It's that time of year again, getting the chesties and head torch on. Good to see you back on the beach wit bait. Laughed when you got a bite when having a pee, we've all been there. I always seem to get a bight as soon as my wife rings to see how I'm doing. One's better than none, so good start.
Felt good to be back on the beach, even with the fishing being slow. Need to drink a lot more water before heading out, might help with the catch rate 😉

Another great video and a free delivery of beer🙂 Canny job catching a codling when the sea was as flat as a fa*t. There's something about watching a tip light that you just can't resist 👍
I know, I was spoilt, beer and a fish. There was actually a canny sea running, but that beach does a good job of reducing it a bit. You're right about the tip light, I find the same with a float and a fire. Tight lines👍🎣
Not long got in and was bored looking for something to watch and boom, a new slippy limpets video. Buzzing. Great watch as always. That black lug from billys is good stuff. Me old man got some last week and was catching straight away. Once he ran out he didn't catch a thing. Looking forward to the next vid. 👍
Always happens .Nothing biting ,but as soon as you go for a piss or pour yourself a cuppa you get a bite. Keep up the good work. I look forward to your videos.
I prefer lure fishing but the beach ssssions are where I started out and still really enjoy them, especially if the weather's bad. Something about standing on a beach in the middle of nowhere battling the elements really keeps me entertained
That's gt me rev'd up for the season. I sed to use a fixed spool. Gonto a slosh and reel down. Took some getting used to but transformed my casting. Worth a try... Tight lines!
Nice one hope you get amongst them! Funny you should say that about the reels, I started out with a low slung slosh and saltist but moved to a fixed spool. Mainly because o like fishing with braid too much, which I had on my multipliers, but if I got an over-run then it was game over.
You can put a sliding stop knot on the rig body between the link clip and first bead for a pully rig that will have the bite detection and self hooking of a patternosta while still getting your lead out the way with bigger fish like a pulley. I call it a pullynosta
Just happy to be out fishing! I do sometimes have a pre-baited trace, but the 2 reasons why I sometimes don't do it are- sometimes I miss bites while wrapping a 2nd trace and, in this vid, pre rigging fresh baite leaves the lovely scent all over the ground rather than in the water
Eyup fella! You're back on the bait then and catching fish which is all good. I have a sneaky suspicion that the worm helped. I was snooping a mark this weekend where the Bass had clearly been truffling up worms near high tide and they might not have been interested in much else. I caught half a dozen there once on small blow lug while a bunch of guys nearby using soft shell crab got nowt. They couldn't believe it. I dug my bait out of the sand behind me just before fishing while they had paid through the nose at the bait shop. Who knows? I'll sithi after, Dave.
Alreet Dave, I think you're right about the worm, there's a ton of small worm casts on that beach and, as you found out, matching the hatch is always more successful that chucking random baits, flies and lures. Tight line🎣👍
That was one hard won Codling! Took my first Codling of the season last week off my local beach on Ragworm. Similar size, bit of a surprise really as I was targeting Bass. Great video really enjoyed it.
Caught my first double figure cod under the same circumstances, taking a leak, rod went mental ran over and would it in with waders around my ankles. Had no right to land it. Funny how that happens. Thanks as always, Adz, and tight lines👍🎣
Great to see these come back around! I’m just getting back fishing from good few years out. Is there any chance or have you in the past done any videos on your Riggs you use please ?

love to see cod off the beach, you say you don't have your silly hat on yet you have the chest waders, im sure the kit you have you should be able to cast far enough from the sand, and its safer, i once walk along the waters edge getting to the fishing mark and i stepped in a hole that the kids had dug during the day, soaked to just above the waist, my fishing buddies laughed their heads off, cold winters day too
Yeah, the waders are great for rain or casting a bit further when needed. Must admit that does sound funny, luckily for me it's not really a holiday makers beach so little chance of me falling down a hole. The silly hat is in reserve for when it gets cold and wet. Tight lines👍🎣
@@SlippyLimpets just after i had reached my fishing spot a girl went by walking a pony, the pony head butted the sand as its front feet went in the same hole
Always enjoy the vids. If you're just swinging a medium cast out, maybe use a 1up, 1dn paternoster. Vary your baits, and sizes etc. And if one hook is being crabbed, it means the other might still be fishing. I know you're a pretty experienced angler, like, so forgive me if this is obvious advice. Keep 'em coming...
Good effort mate l think it going to be a good season this year.as I've had some decent stamp fish from the rocks.i was fishing just along from you last week and i got battered by weed all night but got to take the rough with the smooth.
🤞 mate, that beach can be a nightmare with weed, it was a tough night with the weed, but I somehow managed to find a clear spot and ended up with 6 fish.
