I like how Dex and Murdock have similar abandonment issues, but suffered different wounds. Dex lost his family before he could receive guidance from a proper role model whereas Matt was lucky enough to learn a thing or two before having everything taken away from him. Matt is probably feeling more pain because he has a solid idea of what he's missing. Dex on the other hand is empty, starting off with nothing to lose. He had sociopathic tendencies but needed a guiding compass to keep him in line , first the therapist and now Julie ,maybe even Fisk?..;)
I don't think he killed his parents. He was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. Which I have. Usually created caused because of a abandonment. And he suffered the biggest abandonment (from a child's point of view) People dying he doesn't understand that. So it' like the child in him is breaking out. He feels an intense anger and emotion towards someone dying, not because they're dying but because they're leaving him. The way it's portrayed in this is incredibly extreme. Bpd can thankfully be managed.
Ben Poindexter's dependency on his therapist Dr. Mercer's *strict code of living* to keep his regimented world from imploding legit reminded me of Dexter Morgan's relationship to his adoptive father Harry
