I agree with your take entirely, and I've slogged through most of the ancillary material. I think the scope of the show is all wrong. This is High Republic era, it should be big and expansive and show us things we've never seen in Star Wars because all of that decayed by the time of the OT. Are you excited for any of the Star Wars films that have been announced. Like Mandalorian and Grogu, the Rey film, Shawn Levy's Star Wars film, or Dave Filoni's Star Wars film?
I'm mildly curious to find out what Shawn Levy is up to, but that's about it at this point. I could be turned around by a solid premise and good trailer on any of them... well except Mandalorian.
This perfectly sums up the show writing issue. Moss says “a jedi only lights their lightsaber to kill” and then yor uses the lightsaber as a flashlight…. It’s so disturbingly disconnected it’s so situational.
That felt to me like character development. It shows the difference between a more zen medium and the other character who seems to be more trigger happy and Gung ho
I haven't watched it yet. Actually I think the only live action SW show I've watched is Obi Wan. I'm always more interested in animation than live action. I've heard Abigail Thorn is in it though and I'm curious about who she's playing.
This is the first Star Wars show or otherwise I decide to watch. I’m mostly watching for Amandla, Carrie-Anne and Abigail, and I must say, so far it’s been quite alright.
I don't feel like I can really analyse this show yet because there's 6 episodes left and most of the stuff that could make or break the show hasn't happened yet. What I've seen so far is decent enough. Leaning more positive. No negative feelings, just indifferent. Fingers crossed though.
Based on the portrayals in other media of Jedi in the Prequel(ish) era, I can confidently tell you that you're right it's a deliberate choice that they're making the Jedi seem mostly unlikeable. Clone Wars and Tales of the Jedi in particular made it very clear that the Jedi's emotional detachment and isolated upbringings had caused them to become detached from the reality the people were living in. (This isn't me criticising you for not watching other shows, I'm just providing the context to show that you're right on the money with that remark) They're essentially out of touch space cops, with only Jedi like Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan (sometimes), Anakin, Ahsoka and Dooku (before he fell to the dark side) paying attention to the people while the others serve only politicians and their interests. Many of the people see through the Jedi for this and hate them, there are protest movements against their involvement in the Republic. The Acolyte's showrunner is very much into Star Wars deep lore so she's most likely familiar with this. One line that stuck out to me was when the Jedi were discussing the suspicion that a former Padawan was Indara's murderer, and Sol said that if that went public then "our political enemies will use it against us". Because THAT is the Jedi's concern when someone is murdered by a potential ex-Padawan. Politics. Does that seem like something the Original Trilogy Jedi would say? No, because they'd been forced to learn from their mistakes. Especially Yoda, who was perhaps the most guilty of all (along with Mace Windu). This is the Jedi at the height of their power and therefore at the height of their hubris and arrogance.
No offense but this is a misinterpretation The Jedi exist to maintain the utopia that is the galactic republic If they don’t go in swords ablazing to planets like Tatooine it’s because 1) they can’t risk full scale war 2) they can’t risk the psychological effects of the violence because it will turn them to the dark side 3) points 1 and 2 combined
@@KRobinson-ko1ne you are correct on all of those points, but they are not excuses for how they ignore the mistreatment of citizens on Republic planets, which is what I was referring to. The Republic is not even close to a utopia, it was rife with corruption and poverty even before it had a Sith in charge. Corporations within the Republic are allowed to own entire planets (like the horror that was the East India Company). Coruscant's lower levels are literally slums run by gangsters. Senators blatantly steal from their own people. By simply maintaining this status quo rather than actively working to improve it, the Jedi make themselves part of the problem. Dooku and Qui-Gon were the only pre-Clone-Wars Jedi willing to speak out about this, and so were both branded radicals - look how much animosity Yoda has towards Qui-Gon in The Phantom Menace, even after his death. Dooku got so desperate to bring change that he ended up working with the enemy (he was in too deep by the time he realised that was even worse, and so gave in and lost himself to the darkness).
Ever think that part of the problem is that writing for Jedi is writing for basically the FBI? There really needs to be mystery to make them interesting. There is something not quite there for this show yet. I truly hope it comes together and these were just imperfect episodes because I don’t care about any of the characters yet
I’m sorry but the Jedi were right If you think the Jedi are the real bad guys you’re misinterpreting them: I’m not George’s writing isn’t flawed but there are reasons for certain decisions
If someone had said that this takes place 100 years after the movies instead of before, I wouldn't have known the difference. Jedis are gonna Jedi and Sith are gonna Sith. Watch Star Wars Visions season 2. It's MUCH less Jedi-obsessed than season 1. Episodes like "I Am Your Mother" are pure, Jedi-free fun.
