She cared for everyone, and she was determined to fight to the very end. As Thanos says, "I know what it's like to lose. To feel so desperately that you're right, yet to fail nonetheless."
Undyne’s neutral death is sad because you’re just a going around ruining and ending peoples lives, including hers. 15:53 There is only one major issue I have with Undertale, that the moral this conversation tells the player is not revealed in all the game’s routes. I’ve seen reviews where people hate this game because they think the message is “killing is always bad, even if you’re about to be murdered.” The actual message of the game is that “with great power comes great responsibility.” You have the greatest power of all, time control. Any time something horrible happens, you can rewind the clock and fix it. If a murderer tries to kill you, you don’t have to kill them. It isn’t a matter of life and death, since it is impossible for you to die. As a result, you have the full ability to redeem the murderer, to dig into his issues, and rescue him. 1:55 I feel like this is as good of an opportunity as any to talk about a detail in this game that I often find is overlooked and not talked about nearly as much as it should be: the reveal that Asgore and the Monster King are one and the same. I know that this sounds stupid if you've played Undertale. Asgore is one of the most recognizable characters, after all. But I'd ask you to take a step back for a moment and act like you've never played, no, never even HEARD of Undertale. You have no idea who any of the characters are, and you are going in COMPLETELY blind. Even before you play the game, right on the Kickstarter page for the game, the end of the original trailer shows the following words: "Do not let ASGORE take your soul." Then it shows an ominous looking silhouette of a figure with horns carrying a pitchfork, who the viewer (correctly) assumes is Asgore. This serves as some really on-the-nose symbolism of the Devil, who is often portrayed with horns and a pitchfork. This, combined with the warning beforehand gets across one idea: this Asgore, whoever he is, is evil, and very much does not like you and wants you dead. This sets him up as the main antagonist of the game before it even starts. His name also makes him sound like an antagonist - it literally has the word "gore" right there in it. When you finally get into the game, Toriel reinforces this idea, telling you that Asgore will kill you if you leave her protection in the Ruins, and, as we see in this video, if you kill her normally in a neutral route she gives you one last desperate warning and tells you that Asgore's plan "cannot be allowed to succeed." So now you're wondering what his deal is. He clearly has it out for you and very much wants you dead, and you're intrigued to find out why. This image of him as an antagonist is helped by the fact that his name is always in red in dialogue boxes. A bit later in the game, you finally hear some mentions of the King of Monsters. Papyrus is the first one who mentions him, and every description of him makes him sound like one of the nicest guys ever. Papyrus calls him a "big fuzzy pushover", and you learn that he is often called "Mr. Dreemur" by many of the monsters in the underground, and doesn't seem to mind. You'd expect a King to want to be called "Your Highness" or some other regal title like that - but this guy doesn't even mind being called "Mister" just like everyone else. His name also gives off the idea that he's a nice guy - it's literally a misspelling of "dreamer". Then, the Monster Kid talks about the time the King came to his class and says that he helped them pick flowers and that they had to call him "Mr. Dreemur". The king is clearly not only incredibly popular, but also very genuine and kind to all of his subjects. Hell, he's so nice that Papyrus says that you can probably just walk up to him and ask to go home - and he'll let you, because he's just that friendly. And, to reinforce this, his name is always shown in yellow. So now you've got these two separate pictures of two completely different characters: one being Asgore, a ruthless murderer who has some kind of evil master plan and will not stop until he kills you and takes your soul, and the other being King Dreemur, the kind, benevolent King of the Underground who is very friendly and down to earth with his subjects (who, in return, absolutely adore him). Then, finally, the reveal happens. While chasing you through Waterfall, Undyne refers to the King, then goes on to finally use his full name, with both red and yellow lettering: "King Asgore Dreemur." All of a sudden, both of those images you had created COMPLETELY shatter. Asgore, who was once this completely ruthless murderer, has been revealed to be someone who is actually quite friendly with everyone (except you, apparently). And King Dreemur, the "Big Fuzzy Pushover", is now also someone who very badly wants you dead. Eventually, you end up actually meeting him, and you discover that his character is even more layered and intriguing than what I've discussed here. These early moments, however, stuck with me a lot, and this was one of the first indications (to me personally) that this game was NOT going to have such a "black and white" depiction of good and evil. There would be a lot more nuance involved than that. I really wish this buildup and eventual reveal was given a lot more attention, because it is, in my opinion, expertly crafted.
I mean.. the shadow of sans in the hallway was probably supposed to be the depiction of Asgore, who will kill you no matter what. Maybe the game was trying to tell that sans was Asgore, but he wasn't. It just turned out to be some desperate king trying to save his kind.
Xenomorpher529 this is technically a neutral route, so yes, she melts to death, having to much DT in her system, but not enough to become an amalgamate
What makes Undyne's death even sadder: You know the song at the end? The same song plays on the pacifist route when everyone is protecting you from flowey before he turns into asriel. The song is called *don't give up.* You are now in floweys place while undyne refuses to give up to save everyone else.
Rampant Mutt part of why I love this game. Man, I wanted to kill Undyne when I first fought her then part way through, I realized I didn’t want to kill her. Then I ran until she stopped fighting. When the judgement part with sans happened, I really didn’t like myself. I killed so many creatures not realizing what I was doing.
Yep, that's the point of undertale. It hurts knowing there's so much more to be explored by killing certain monsters, but I feel too bad killing some of them.
That's pretty depressing... But it should be. Because that's the point of UnderTale. That's why they're called "monsters." They might be enemies with strange abilities who are trying to kill you... But they have feelings too. And that's the true beauty of this game, in it's entirety. The fact that you have the choice to peer into these monsters' lives and find that they're actually pretty spectacular people.
For those confused about Flowey's deaths between this and the genocide routes: Flowey's philosophy is "either kill or be killed". In both the pacifist and neutral routes, he actively tries to encourage Frisk to kill every monster in the underground, since you leave monsters to live in both those routes. By killing Flowey, you're basically telling him you finally accept his mindset as true. In the genocide route, you basically tell him you already agree with him after killing Toriel. He has nothing to prove to you. He has nothing to teach you. He has no purpose with you there. He has no value. His life has no value. He's only in the way. Just like everyone else.
@@Mat5881 A No Mercy Run is when you kill every monster you see when playing through normally, and a Genocide Run is basically the equivalent of grinding exp. in other games. It’s when you kill every monster in every section of the underground ‘till you see “but nobody came” when you enter I fight.
@@meattree Ahaaaaah! Thank you very much for clearing this one up ^^ So in a nutshell it's going through the game, not being nice to or sparing anybody trying to block you and yet it still follow the "if you don't provoke me I don't provoke you" logic?

