I've been doing Bread every day since I learned this method. If there is flour, water and butter.

- Mix flour with water and butter and you will thank my grandmother for the recipe. Everyone can easily make this bread recipe. This soft flatbread is perfect for breakfast as a wrap for any filling, sweet or savory! This recipe won't take long as we use yeast-free dough and don't need an oven! We no longer buy white bread in the store, it's easier and faster to make our own.
Bread recipe and ingredients:
300 milliliters warm water (1 1/2 cups)
410 grams flour (3 1/3 cups) + 1 tablespoon for kneading
1 teaspoon sugar (5 grams)
Melt 160 grams of butter
I use a 200 milliliters cup.

For those who want to try flat "breads" without wanting to use yeast or baking, check out recipes for "Parotta, Paratha, Chapathi, Phulka, Kulcha, Naan, Roti, Romali roti, Puri". These are all made with Maida(all purpose flour) or wheat flour. They don't go hard like tortillas because they don't have corn flour. They are all similar, but different taste and texture. They are easy to make at home since almost all households in Asian countries has them as part of their staple diet.
At our home, we make parottas in Maida and other items in the list in wheat flour. You can make the flour more healthy by adding oats 15%, Wheat 80%, millets(Ragi) 3-4% and psyllium husk 1-2%. In this way you can avoid being constipated from this.
I make and eat chappatti most days.... Atta, filtered water.... that's it!
Americans be like "Not.. Corn.. Is that a new General Mills brand?" We don't have wheat flour like that..
How about unleavened bread?
When you give them the recipe, they give no credit to India. Let them continue to be ignorant.
😊 thanks
You my dear Friend have learnt what East Africans have long enjoyed as Chapati.. 🇰🇪, though if truth be told, I would place the credit two-fold, Indian and Arab influence on the region, helped spread its word and taste..
Thanks Maruti 😊
This is parotta in india
Maruti = Air God VarunDev
@@cookingvooking56.. Is this for real.. Maan, this puts a whole new twist to name.. No more "the bread-van",... Son-of-an Air Deity..👍🏽👌
@@makokha75 Yes man, Maruti is the name for father of Lord Hanumaan ( incarnation of Lord Shiva ). He is very powerful ( you can think of all marvel comic superheroes altogether still they cannot match his powers ). He has a very special place in India and Indian History Ramayan. Its a special name in every sense. We worship Hanumaan Jee every Tuesday. And Hanumaan Chalisa is a script to please and worship him. Cheers.
I went to Morocco one time and they serve it in the morning with Honey and butter I really enjoyed it with mint tea. Definitely I’ll try it ❤️
Thanks Lilly 😎
Came to comments to say this is exactly like Chinese "yóu bǐng ", but seems like something similar is made all over the world, which is pretty amazing!
Yes, in different countries it is called differently.👌
Watching from India, it is traditionally called Rashmi roti meaning soft as silk.
This is truly love's labour, it is not fast nor easy to work with slightly sticky and soft dough. I will try it again with your recipe, thanks for sharing and inspiring 😀
Thanks, I hadn't heard of that name "Rashmi roti", now I'll know! 😊

It is the same as a Malabar parota
🤩
Great recipe! Thank you so much! This is almost like making danish pastry, only not so much butter and rolling and rerolling. I worked as a baker about 30 years ago, but I've kept up with my cooking skills both at home and professionally and it's taken me all over the country, learning from new cooks and chefs...but I've never seen this type of bread done this way, it's almost as easy as pancakes or bannock and even more versatile. Thanks again from Seattle!
Thanks 😍
This bread actually has many different names: roti in Trinidad, msemen in Morocco, Malawach in Yemen, Paratha in India, Prata in South East Asia, and I believe Turkey has something like this too. In Taiwan they add green onions before they roll it out, for a green onion pancake.
😊
It's actually called lachha paratha.
Malaysia... and we Malaysian love bread with curry.. 🇲🇾
Hi, yes, it's delicious with curry!😋
I'm watching from the United States. Brooklyn NY ❤
Thanks for your interest Gracie! Let me know how it goes when you try it out. 😎
Works well if you sprinkle the dough with parsley, black sesame seeds and garlic too🎉
Thanks for the recommendation 🤠
Wow, that sounds yummy!
🤩 thank u
If I ever was able to make this like you do, my spouse would ask for it all the time. And then I would be stuck making it for the rest of my life. 😂
😍 🥰
What kind of flour used.
Sam, cooking together is the best - and so much fun (then your spouse can make these for you on days you don't feel like it!)

