Dimash performed this for Congress of Religious Leaders including the Pope.
This, this is why we love him so much. Not just because of his vocals but because of the way he uses his platform to spread a message of peace around the world.
He loves humanity in all its vibrant colours, shapes and forms. If you could only see moments from the Almaty concert, he stands on that huge stage and looks over the crowd often with the gentle smile of a loving father watching his children, there was something so innocent and yet so godlike in his whole presence that night.
The third part of that concert (which is on his channel) is where you will find the best live performance.
And yes, he can act his ass off! We've longed for him to do a movie but he's of the opinion that artists should stay in their own lane unfortunately. Although if his friend Jackie Chan were to ask, he probably wouldn't say no.
Btw, he's such a great actor that you probably didn't realise that he appears in the video right from the first appearance of the soldiers, he's the one creeping along under the shelter, emerging to shoot the enemy soldier and the one following the soldier into the building and ending up getting shot in the arm.

I experienced that song live. OmG!! I cried my eyes off, because the beauty of the song and the depth of the lyrics got too overwhelming. This is, according to my opinion, the best and most versatile in both composition and vocals that a human being ever generated. Dimash is a genius!!! I will never stop to admire his abilities. What an artist! Whenever I will have the time and financial means I will visit his concerts - even if the concert took place on the north pole. Experiencing Dimash live is indescribable. I got addicted.

I discovered Dimash in 2018 & when he said that everything else that we’ve heard from him before is nothing. It took him 3 years to compose this song & it is a masterpiece.

👉 That is the grandiose and impressive result of three years of compositional work by Dimash Qudaibergen.
This clip is not about war, it’s about peace. War here is a means of expressing the contrast of what happens when we lose love for one another. It is about the call to unite, to stop dividing each other along national, social, religious lines in order to preserve life, love, friendship, and the land for our children.
Story: The clip is divided into several parts. The first is about childhood. The main character and his 2 friends are linked in eternal friendship through childhood stories and a symbol (necklace).
One day, the friend saves the protagonist when he is drowning. However, there is already competition in this children's story as the boys are in love with the girl and she chooses 'Dimash'.
The pendant is a gnomon, the shadow hand of a sundial, which also served as a sea compass before antiquity. Uniform wearers wear this symbol on their heads. So it can't work.
The second experiences a kind of nervous breakdown and transfers the children's problems into the world of adult totalitarianism and struggle.
By becoming President, the antagonist (Piper - in reference to the 'Pied Piper of Hamelin') carries within himself the idea of a war to save:
“Only war will lead us to peace. Only the strongest can find love in their hearts. You must be strong enough to give freedom to the world. A world where every city, every home is one. We will guide all who are ready to start this new life. Anyone who resists has no business with us. I choose freedom. The world is open to me and I want to give it to you. War for the people is the way to unity.”
The main character also speaks of unity, of peace, but through the lens of kindness and love.
While fighting, he is confused, he is in shock, but he has to save his family - his pregnant wife (the very girl from his childhood) and his daughter. Once home, he is horrified by the picture of the dead and realizes that his family is also dead. After surviving this drama, he moves on to the antagonist to seek revenge.
However, the Protagonist’s wife survives with the help of people who know that she is the one who must give birth to a special boy who can save the world. These are people of different nationalities and faiths who have united for peace.
A parallel line of pilgrims are people of different religions, walking the hard path to some place of power where they could unite and discover the Heavenly Eye that would illuminate the world. By uniting, they create a common energy in which the protagonist’s son is born, as Hope and Faith for the Better. Their journey is a symbol of faith in general, because it always goes through trials. When we go to the truth, we go through certain lessons and our way to God is difficult, but only possible if we come together.
The words at the end of the video are from the "Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together" signed by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmad el-Tayeb, on February 4, 2019. Dimash met and spoke with both men at the September meeting.

My opinion: The whole song is an outcry. Dimash's unmistakable emotionally charged voice draws you into the video. I was totally hypnotized. My heart aches because of the wars and misery in this world. The greed, envy and intolerance of men will wipe them off the face of the earth if they do not come to their senses. Children and women are targeted victims of annihilation and rape in wars. But they are not just victims or mothers. They are half of humanity. Where are they? Why don't the women climb the mountain side by side with the men and head towards the sunrise and a better future? I only see men running mercilessly past a collapsed comrade-in-arms. Nobody helps him. What future can such a humanity await? Will anything ever change?

