  • In this video, I run through my process of turning a handled mug from one block of wood.
These lovely items are immensely practical but also super cool! And something that is only possible on a pole lathe!
I run through timber selection and marking out and then start on the turning.
I hope you learn and I hope you enjoy!

Hey Owen....I wish you had done the middle bit in slow motion for a few seconds to see what is going on..!! This must be the wizard bit eh dude..!! Might have to order one of your mugs to go with the bowl of yours I already have....top work 👍👍👍👌

Thanks! It's always hard to choose which bits of footage to fit in and how to present them. I hope you managed to get the idea regardless. 🙏

@@OwenThomaswoodcraft yeah I kinda get what's going on....you must have sharp tools as I assume the turning will be much slower during this section as you can't get the speed up..? Great work 👍👍👌😷

      Lovely proportions and skill.
I'm completely flummoxed by how on earth the handle doesn't smash into the tool !!?
      What's the technique here ?

Great video Owen. I saw a video of Jarrod making a mug, he axes out the extra as well.

Nice video as always. Would be interested in how your tools are situated for the cuts. Looked like sometimes you had it turned straight up and down for certain cuts.

Yes, the took is in different positions for different cuts and, as you say, sometimes it is upright. Its really hard to film the tool cuts, and I'm doing the best I can with the kit I have. I'm still experimenting though so hopefully it will get better 😁