Ah nice one you did well there it was a testing night. l m back there this weekend to fish over low water so hopefully I can winkle out a few.love the channel mate keep up the good work.
funny thing...here in Florida I don't move unless the rod is bent in half and line is screaming...once or twice I've just stood there and watched.. it's just such an amazing moment... I've lost more fish of a lifetime then the average shore fisherman...but I've caught a few...
Generaly ive found that when your bait comes back untouched it means the crab and small stuff know theres cod about.. so now you know.. for a change the fylde coast is throughing up quite lot of coddling at the moment.

Didn't blank so that's a win even if it was the only one. Codling have been caught on the south coast (near me) recently so I reckon I gotta get out there! I have a box of frozen squid stuffed with cart so that's gonna be my weapon of choice, I reckon the reason your evening was so slow was not because of the bait but lack of fish in the area. Good video, Tight lines for the next one!
I've heard a few people mention there's finally some cod down south, hope you get amongst them! Still a bit warm up here so you could be right about the lack of fish.
Seems to be your favourite beach, the declivity (posh eh?) on that beach is very shallow, and as you pointed out it even rises in some areas. Realistically as it is barren above the lw marks (excepting rocks) fish are hard to find, as you know the time to fish it is 2 hrs either side of lw in the dark. The beach, and the next one to the North are great with worm for flatfish, even in daylight, you do get the odd good night with small cod, whiting and coleys, but you need to cast a lot further to get the bigger ones. Lugworm and peeler crab are killers, I tried squid a couple of times and although you seem to have some success I always blanked. By God lad you are one dedicated angler, hat's off to you, I found a bell so it's yours if I ever see you - every time you turn your back there's a bite lol.
Great word that, I've added that to my vocabulary. It's a beach I've fished loads and really enjoy fishing it. I thought I'd figured it out over the years but it still throws up surprises, big fish when there's not meant to be any etc. I've even had session wereni had to take a break from catching fish. Alas, it's getting more popular these days. Squid is new to me but yet to fish it outside of a cocktail bait but have seen a 4-5lb bass take a full squid, at high tide, from there. The bell is looking more and more like a good option. Tight Lines 👍🎣
Perseverance paid off in the end. Early days yet but they are definitely in.Seen a few lads on here catching. I had a session Friday night and only caught a doggie a chuck, plus a doggie and dab on the same rig, don't know how they managed that. Your lucky, you don't seem to get them on the east coast.
Yeah, by all accounts it could be a good season🤞 I've only ever caught 2 in 15 years, funnily enough was speaking to an old fish filleter theother day and he mentioned they used to get tons of doggies to work through, so reckon they were probably over fished a good few years ago. Still take a doggie over a whiting as a blank saver!
AWESOME Nathan. Glad you didn't blank - nice codling. When I fish off the beach, I've got accustomed to keeping a rig ready baited and weighted under the tripod so that I always have bait in the water - even when fishing 2 rods. Do you ever lure-fish at night? I saw Matt (@saltwaterangler) had good success recently. Wind was up this weekend in north Kent so didn't get to fish. Tight lines!
I used to pre-bait a rig when I only fished worm or crab baits, but noticed all of the lovely juice/scent laying on the sand so soon packed it in. Now I'm using more frozen bait there's no reason why I shouldn start it up again🤔 Yep, bass fishing at night is my 2nd favourite way to catch them, top water being the 1st. I once had a 72cm take right at my feet, no visual stimulus, just the rod buckling and the drag screaming and all hell breaking loose. Well worth giving it a try. Tight lines LV👍🎣
@@SlippyLimpets Fair dues. I imagine lure fishing at night doesn't film well - esp when fish get spooked by lights. I'm keen to give it a go, even though I much prefer daytime fishing. Hi, Nathan. Well done👏, saved a blank. Deserved. 👍 I've seen other videos of cod off the NE coast the last couple of weeks.🎣🎣 So hopefully you could be in for a good season🤞🙏. Down here at Teesside we will have to see how the new crustacean catastrophe pans out.🥺🥺🫣😲 Can I ask how many times you wrap your line on the cannon, and why please?👍 Looking to get one, but differing opinions on how to use it.🤔 Thanks. Great channel. Thanks. Take care and stay safe.😷🙊
Hi Ian, catastrophe is the right word, hopefully I'm wrong, but reckon it'll have a knock on effect up and down the coast. I wrap the Canon 4 or 5 times, not really needed but I do it to take a bit of the stress off my reel. Great little devices, however you use them. Hope I'm wrong about the crabs and you have a good season👍🎣
Hi Nathan, quick question, why do you wrap your line around the casting cannon 3 or 4 times? I use a cannon and only put it undervthe capstan once, iv never had line slip on the cast, even full pendulum or off the ground with the rod fully compressed, Is there something i dont know.?