Хочу обратить ваше внимание на локации видео. Дети и море снималось в Калинграде ( историческом Кенисберге), родине величайшего философа Канта. Помните его высказывание о том, что не устает наблюдать две вещи - звездное небо над нами и нравственный закон внутри нас. Вторая локация - каньон Чарын недалеко от Алматы (южной столицы Казахстана), имеющей тысячелетнюю историю и расположенную на Великом Шелковом пути. Это тот путь, через который шел обмен идеями, культурными достижениями, религиозными и духовными идеями. Ничего просто так у Димаша не бывает. Его произведения всегда наполнены символизмом, который отражается не только знаково, но и географически. Именно поэтому его нужно слушать и смотреть многократно, вдумчиво и внимательно. Хотелось бы отметить еще одно обстоятельство. В спотифай и на других площадках у Димаша гораздо меньше прослушиваний, чем у других исполнителей. На мой взгляд, это потому, что всегда нужно смотреть на самого Димаша, а не только слушать.

#thankyoudimash I've been waiting for you to get to this video. I knew it would touch you in so many ways, like it has me. The part where Dimash holds his murdered daughter still breaks me up. (I have two daughters myself and can only imagine how I would react under such circumstances, but I believe Dimash absolutely nailed it.) These are my views on this amazing masterpiece Story of One Sky - I have watched this many times and still find things out that i never thought of amazing video and i have said it before if anyone could bring peace i strongly believe Dimash could make it possible. This needs to be shared worldwide to show people there is another way. War is never the answer because the only ones to suffer are the innocent. Rewatched the song of Dimash today one line stood out to me One of the most profound lines in The Story of One Sky is the line "Learn to share the love, Not shares" Not shares meaning stop making money out of war rich people have many shares in companies that profit from weapon manufacturing making them richer while the innocent suffer sadly this is why war exists. MONEY, GREED and POWER. The boy who was drowning was (Dimash's character as a child) made the necklaces that were given to the girl who grew up to be (Dimash's pregnant wife) and the boy who saved him who (grew up to be the military leader), possibly out of jealousy. The military leader waged his war The part in the video with the little girl and the people in the hallway were Dimash's family who had been wiped out the little girl whose body he picked up was his daughter, the baby that was born was his son who grew up to be Dimash grown up at the end!!! The Dimash at the end can also be seen as Dimash in the afterlife leading others to the light in peace. Something else i noticed is in his dying breath he sang (We're Choosing Life) as he finally passed away now that is powerful

To say the truth I love all this artistic piece, it is bold and straightforward, but also full of symbols that not everybody can grasp. My admiration for this young man never ceases to grow. He composed the song, wrote the script for the video, acted in it, and of course did all the vocals.

This song is a "modern" multicultural interfaith Requiem (the traditional Requiem is a song for the Mass of the Dead in the Catholic Church. The best known requiem is by Mozart I think). The Requiem usually has 2 parts: one mourning death and the other celebrating life.
Dimash says in a low voice: Адам керуен, өмір жол. Man is a caravan, life is a road. (Kazakh proverb)
So for me, the caravan is his (and our) inner world. Religiosity is in us, the religious man dies when a part of the soldier (Dimash) dies when he finds his daughter dead. So when he seeks revenge, there's a storm. Death follows death: Piper dies but the soldier (Dimash) dies too. Death is not the answer. And so violence is not the way (You can murder the "bad guy" but if everybody thinks that violence is an answer, another "bad guy" will appear for sure.) And then we see that his son made a better decision... His son joins others in seeking peace. That is the final answer.

Dimash truly is an ambassador for peace. Dimash presented this video at the seventh Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions (an interfaith conference with top leaders of major religions around the world; it was held September last year). Pope Francis gave Dimash a commemorative medal the same week.
Dimash also gave a speech promoting peace at the Central Asian Media Forum held in Astana last December; he and Jeremy Gilley presented "The Ethics of Peace" report. Jeremy is the founder of the global Peace One Day project . More than 100 invited experts in world politics, international journalism and other media leader attended this forum (as reported by Astana Times).