I'm sure you'll love the recipe! 😊
This goes perfectly together with beef rendang and mutton curry. Currently watching from Jakarta, Indonesia.
Yes, I think it's delicious!✌️
Just made this. Subbed coconut oil for the butter. Was so flaky 😋. Will definitely make it again. Sending many thanks from California.
Thanks Joycelyn 😋
😡Jocelyn - Yum. I just finished eating some sweet potatoes sautéed in coconut oil.🥰. ❤ from San Diego.
I was hoping someone would have mentioned a substitute for butter. I will try both and see the difference. Any other substitute's for butter you can suggest?
😊 Olive oil or grapeseed oil.
Congratulations Gringo! You’ve reinvented the tortilla!
🥰This is an easy recipe to try, I'm sure you'll love it!
Kenya's favourite bread 😋😋
😜
What a wonderful video - I could almost taste the bread. I am going to be making this bread "almost" everyday, this is my kind of bread for the kind of dishes I love to make. It seems easy but it does take some time. You make perfectly round shapes. I like that because that is what I like to do when making pie crusts or pizza crusts etc. Thank you for taking the time to make this video for all of us. Mwah! 😘
Thank you, I am very glad that you appreciate my work!😉
search chapati on youtube thats more simple to make and more delicious
This comes at a great time . I just made homemade hummus ,this looks perfect. Cant wait.

I've tried dozens of naans, rotis, parathas and more trying to find a bread that looks remarkably like this, something I had on occasion on deployment but never knew the name of. I've been looking for a decade. I can't tell you how happy and excited I am to try this tonight.

It's a Malabar Parotta. Common in South Indian cuisine.
Wow, I'm really glad you found what you wanted!😋
@Cody Lambrecht I tried them too, I think I need a better butter and to add some oil to the dough, knead it a little more than I did for better gluten development but so close to what I want. Really good with hummus
Loved the music I was tapping my foot all the way through great stuff
Thanks James, glad you liked it. 🤩
Flat bread nice 👍🏼
😉👌
Watching from Sydney, Australia…my brother used to make this all the time when we were kids 😊
✌️😃👍
This reminds me of coming home from school every day to my misabuela making flour tortillas. It's the same basic ingredients and cooking style on the pan. The house would fill with this amazing smell and my cousins and I would fight for who got to eat the first one of the stove first (my misabuela said it brought you good luck). I miss those days.

I live in Williams Lake, British Columbia, Canada. I very much enjoy watching you mix the ingredients and handle the dough. I have recently begun baking again. You have inspired me. I will be trying some of your recipes. Thankyou.

I'm from Algeria, and this is a traditionnal bread in my country called Msammen. It is comsummed only in breakfast or evening meal with black or white coffee. It is generally made in a rectangular shape.
Ive bought this from turkish/arabic shops

@@FastEasyRecipes actually it's Moroccan 🇲🇦
😻 😼 😽
It’s from Morocco lol, you can google it. They call it the Moroccan Pancake in english
it's called "Paratha". It is actually quite time consuming. You can buy these in the frozen section of international stores. Quite cheap...you just have to do the part on the pan.
It is better to make them yourself from start to finish. In any case, homemade flatbreads are much tastier!👌
My best friends mother always made this and I loved eating with his family because off this bread that his mother made. thank you!

