- The Battle of Tigranocerta in 67 BC was a crucial conflict between the Roman Republic and the Kingdom of Armenia, led by King Tigranes the Great. Under the command of Consul Lucius Licinius Lucullus, the heavily outnumbered Roman forces engaged the Armenians amidst the backdrop of the Third Mithridatic War.

Tigranes the Great is among the most dangerous enemy of Rome he intro conflict with the Romans there were many battles but no real winner came out when he was very old he surrendered to Pompeuis who show him great admiration and respect and let him regin over Armenia for the rest of is life

Great flanking manouver by the Romans there. They took great advantage of the bigness of the enemy´s formation and kept the initial as the vastly outnumbered force. And yet it still comes down to a few hundred men in the front lines leading the charge. These men were something else.
Lucillus and his brave men floating like a butterfly, stinging like a bee slicing through hordes of men in comparison to his humble force. Embodiment of the principles of Virtus and Prudence!

Pontus imo is arguably the best Rival Roma ever had- Definitely competes for the top 3 position, Between Carthage, Gauls & Parthian/Persians.

Tigranes the Great even when he was old he kick the Roman out of Armenia Lucullus was defeated by him in Battle of Aratsani river Rome simply refused to fight Tigranes the Great and Mithridates the Great the posing king at the same time

Again, another excellent storytelling. I always liked how Oscar introduced historical figures in a concise way, but you raised the bar of yourself by showing us more of the man's character here. One thing I would love see correted, the color choice, pastelish, of political entities blended into the seas and water bodies. I recommend you fade out the borders and complicated political colors after introduction. So we only see terrains, oceans distinctive. Maybe also try enhanced shading lines between landmass and big waters? Make mountain and city stand out more? 2cents.
Yes I was having difficulties in distinguishing the water body from the landmass. However the presentation was beautiful as always.

No, it was the "real" Julius Caesar! "Caesar then left Italy to serve in the staff of the governor of Asia, Marcus Minucius Thermus. (...) His studies were interrupted by the outbreak of the Third Mithridatic War over the winter of 75 and 74 BC; Caesar is alleged to have gone around collecting troops in the province at the locals' expense and leading them successfully against Mithridates' forces."

Those times a good general could maded the difference, thos times not all army's maded use of scouts. If the armenians would have used scouts the outcomme could have been different ! Hannibal was a master in tactics and one of the greatest generals in those times. THANKS for making this vid !!!!

There are a lot like Ticonderoga, Major General Edward Braddock's massacre, the siege of fort William Henry, Major General James Wolfe win in Quebec but both Wolfe and Montcalm died in the field and much much more..?

You could have done a little research about Armenia's borders.
Mithradates is my favourite historical king, what a gigachad and interesting leader
He was one if romes biggest rivals, on the level of Carthage when it comes to how iconic but he was leauges more powerful than the Carthaginians.
There is just less surviving records on the individual battles of this war, its so sad when mitradates is so awesome.
Im currently putting together the equipment of a pontic infantryman for possible re-enactnent (tbh it is similar to other greek troops with some minor changes) ive got my linothorax and will have a sarissa head soon, will need the shaft and other kit but ill soon be ready to face those poncy "legions" i mean what is a "maniple" against alexander's phalanx? 😂

I would disagree about the strength of Pontus compared to Carthage. Pontus yes didn't threaten Italy but it was much further away and the Roman empire was much larger. Both Pontus and Carthage were legitimate threats in their day, both a little bit smaller than the Roman empire they contested.
It's much easier to threaten Italy when Sicily is literally on your doorstep and you control parts of Spain.

The Romans performed a wide flanking maneuver right in front of him and he did nothing? Tigranes was complete trash as a commander.
I assume his soldiers were trash feudal levies. While Roman legions could quickly march, seize heights, etc., Armenian infantry may have been only able to stand, fight, and try to push forward. In hindsight he may have kept a contingent on the heights since he had a massive numbers advantage. But in hindsight...
@@shamsishraq6831 Exactly. In hindsight…….You had a superior force on your own territory and were outflanked in broad daylight by an inferior force, right in front of you. A smart commander would have baited the Romans and placed the majority of his armies in a hidden position and pounce once the Romans took the bait. I would have put a small force in front of the Romans and than patiently waited with the bulk of my army in a concealed position.
Impossible to feed 600,000 horse or camels. This is an outrageous number as it would starve the empire to feed so many.
Ancient historians liked to exaggerate military battles and army sizes. Even ancient China with its vast wealth and size can only field one hundred thousand.
