Super video. I'd never thought of using stamps to ink the lino. Just one thing though, please don't cut towards your fingers. Those cutters are really sharp and can do serious damage to fingers. Best to use a cutting board with a stop on one edge and push the lino to the stop and cut in that direction; you can always turn the lino round as you need to.
I've just done my first ever lino stamp and was so happy to see you use stamps. I wanted a print to show to my friend, but doing the roll on inking would habe been too messy for my tiny room. So this was the perfect solution for a quick first print. Thank you so much. ❤️🙏🏻
Hey Eliott! Just wanted to let you know that your video was SUPER useful. Straight forward and clear. It helped me a lot during my first attempt of lino printing. Thanks!
Make your own wrapping paper. 😊 As I a kid we did lino sketching in art class, but the technique went away like so many. Glad to see it has returned. Hello from Queensland Australia.
Very insightful to teach us the tracing paper method and even showing your brand of EssDee lino cutters. Halfway through my college Final Major Project and wanted to experiment with a new printing technique, this's really helped, thank you
Such an inspirational and educational video I am getting started with making stamps like that but I'm just a beginner so you trace carve out the outline of whatever it is that you're going to use as a stamp 👍👍👍
I had seen this video awhile ago but have just revisited it! I totally forgot about the tracing paper trick! Ive been using carbon transfer paper and its such a pain. Your work is gorgeous, as a fellow print maker; your hand seems so steady!
Try using a bit of foam under your stamping area to help with your impressions. Would also recommend a product called ez mount. You can back them and use an old cd case to print them with. Nice video! Thanks! Hope that tip helps!
@@EliottBulpett :) I was researching for work and all the other videos were long or used like really unaccessible materials and were boring etc, but yeah, will defo watch more of your stuff

Hey there, I'm watching this to start using lino stamps and such bc I'm making/drawing/painting on my own clothing and I was wondering if i printed a lino piece onto my clothing would the ink stay on in the wash?
Hi Tom, you can definitely use lino to add designs to clothing, but you'd need to find ink that will go onto clothes. It would be an ink that you would have to roll onto the lino rather than the types of stamps I used in the video!
@@EliottBulpett Ah right, thank uou for the advice, I appreciate it. Would it be better to use ink or fabric paint do u think? It might be useful to paint that onto the lino, or I might just try both and see what washes off
Very relaxing, informative demo. Thank you. I want to give it a try at least once but don't want to spend a fortune on cutters for a one-off fad (perhaps!).
I'm glad you enjoyed the video!! If you just want to try it out, a lot of cutters made for students, like the ones I use, aren't too expensive! I think I bought this set for about £6-8?
@@EliottBulpett I see. I have another question, both sides of lino board can be used or one side only? Does it have front and back side of lino? Sorry, it is a first time for me to use it 😅😅

Hi! I really want to try lino printing, but I’m not totally sure what kit or supplies I need. Where did you buy your stamp base? And what carving tools did you use? It would really help by putting a link. Thank you so much!!
Hi Erin, I bought the lino material from my college and it didn't have a brand name on so I don't have a link for that I'm afraid but its a type of soft lino if you're trying to find some! The cutting tools are from a brand called Essdee (www.essdee.co/Products.aspx) they have loads of the supplies you would need for lino printing (including some that I don't have but are useful) and I think they do starter sets too which would be useful!
I'm just now getting into lino cutting (age 42) after doing it once in middle school decades ago. Thank you for the tracing paper tip - that's huge.
That's awesome, I'm so glad you found it helpful!

This is a brilliant video it is the first time I've ever seen a lino cutting and I am now going to try and do it myself many thanks again🌻🌷🌿💖⚘
The paper would work for wrapping gifts...its wonderful
I’ve done that with rolled butcher paper. It took 2 layers to properly obscure the gift, but was otherwise wonderful. 😎
Yeah it is amazing for presenting
