad and see everyone watching made it worse. But as soon as the game started, I typically settled down once I got too busy to think about anything else. Good point on getting up to temperature as well. Very little time and most guys don't warm up goalies well. They come in and either blast one to the top corner or deke you out of your underwear. I play 3 on 3 pickup now which is great. I get to the rink early, get dressed to warm the equipment up, stretch and try to get moving as soon as we hit the ice. There's usually not much time to take warm up shots but in 3 on 3, getting up to the temperature is not a problem :).
Woo!! This 2nd season of FPG TV is far above the Mandalorian 2nd season FOR SURE! I’m Lovin’ it!!!!! 🤣😆😂 & Yes, always do a pre stretch before getting the rink & I even prefer to get one of the better players on the team to get a few pucks on me.. Instead of the firing squad style before the game!
100% agree with nerves. I play my best when I'm nervous as hell. My two shutouts came against the best team's in that league and I didn't even notice until the final buzzer sounded... Focus on the next puck, the next play... I would know that white helmet has good hands but can't elevate the puck but number 3 could snipe (from previous games and stick n puck) so when game time came I was only focused on what i could do to stop them while keeping my motions basic and not doing extra movements to allow a garbage goal... when you're nervous you don't really have time to focus on anything that doesn't matter
Great video! I just started playing goal 3 years ago and seeing older goalies like myself also say they started late really gives me hope that I can improve over time with proper training and preparation.

I replied, That's because you don't have it on Vaughn gear! The next year, he added them. (Around 1989-90?)