The title itself - “Story of One Sky” - is thought-provoking. Before Islam became the predominant religion in Kazakhstan, the nomadic people of the steppes followed Tengriism with Father Sky and Mother Earth as deities. Like many old pantheistic religions, its core tenet was the “unity of all things” since everything in the natural world is animated by and connected through spirit. This concept of spiritual unity lives on in Kazakh traditions, music and poetry.
It is subtitled "Requiem” to commemorate and mourn all those who have died in war and in the struggle for peace, but it is also a vision for the future and a call to action to save ourselves and our world. Raised in an observant Muslim household, classically trained in music, educated in world and Kazakh history, and immersed in literature and folklore, Dimash has a deep understanding of sacred music and the mystic teachings and symbolism of the major world religions as well as ancient traditions, so it is not by coincidence that the first performance of this work took place on September 14, 2022, at the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Kazakhstan. The written statement at the end of the video is directly from the “Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together” signed jointly on February 4, 2019, by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmad el-Tayeb. Dimash met and spoke with both men at the September meeting.
Everything Dimash does is intentional, and this piece has layers that would take a dissertation to unravel. I only touch on some of what struck me in the symbolism. The music is a dissertation all by itself.
The pendant is an interesting element. It is a gnomon from a maritime compass sundial. This triangular blade is attached to the sundial, casting a shadow on the sundial while the perforated pinhole projects the image of the sun onto the dial. It was used for both timekeeping and navigation, with the gnomon oriented to True North. (Thank you, Snarky Tart for that information). In the MV, the child who later becomes the military commander never puts on the necklace. After Dimash, the boy, gives his friend the pendant, the camera focuses on his hand and shows that his friend has bent the gnomon in anger over being rejected by the girl. Thus bent, it can never be oriented to True North, and he has lost his moral compass. Later, we see a version of the gnomon as the military insignia on the uniforms of the commander and his soldiers, but it is distorted and without the hole that allows light to shine through rendering it useless as a compass. When we lose the original intent of a symbol by twisting it into something it is not or by just paying lip service, it no longer has any spiritual meaning. At best it becomes a useless prop, at worst it is used to mislead and manipulate people.
Dimash interweaves the past and the present, the ancient and the modern, throughout this work. Alluding to more contemporary music, with the phrase "We have passed the moment of Imagine," Dimash reminds us that we are past the sentiments evoked by the song "Imagine" by John Lennon. It is time to stop dreaming about a world of peace and harmony to be achieved by erasing our differences and giving up our identities. The world is complex, cultural roots run deep, and people experience life quite differently across the globe. If we choose life, if we wish for peace, if we want a world without war for our children and grandchildren, we must find common ground while respecting our differences and take up the long hard path up the mountain towards the light. It is the only way.
The storyline is a very human one: we start as innocents until our hearts are broken, we fail, or our dreams are not realized. If in our pain and disappointment, we turn to anger and blame instead of acceptance, power instead of love, greed and envy instead of generosity, hatred instead of forgiveness, and revenge instead of justice, we sow the seeds for conflicts that can turn into war. We see that happening every day around us.
The Piper's call is seductive as it promises redress for our grievances, control over our circumstances, and power over those who thwarted us, and this appeals to our wounded ego. However, let's remember that the Piper is a symbolic figure of Death from the Middle Ages, often used as a metaphor for trusting and following charismatic but dangerous and malevolent leaders to certain death. Many of us remember the story of the Pied Piper of Hameln from our childhood. Even if we resist, as the adult Dimash character does, we often employ the same methods and weaponry as the Piper, and thus those who fight back betray peace as well because peace cannot be won through violence. That is the dilemma of those of us who did not start war, who do not support war, but are forced to respond in order to defend ourselves and those we love. How can we rid the world of evil without becoming what we fight against?
The burning sign "Waldenberg" is a reference to the end of WWII when the US Army destroyed the last of the resistance by the German Wehrmacht close to the end of the war in April 1945 in the part of Germany where I grew up. I have seen the aftermath of war as I was born a few years later when much of Germany was still in rubble. Waldenburg is only 28 miles from my hometown and was completely destroyed. There are no winners in war. Dimash is right: war is death.
The last movement is powerful: The cries over the loss of a beloved child and the cries of giving birth to new life are presented as a call-and-response grounded by a powerful Om chant and punctuated by the sound of Tibetan bells that create a sacred space, reminding us that death and birth are both sacraments and are interwoven in the tapestry of life. The birth underground is reminiscent of the sacred cave Akmeshit (White Mosque) found in Southern Kazakhstan, an ancient place of power said to heal diseases and cure infertility. Dimash's vocalization and the pilgrims representing world religions and religious leaders, past and present, walking up the sacred mountain together shift the narrative toward the final conflict and finally redemption. With the mountain scenes, Dimash alludes to another sacred place in Kazakhstan on the Kazakh/Russian border, Ice Mountain, which is referred to by the local Altai residents as “The dwelling of the Gods” and by Buddhists as the location of the Shambhala, the legendary country of Gods.
When Dimash’s character decides to avenge the murder of his daughter, his state of consciousness is reflected in the darkening of the sky with lightning bolts of anger accompanying the storms of his emotions that buffet the pilgrims. The fog of war obscures the light. When he is killed after exacting retribution, he is dropped back into the "sacred womb" of Earth, the ocean of love and mercy, and is cleansed of the old hatreds and grievances that only bring more death and suffering. He breaks the wheel of endless war and suffering by choosing life. Dimash's scream of “we’re choosing life” is also that of giving birth: the old earthly consciousness of an eye for an eye has to die to make way for a new spiritual consciousness that embraces all life. Soul is breaking free to return to its natural state of love and purity as exemplified by the images of the children and the newborn baby.
The blowing of the shofar signals God's mercy for humankind when it turns from wrong to right: in the Zohar, the book of Jewish mysticism, it says: “When human beings repent of their sins, they blow the shofar on earth. Its sound ascends On High and awakens the heavenly shofar, and so mercy is aroused and judgment is removed.”
There is a very moving scene where pilgrims bury a man who perished on the journey. Men of different faiths come together to honor his life and his passing. This reverent expression of love and unity stands in stark contrast to the commander’s harsh pronouncement that it is war that unites people.
Reborn as a leader for peace and love, Dimash's character in the form of his son becomes a spiritual guide for all of mankind on our shared journey up the mountain towards the light of God, however we may interpret or name the divine. We are all on the same path, even if our personal narratives, cultural heritage, race, and spiritual orientations are very different from one another. By focusing on our common destination rather than on our differences, we can walk together in peace and love and mutual respect.
Carl Jung wrote: “Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely. Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”
This is what Dimash has done with this work; he has made the darkness conscious. We can only raise our individual and collective consciousness by bringing to light what needs to be healed in our lives and our world, and then we need to work together to restore wholeness to what is broken and bring about peace and unity, one step at a time. As the hymn goes: "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me."
Dimash is a very spiritual person, so using the symbols and sounds of the major world religions is fitting for this work. For those who do not subscribe to any faith tradition, I want to mention Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s latest book “Starry Messenger” where this agnostic scientist calls for the need to develop a cosmic perspective along with the rationality of science to solve the intractable human conflicts that so often lead to war. It is on that HIGHER ground - be it in religion, humanism, or science - that we can find COMMON ground.