Hi Chris, I do it just to take a bit of stress of my reel, not really needed with my lack of casting skils, but it's a habit I got into. Cheers, Nathan
...another thing I'd forgot to mention and the main reason I started wrapping the Canon more times. The bail arm catches my braid when I'm releasing it, meaning I had a weak spot after a few casts. Having more tension taken off the spool means I can twist it anticlockwise and release the bail arm without catching the braid. If I wrap the Canon once then the braid slips through.
@@SlippyLimpets my biggest fish have been caught at night alone..i fight the fish in..fight to land it..then fight to release it.. big black tip shark..50inch long nose gar..48 inch giant red fish that broke tha barrel swivel landing it.... it's fun..
Nathan, see with the Vass waders, rude question, but what do you wear under them? I’ve had issues with them burning my shins on sessions which makes the session brutal, and the 2 or 3 days to follow. Have you had any issues with and do you have any suggestions about how to prevent skin burn?
I see that you're using cart with your squid, do you have any luck catching cod without using cart, just using squid on its own, or do need to use a cocktail?
First time watching for a while really missed the cod fishing nice to get a codling on the first session still early but a good sign looking forward to your videos again they are class 👏👏🎣🎣
Yep, it's called Cart and is the red meat from female brown/eater crab that has been heavily salted. Can't really use it by its self unless you use PVA bags/mesh. Great in a cocktail, though
@@SlippyLimpets will keep an eye out for it but can't say I've ever seen it in local tackle shops. Always thought there must be some good attractant to add to baits, tried putting pierced cod liver oil capsules on but seemed to attract more crabs than anything

Can I ask how many times you wrap your line on the cannon, and why please?👍
Looking to get one, but differing opinions on how to use it.🤔 Thanks.
Cheers,
Nathan
...another thing I'd forgot to mention and the main reason I started wrapping the Canon more times. The bail arm catches my braid when I'm releasing it, meaning I had a weak spot after a few casts. Having more tension taken off the spool means I can twist it anticlockwise and release the bail arm without catching the braid. If I wrap the Canon once then the braid slips through.
yup...casts always feel farther at night..
Really need to work on my casting skills, or just keep fishing after dark
@@SlippyLimpets my biggest fish have been caught at night alone..i fight the fish in..fight to land it..then fight to release it.. big black tip shark..50inch long nose gar..48 inch giant red fish that broke tha barrel swivel landing it.... it's fun..
Nathan, see with the Vass waders, rude question, but what do you wear under them? I’ve had issues with them burning my shins on sessions which makes the session brutal, and the 2 or 3 days to follow. Have you had any issues with and do you have any suggestions about how to prevent skin burn?
fresh dug lug is best
Can't beat fresh bait
Fish is a fish , at least your not plagued with pin whiting like we are in the south east
Caught a couple of whiting for the first time last year, hopefully not they're not going to turn in a plague!
@@SlippyLimpets they are a good live bait for Cod
Got circle hooks in my box now, so might give that a blast if I ever catch another one
I see that you're using cart with your squid, do you have any luck catching cod without using cart, just using squid on its own, or do need to use a cocktail?
I've not actually tried squid by itself but i know people who've had good success with it.
First time watching for a while really missed the cod fishing nice to get a codling on the first session still early but a good sign looking forward to your videos again they are class 👏👏🎣🎣
Cheers Mick, hopefully it'll be a good season this year with a few more bigger fish than last year🤞 Tight lines!
Can I ask what was the metal clip on the reel seat that you wrapped line around? Also what's its used for? Cheers
Sure, it's called a Breakaway Canon, and prevents braid cutting your fingers when casting.
@@SlippyLimpets save electric tape in your finger tips. Great video as always
what beach were you on. looks like druridge
Bit further north, past the Aln
Caught with your pants down love it 😂😂 what video editor do you use please
Not an expression i use all that often. I use Adobe Premiere Pro, canny expensive but it's what I'm used to.
@@SlippyLimpets OK cool I use filmora at the moment but looking to upgrade to a better service
Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro are excellent, but Davinci Resolve is just as good and free, unless you want to edit 4k footage
Thanks for the replies and the recommendations will have a look about
Al be watching this later
Hope you enjoyed
@@SlippyLimpets I did mate
Why do ye like fishing the ebb compared to the flood?
Just because I've had more fish on the ebb on that beach. Other marks I prefer the flood
What's that orange stuff your using for bait did you say cart?
It's crab
Yep, it's called Cart and is the red meat from female brown/eater crab that has been heavily salted. Can't really use it by its self unless you use PVA bags/mesh. Great in a cocktail, though
@@SlippyLimpets will keep an eye out for it but can't say I've ever seen it in local tackle shops. Always thought there must be some good attractant to add to baits, tried putting pierced cod liver oil capsules on but seemed to attract more crabs than anything
👏👏🎣🎣
Give it another month mate.
Aye, it can only get better as the weather cools
💜💜👍👍💜💜👍👍
Thanks Duncs 😊
It amazing how long the police did not take to come