Hey ur the guy from the mc video "Going back to the basics" U answered the guy who said that steve in french says oui "So he says yes?😳😳😳" damn my memory is awesome
one thing that's underused in media is silence. undertale uses it perfectly. the beautiful soundtrack plays over most of the pacifist route, but heartbreaking moments like these often end in complete silence, leaving you with what you did hanging over you. the genocide route barely has any songs - the underground is silent because you killed all the people.
When he shatters the MERCY button with his trident, he does it because he simply thinks that he is not worthy of the player's MERCY. Contextually this makes sense because he killed 6 humans, took their SOULS; but he is sympathetic and the repercussions have got to him mentally. He grieves for his children, Asriel and Chara, who died before the human executions begun. Because the humans killed Asriel, piercing arrows through him, Asgore has his last straw and wages another vow to kill the humans that fall under.
Undyne's death is so heartbreaking. It gives you so many chances to redeem yourself, to stop yourself from hurting her, but if you keep on doing it, it sort of in the dialogue chat even loses faith in yourself. Sort of saying "haven't you had enough?"
- Verdelit - she is a literal genocidal demon that wants nothing more than controlling the players actions so she can murder everyone over and over again....
That makes so much sense, in a normal pacifist/neutral run, Alphys says she didn't watch you fight Undyne. That would be why she doesn't hate you for killing her.
Toby fox knew how infinity war would make people disappear so he made the monsters not feel so good and become dust before the film producers release the movie
You forgot one with Toriel. Keep sparing her until the dialog where she says "Patethic, right? I cannot save even a single child." *Then fight her.* She'll say: "You... at my weakest moment..." I don't renember what she says after, but at the end of her dialog she says: " *H a . . . H a . . .* " Then she turns into dust and her soul dies.
Also, it's quite sad on the first run, when you don't have a clue about pacifist route. She won't kill you, all attacks are actively avoiding you when you are low on hp. She's not killing you, but you end up killing her anyway, just because you don't know yet.
I don’t why, but this route makes me have the feels at their deaths 10 times stronger than even the true genocide route .,. Maybe it’s because they had actual hope- and you’re not a demon like you are portrayed as in the genocide route. You’re a human, I guess it just shows how much impact one actual human can make .,.
Things that make me feel guilty during the genocide run Torial "you really hate me that much?" Nabstablook "I was lowering my hp not to be rude" Papyrus "I can still see a good person in you" Killing froggit Sans "papyrus do you want anything?" I am grateful that I did not have to fight temmie tho

Dang. That.. dang
I mean.. the shadow of sans in the hallway was probably supposed to be the depiction of Asgore, who will kill you no matter what. Maybe the game was trying to tell that sans was Asgore, but he wasn't. It just turned out to be some desperate king trying to save his kind.

What makes Undyne's death even sadder:
You know the song at the end? The same song plays on the pacifist route when everyone is protecting you from flowey before he turns into asriel.
The song is called *don't give up.*
You are now in floweys place while undyne refuses to give up to save everyone else.
i'm pretty sure it's "an ending," but they have very similar melodies
An Ending, don't give up, A Respite have the same leitmotif

This would be a normal run for any other video game.
That's why they're called "monsters."
They might be enemies with strange abilities who are trying to kill you...
But they have feelings too.
And that's the true beauty of this game, in it's entirety.
The fact that you have the choice to peer into these monsters' lives and find that they're actually pretty spectacular people.
Yep, that’s why Undertale is so different

For those confused about Flowey's deaths between this and the genocide routes: Flowey's philosophy is "either kill or be killed". In both the pacifist and neutral routes, he actively tries to encourage Frisk to kill every monster in the underground, since you leave monsters to live in both those routes. By killing Flowey, you're basically telling him you finally accept his mindset as true. In the genocide route, you basically tell him you already agree with him after killing Toriel. He has nothing to prove to you. He has nothing to teach you. He has no purpose with you there. He has no value. His life has no value. He's only in the way. Just like everyone else.
p l e a s e d o n ' t k i l l m e . . . . .