Symbols: The piece that is hanging from the wire is a gnomon. It is a piece used in sundials and the sun passes through the circle producing a shadow that indicates the right path.
Note that the friend did not put the necklace on his neck and when bending the gnomon, right at the beginning, he stopped pointing the right way and was no longer useful. Throughout the entire MV he has the piece but never wears the necklace.
The gnomon is the key piece throughout the entire MV. It points the right way, the way of tolerance and peace that is used in the end in the character of hope that is the son of Dimash.
The military man who is the friend who saved Dimash's character in the beginning is the crazy Piper. Based on a medieval legend he presented a solution to the problems. A village was full of rats and out of nowhere Piper appeared with a miracle solution to solve the villagers' problems. By destroying the rats, he made all the children in the village disappear. This part is important because we must not believe the propaganda of these people who say they will solve problems but then do more harm than good.
The only way is union, tolerance for difference and believing that we can, together, follow the right path for all humanity.
Thwe Story: There were three friends. Already at that time the girl chose the protagonist (Dimash).
As adults, the girl and the protagonist had a daughter who he found dead and thought the whole family was dead. He went looking for revenge and killed his childhood friend who was the president, not knowing that his wife with the help of people from different backgrounds, cultures and religions gave birth to a boy who symbolizes the hope of unity. The protagonist also ends up dying. At the end of the video, the baby is already an adult who has managed to unite everyone on the path of humanity.