Thanks Muwanga ❤
flatbreads are the best
Thanks😊
You make this look easy but I know from trying flat breads/soft shells that is harder than it looks to get the right texture....every batch of flour is different. You give weight measurement which is the best way IMO. The rolling and brushing with butter and then flattening out and rolling again is new to me. I am going to give this a try. It really does look delicious!
Thanks😃
Yes I agree. Making bread is an art. Only practice makes perfect. Looks delicious 😋
I made these today and served them with roasted potato, aubergine and red pepper slices, boiled egg, amba sauce, home made harissa sauce and chopped salad and they were perfect ☺️ My son tasted the first one and told me it tasted like a matzo. It did...crunchy as a cracker: but for some reason the rest were fluffy and delicious. It's like pancakes I guess: the first is just to get the pan ready.
Years ago now, I had a Pakistani friend, whose grandmother cooked these on a regular basis, but with a wholemeal flour I think.
Thank you thank you thank you! Now I can replicate a little the happy evenings spent around my childhood friend's table ☺️
😻 😼 😽
Yeah this is a lot of work to create a form of laminations with butter. Might be way faster to mix em it all and bake biscuits.
Looks amazing!!
Thanks 🤠

Thank you friend, glad you like it! 😊
From Indonesia 🇲🇨, i will try ur way InshaAllah. Thank you.
😍 Try to cook it, you will like it!
Several Times i tried making bread but failed. I also once tried another recipe like ur way but they put too much butter so i don't think it's healthy and i don't like the taste bcos just too oily. Urs doesnt use much butter so hopefully i can b successful making it and the judges a.k.a my kids would want to eat it sincerely. My kids are nice judges, when they don't like the food i cook, they still say it's good but i know it's not that good when they don't want to eat it some more🤣🤣🤣. So thank you for this recipe.
You can simply reduce the amount of butter and the recipe won't be as greasy.👌
Watching from Ipswich, Australia! 🇦🇺 looks fabulous, can't wait to try it, thankyou!🤗

For those discussing the origins of this bread, I recommend the book Flatbreads and Flavors by Naomi Duguid and Jeffery Alford. It's a beautiful book from the 90s. The couple are writers and photographers and document their travels all over learning wonderful recipes and stories. It's a romantic history of origins and commonalities between different flatbreads.

In Trinidad and Tobago we call it paratha too. We have a heavy influence of east Indians in our culture although our process is a bit different.

sort of a cross between pastry and a flour tortilla. Looks like they would be good for rollups. I'm already thinking of sprinkling cinnamon sugar on it during the roll up folding steps.
It's a good idea to add cinnamon sugar mixture!👌
Growing up in the South (southeast USA),my mother would make these for breakfast and serve them with syrup or honey. She called them flour-bread pancakes. The first time I had regular "box mix" pancakes they tasted weird. The texture was wrong...spongy not the flaky buttery goodness I was use to.
I don't trust "box mix" pancakes. Homemade flatbreads made from regular wheat flour are much tastier.🙂

In Taiwan, they add green onions.
I clicked thinking maybe you were going to show how to make the bread that my grandmother made and taught me to make. There were many times during my childhood, and also later in life, that knowing her recipe was invaluable. If you have flour, water, and a little oil or lard, you mix the flour and water and then fry it. My grandparents grew up in the south, (USA), and learned the recipe from people that had ancestors who grew up on plantations. They called it, "hoe cake" because they had made the cakes on garden hoes over an open fire. Grandmother made her bread in what she called a large "pone" big enough to fit the entire skillet. It takes a little practice to learn how to flip a pone that big, but it sure tasted wonderful. In fact, she made a gravy of flour, lard and water, also, and many times we had that bread and gravy for breakfast and dinner, and it saw us through. (Edited to add USA).
Thanks for your interesting and informative story! It is always interesting to know the opinion and experience of other people.😃
