I was having fuel issues on my 92 Indy 500, couldn’t figure out why it would start with a blast of starter fluid and then die, I almost replaced the fuel pump until I came across your video. I never thought fuel line from the tank . Great video this was such an easy fix now I’m running great no more fuel issues. Thanks again.
Thanks for the video and information. This was very helpful! For those that are curious, the new fuel line and check valve/filter that go inside the fuel tank cost about $15 from a Polaris dealership. I also replaced the fuel line and fuel filter from the outside of the gas tank up to the fuel shut off switch for about $15. I found a comparable fuel filter in size and shape, in the boating section at a parts store.
Thank you, I'm pretty young and basically have little to no mechanical knowledge and have had this problem with my sled for a while, and this did the trick 😎
Sure as sht I took a look and fished out the disconnected hose from the tank! Thanks man, I would have never figured it out without your video! Surprised Polaris didn’t engineer the valve to be lower on the tank but whatever, parts ordered.
great video and info. was going to start w/ the fuel pump but now i will put some more fuel in the tank ( between 1/4 & 1/2 full now ) and see if fuel flows then fix the right issue.
lol late comment but couldn’t resist. Literally unscrewing the gas line off the tank would be much easier than filling it up with gas then to find out you need pickup line and draining all that gas….or sucking dirty gas to your carbs cause of no filter
can you do a video to show how remove the fuel tank for remove the old stuff in it including the brass filter thanks a lot for your video i just had to put more fuel in my tank to keep it running and wait for summer to repair it
Hey buddy can you tell me what those two hose lines are going up to the handle bar from the two carburetors. Does it fit in anywhere and what does it do
lol, was two hours plucking on my indy 340 today. would not suck any fuel. came looking for a fuel pump rebuild video and this im certain is whats wrong (works well with lots of gas always fucks up somewhere on long trips
Thank you so much. I have two mid to late 90's Polaris Indys which I will check immediately. Were you able to fish the lost section of tubing out of the inside of the fuel tank? Would there be some type of low profile clamp that you could attach the new section of hose to the strainer with?
had the hose problem on my 1975 Polaris electra 440 and I put in a shorter hose but I got iy to point down wards so its submerged in the gas but I still need a fuel pump and the rebuild kit I bought is the wrong size. is there any newer model fuel pumps that work with that model because a 75 part is hard to find
Awesome I'm having issues with my 95 indy special snowmobile ran it out of gas and not sure how to prime or know if the fuel pump is working thanks any advice I would appreciate
Great tip!!! That would really screw you up after riding 5 gallons one way and getting stuck! I just picked up a pair of 96 488s. I new to snowmobiles in general. I know these are good sleds from all that I have heard. I’m trying to read and watch as much as I can to learn about them. Is there any other common issues or maintenance items that are particular to this sled?
Thanks. I did a complete replacement of all the fuel lines from pick up line all the way to the carbs. I used PU hose that can take gas submersion over time. Cleaned pump, changed filter, cleaned carbs in ultra sonic cleaner, checked pulse line is clear but still get air in the fuel hoses. No idle. Will run if I prime the cylinders with gas and keep high rev.. I'm lost....
Would the symptom of my sled will turn on and run after I blow air into some of my hoses that seem to correlate to the fuel ? My sled will run, but if I turn it off, it won’t start till I blow air into the one or two tubes that just hang free near the fuel pump. Then it will run till it turns off then I usually have to do the same thing to start it.
Mine just bogged out and killed on me! I got it started thinking it blew up and rode it but same thing happened again... The carbs were cleaned and fresh fuel added I can't think of anything other than maybe a faulty fuel pump? Any ideas?
that’s actually what happened to my sled the other day.. my sled wasn’t running right at the lake,, an eventually stauled out on me,, couldn’t get it started again.. so i finally looked inside the tank an found out that fuel line was discounted inside of the tank..
So Awesome:-) I will do this / check it out if it works!!?! I will watch your vids first. Easy to do instructions. I'm positive I can do this. Most of these vids are for people who speak some other language (JK) but it truly is amazing how they make it such a hard deal! & of something so simple..:-):-):-)
Thank you for this video! Saved me a lot of time not looking into more complex things.
I was having this exact issue with a 93 Indy 488 I just picked up and wasn’t sure why it wasn’t running, very useful information!

This was super helpful! Finally figured out why my Indy 500 won't run once below half a tank.
You nailel it for me! Filled tank and runs fine 😎👍 now I know how to finish job too!
Just towed my buddies 10 miles out. Exact problem. Good Job! Great Video!
There is a small metal clamp on the hose ends . You can fish it out of the tank with a magnet .

A fantastic share. Thanks a ton
gotta love looking down the full cap and seeing the filter down at the bottom lol

Thanks! Just bought a 96 Indy and I had the same thing. All so is there a way to troubleshoot a fuel pump

How long was the new hose

Thanks me and my dad couldn’t figure it out
Could you tell me where the fuel sending unit is located on a 1996 polaris indy classic touring 500cc?

Great video and thank you for taking the time. What about on a 2004 Polaris cx600 Similar setup? I need to do mine and wondering how to get it out.
Specs on correct fuel line length from Polaris?
Thanks! Nice simple video.now I can fix mine
Is it the 488? Do you remember the specs for syncing the carbs?
OMG thank you so much bro, this saved my life😂
I replaced mine but those little lines keep filling up with fuel where do they go
That filter is actually a 1 way check valve as well

Omfg 😂 your the man I'm not even kidding I wish I could post a short video or a picture because literally it's the same issue
Thanks I needed to see this
Can you do a fuel pump change video
Lol! Had the exact same issue. Thanks!

No clamps?
Is there a way to tell if the oil pump is working i dont want to fryed the motor lol
How to prime the fuel and oil injection system on a 2002 polaris indy 600 liquid cooled snowmobile
What about the vacuum hoses from carb to air box. not sure how to reinstall them
98 indy 500
Having trouble starting starts but then seems like it runs out of gas starts right up with a little spray of gas
This helped. But mine needs more work apparently 🤦🏼♂️

i'm thinking that's what's wrong with mine I'm going to check it out
What about fuel pump
15" at least on length
or ya know you could look inside the tank and see if its hooked or not LOL
