There is an Italian movie called Cosi fan Tutte, but set in the 1970s. It’s actually quite funny and sexy.

I don't care, I LOVE Cosi fan tutte. I can easily suspend disbelief when naive enamoured people are involved. (On a side note, I love drinking tea, so you're cool in my book.)

I watched MetOpera 2014 version and I think women in Così are real tragic heroes while the men are portrayed ridiculously: this is to me a manifesto of the greatness of femininity. Males in the opera are superficial and irrational, insecure and competitive; they either brag or cry and finally impose that absurd finale on women which leaves us with a sense of uncertainty about everyone’s happiness with that absurd poison reference. Truly women in the opera are smart and witty and sensitive and true to themselves even in their tragic final renounce. I think this is a tragedy on the stupidity of toxic masculinity

Well we have to remember that many of the operas today are directed by men. I'm unfortunately not too familiar with the Met production and will definitely give a look.
But I completely agree with you the women have so much character in this opera! It's a shame its not always presented!

I think that's exactly the point of this opera (some sentences do sting of course but it makes sense for the characters to sing them)

Check out the film ‘Closer’ which is inspired by the four lovers in Cosi.

For what’s its worth, without trying to simplify it too much, I think the moral of the story is that men are idiots, no matter what power plays they make in society.

The two men’s new names are mentioned by Despina, only in act 2 finale though.

@@VivsGreen Their "names" are Tizio and Sempronio. However, as Thomas has written, they are mentioned in Act 2 by Despina who is acting as a notary:
"Per contratto - da me fatto / Si congiunge in matrimonio, / Fiordiligi con Sempronio, / E con Tizio Dorabella"
Tizio, Caio e Sempronio are Italian Tom, Dick, and Harry - placeholder names for unspecified people and even to this day they are used in Italian jurisprudence to denote anonymous parties, or e.g. to give examples etc.
