yall read this:
upon listening to the deleted be more chill l song "touching my hand" I was disappointed that it couldn't make it into the final musical. (I like duets lol) I understand it was meant to be at the beginning of the play but didnt end up working in the narrative. So I tried moving things around myself to find a place where the song would be able to kind of make sense lol. i hope you enjoy what I came up with! also put some scenes to tie them together lol call me a screenwriter

yeah, touching my hand was a cut song from original bmc, so joe wrote loser geek whatever for broadway bmc inspired by this one :) tbh broadway bmc kinda ruined bmc for me, but if people enjoy it, who am i to stop them, right? overall, i like the original version more but there are some parts where the broadway one was better

this is actually one of my favourite BMC animatics. something about the expressions and the movement is super pretty and nostalgic. this obviously took a huge, huge amount of work and honestly it deserves a lot more attention! really really incredible.

ThEsEwInGgEeK miri from what I read the “jake” part at the end was supposed to not match the rest of the song. It was supposed to surprise the viewer to give the same experience that Jeremy was feeling in that moment.
The jake part was supposed to catch readers off gaurd because they would think this whole time she was talking about Jeremy

Man, I'm fascinated by how part 2 would have affected the show! In the final show it's clear that Christine likes Jake for his charm and earnestness, but here popularity is obviously a huge factor (without making her unlikable for it at all). I always thought the SQUIP was pretty stupid for thinking Christine cared about status but this definitely makes me reevaluate that. It would add an interesting layer to the "be yourself and don't worry about popularity" message if actually, no, there's good reason to believe that will keep you from the relationships you want. But it could muddy it up, too...I don't know! Just discovered this and it's so interesting to think about :D
I think it’s actually more like a miscommunication between Jeremy and Christine. Jeremy thinks that Christine likes Jake because he’s popular which only goes to prove his own previous convictions to himself and thrust him further down the path of improving his social status. But when Christine sings “he’s a pretty boy cliche as far as I can see, so why is he so interesting to me?” And the further context with guy that I’d kinda be into, Jake isn’t the guy she’d typically go for. She doesn’t like that he’s popular, she likes that he seemingly cared about her passion for theater and that her performance touched him.
But yeah, this song would’ve done great for making sense of Jeremy’s belief that he has to be popular in order for Christine to like him

I took it as her being attracted to that popularity in spite of herself, because she knows falling for the popular boy is cliche and shallow but the idea of being loved by someone popular overrides that. That's how I interpretted "always found him lame, all the same, he said I was good." But I also misheard "interesting to me" as "interested in me" so your correction muddies it

because jeremy's an ovethinker, so something as simple as that sends him into panic lol. tbh, it shows that holding hands isn't exactly a romantic thing, considering how calm christine was about touching jeremy's hand. but yeah, me too, i hold hands with my friends and people i know too without it being a big deal, or anything romantic 😂
