Folks so often knock Rickies as merely one-trick ponies -- if only they could hear all the non-British Invasion/Byrds ground that Tobias has covered here at the VGO channel. Sometimes he gets a '60s pop vibe going, but very often he's taken the iconic Rick into jazz territory -- as he does here, with a Latin flavour. Show some imagination! -- that's what Tobias teaches us.

Tobias' playing is second to few, but the sound you are referring to is from the 12 string model 360, this is the 6 string. If this was a 12 , he might be jangling a little also👍

@@dandydave1949 Both John Lennon and, at times, Pete Townshend, to name a couple of notable '60s artists, played six-string Rickies. Their sounds have been widely imitated, too -- not just those of, say, George Harrison and Roger McGuinn.

That’s a charming jazz tune on a guitar more associated with rock n roll. It’s the sheer talent and versatility of the player that allows him to defy expectations making it sound and look simple when it isn’t at all. That means never knowing what to expect from his playing or the guitar and that’s what makes him such an exceptional player and so interesting to watch and listen to and learn from. He even surprised himself there at the end! In the past few months he’s not done the same style twice!! Also, when is his quartets album out and where do I get it? If you haven’t checked out their live set yet it can still be found on YT to watch. It’s fantastic!

This style of playing was widespread in my country, the Philippines, during the 1970s and 1980s. It was known as "Kundiman," and I believe it was heavily influenced by Spanish flamenco fused with our local culture. I often heard this music during serenades, a tradition of the past. I was born in the 1990s, and I started playing the guitar around 2006, a time when pop and rock dominated the music scene. However, when I saw someone playing music like this, it made me realize that there was so much more to learn on the guitar than I had ever imagined. It's a pure nostalgic experience! Thank you

Happy to know that! I have to investigate that Kundiman music.
Clearly it sounds to some sort of hispanic music to me (I live in Seville, south of Spain, where flamenco is everywhere). This fantatic demo by Tobias has reminded me a mixture between cuban and mexican music, which yes, was clearly influenced by flamenco and Canary Islands music. Specially it sounded to me like the beautiful music that Los Indios Tabajaras made some decades ago, as well as Los Panchos, a very famous mexican trio in the spanish world.
Really nice melodies so well played by Tobias, and incredible coming from a Rick. Bravo Tobias!