I'm a bit Jedi't out by SW, so this isn't grabbing me yet. Also, I really hope we get a real baddie and that the good twin turns out to be the 'bad' one, however I'm not looking forward to yet another redemption arc, so maybe this series isn't really for me. Then again, I really didn't care about the Bad Batch in Clone Wars and their series turned out great, so we'll see what happens.
For me I liked it overall but showing what happened to the twins would have been better than just referencing it a few times cause it just jumps into Mae’s revenge plot with no context for it
I binged Clone Wars recently, and it is a bit hit and miss in quality, but Rebels was pretty consistently good and yeah, Ahsoka is pretty much Season 5 of Rebels in live action. I'd be interested to maybe look up and see why you didn't like the Mandalorian. Season 3 had issues, but 1 and 2 especially were great for me. As for the Acolyte, I'm w/holding judgement until I've seen more of the story.
It just didn’t grab me. I finished season one, did the first episode of season two and realized “I don’t actually care, and I’m only here out of a vague sense of obligation.”
@@BreakRoomofGeeks To each their own then. But hey if you ever do watch Rebels, Tom Baker voices a cool recurring character, so it scored big with me for that alone!
I have loved Star Wars for over 40 years and I have to agree, Jedi are boring. Everyone knows it but they don't want to admit it. Take a look at the video games. Every time you get a game where you play as a Jedi, you are running, jumping, deflecting laser blasts and using the Force in awesome ways because that makes a game exciting. However, that is not how the Jedi are portrayed in the movies, except for maybe Anakin. As for this show, I also thought they were going to do a split personality situation, but no. Oh, and I think everyone figured out that Carrie Ann Moss was going to die right away.
Personally I'm at a crossroads with this show. I felt the first 2 episodes were ok and I'm intrigued but not quite interested/invested. Im still waiting for the thing that grabs me. I dont quite know yet where the show is taking us but im willing to give it a chance
eh, it's alright so far? Hard to say. The plot seems a little thin, stereotypical and unbelievable. The acting isn't too bad. I'm used to seeing worse walking into a new series. We'll have to see. Only 2 episodes to judge so far. I think I'll be able to make an honest judgement half season in.
I liked it a lot. But I like Jedi and force stuff. But I think I liked most Star Wars stuff (Boba Fett and Obi Wan were the only disappointments for me for now, and the sequels of course).
I'm the opposite. I don't really like the Jedi and force stuff especially during pre OT. I Don't like the prequel stuff except the 2003 clone wars so all the clone wars/rebels/bad batch/prequel films/etc but i did like book of boba Fett. Most of it i liked
Wait, a guy with a BLACK lightsaber? There’s only one black lightsaber in Star Wars and it was made by a Mandalorian Jedi. The ONLY Mandalorian to ever become a Jedi.
I think it’s interesting to talk about the toxic masculinity baked into the religion of Star Wars going back to 77. Beside the garbage concept of good and evil at war (again just basic religious tinker toys) we have the Jedi who are only strong if they let go of community and family. Like where would the story be if those asshats has just gone back for Anakin’s mom and perhaps hugged the kid once in a while? I love Star Wars in my own nostalgic GenX girl way but it’s no wonder the fandom is just as batshit as it is.
Jedi are like Green Lanterns, nobody seems to know what to do when there's a whole bunch of them. It's always internal problems, rather than a foe/ challenge that makes them break a sweat. I want to like this, but aside from the young alien padawan, I don't really like/care about anyone else in the cast. She's the only one that seems good at her job. Great looking show, but the ideas...she has an evil twin...seriously?
If found it a bit dull. I like Osha, and I’m curious as to why she left the Jedi. Ahsoka Tano’s departure from the Jedi was one of the best pieces of writing in all of SW, animated or not, so I’m curious as to Osha’s reasons. Something that occurred to me just now is why Carrie Ann Moss did not sense that this was not the girl she knew. Even with twins, she should’ve been able to sense her in the Force. Or if she did, did she know about the twin and that she had survived? Anyway, I’ll stick with the show for now. As for Clone Wars, you do NOT need to watch the whole show, as I know you don’t have the time. I would just watch the last season which was 7 episodes about 20 minutes each. The final season of Bad Batch was quite good, and just like Clone Wars, it stuck the landing. Well worth a watch, even if only for your own pleasure and not the channel. Once again, happy Pride!🏳️🌈
Not got d tv but this dosent hold me I do like proper jedi the whole no emotion is daft tho I agree makes it boring I dint think that's how Alec guiness played it I even liked the remake of vader scene on here
thats probably almost never gonna happen in a major way. theres tons of lore in the past going back thousands of years. after Rise of Skywalker Jedi basically dont exist anymore and for a LOT of people the good guys and bad guys with colored laser swords IS the draw of star wars.
I don’t want to see Trinity die, Jesus fucking CHRIST, Disney! Read the room! What an awful thing to do to bait everyone. Does this count as queer baiting? I really, really think that it is. It’s at least adjacent to it. I am not inclined to give Disney the benefit of a doubt. They’ve made consistently poor choices with the Star Wars universe. Oy vey 😅
If if it turns out they're going to do One of the things with Carrie Ann Moss characters I think they're going to do . I'm going to be a little upset cuz it's very lazy. I already think the twin idea is lazy. If that master is one of the three people I think it is it's lazy. And that's just after watching two episodes. And why do all the sets and set pieces feel so freaking small. The show apparently has a bigger Budget than Andro. But doesn't feel as wide open and expansive and it says as Andor did . it feels very claustrophobic which is odd because they did not use the volume for the show.
My main problem is that besides Carrie Anne Moss everyone else is acting really bad, specially Osha and Mae, it feels as flat as Rosario Dawson playing Ashoka, or worse.
One thing I really liked about this show is that it sets up clichés and opportunities for miscommunication and needless suspicion, then it just resolves them immediately.

I'm mildly curious to find out what Shawn Levy is up to, but that's about it at this point. I could be turned around by a solid premise and good trailer on any of them... well except Mandalorian.
I have nothing to add, I'm just commenting in the hope that commenting makes your video do better algorithmically.
I meant that he comes across as more young police officer than zen jedi
(This isn't me criticising you for not watching other shows, I'm just providing the context to show that you're right on the money with that remark)
They're essentially out of touch space cops, with only Jedi like Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan (sometimes), Anakin, Ahsoka and Dooku (before he fell to the dark side) paying attention to the people while the others serve only politicians and their interests.
No offense but this is a misinterpretation
The Jedi exist to maintain the utopia that is the galactic republic
If they don’t go in swords ablazing to planets like Tatooine it’s because
1) they can’t risk full scale war
2) they can’t risk the psychological effects of the violence because it will turn them to the dark side
3) points 1 and 2 combined
I really enjoyed the premiere episodes. Yeah, a bit too much exposition dumps and some logical problems, but I still had fun :)
Oh, Vera, at first I tought you did not like Andor! Glad to know that's not the case.
Ever think that part of the problem is that writing for Jedi is writing for basically the FBI?
There really needs to be mystery to make them interesting.
There is something not quite there for this show yet. I truly hope it comes together and these were just imperfect episodes because I don’t care about any of the characters yet
I’m sorry but the Jedi were right
If you think the Jedi are the real bad guys you’re misinterpreting them: I’m not George’s writing isn’t flawed but there are reasons for certain decisions
I agree, I liked it ok but my motivation to tune in next week ain't that high.
I think they make Jedi too easy to kill but this has been a problem for me since Order 66.
eh, it's alright so far? Hard to say. The plot seems a little thin, stereotypical and unbelievable. The acting isn't too bad. I'm used to seeing worse walking into a new series. We'll have to see. Only 2 episodes to judge so far. I think I'll be able to make an honest judgement half season in.
The Clone Wars show is actually pretty okay. Not my favorite part of start of Star Wars or anything, but worth a watch.
Andor this is not, but so far it's setting itself up as a solid 7/10 and there are worse things to be.
enjoyed the acolyte cant wait for more
What do you like about it?
Not got d tv but this dosent hold me I do like proper jedi the whole no emotion is daft tho I agree makes it boring I dint think that's how Alec guiness played it I even liked the remake of vader scene on here
I understand where you're coming from. I am starting to lose interest in these Star Wars and Marvel shows on Disney+.
My problem with star wars is uts stuck in the past. Can we please get stories set past rise of Skywalker
thats probably almost never gonna happen in a major way. theres tons of lore in the past going back thousands of years. after Rise of Skywalker Jedi basically dont exist anymore and for a LOT of people the good guys and bad guys with colored laser swords IS the draw of star wars.
But doesn't feel as wide open and expansive and it says as Andor did . it feels very claustrophobic which is odd because they did not use the volume for the show.
hmm.
The sith isn’t moss it’s likely and telegraphed to be the twins mother
My main problem is that besides Carrie Anne Moss everyone else is acting really bad, specially Osha and Mae, it feels as flat as Rosario Dawson playing Ashoka, or worse.
